- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -15/+148now THAT'S emo
- muxaulo, on 09/30/2008, -28/+120That's bloody terrible.
- reyoo30309, on 09/30/2008, -9/+94Oh wow, never thought I might run into a real case of stigmata.
"Reported cases of stigmata take various forms. Many show some or all of the five Holy Wounds that were, according to the Bible, inflicted on Jesus during his crucifixion: wounds in the hands and feet, from nails, and in the side, from a lance. Some stigmatics display wounds to the forehead similar to those caused by the crown of thorns. Other reported forms include tears of blood or sweating blood"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stigmata
It's ironic how in her own country she is considered cursed but if she had been born in a Catholic nation she might be praised as some type of walking miracle.
. - MidnightRIder77, on 09/30/2008, -0/+82"Sometimes her condition is so bad she wakes up with her entire body covered in dried blood."
Dear god. That has to be hell to live through. I know I couldn't deal with having to wake up in the morning covered in my own dried blood, I'd go insane. - scoottie, on 09/30/2008, -12/+92dont all women bleed without being cut .....
- AmyVernon, on 09/30/2008, -1/+61The worst part of the story is that people in her village believe she's cursed and shout at her in the streets...
- kkeut, on 09/30/2008, -8/+58that joke was bloody terrible
- quomen, on 09/30/2008, -4/+49Where's the love? You both should put down your differences and coagulate.
- abajaj2280, on 09/30/2008, -5/+47You guys are douche bags, I feel really sorry for her.
- fluidfoundation, on 09/30/2008, -1/+34It's NOT LUPUS.
- iamichi, on 11/12/2008, -5/+36Heroes?
- prem444, on 09/30/2008, -2/+33Why is it ironic? Lack of scientific help can make someone desperate enough to become superstitious. Its their own daughter who is slowly bleeding to her slow death.. This circumstance can make a believer out of anyone.
- motang, on 09/30/2008, -1/+24Probably telling someone they are a moron or an idiot, or trying to get with Cuddy.
- Avaseal, on 09/30/2008, -2/+21No *****, Sherlock.
- skabyss, on 09/30/2008, -1/+18Way to shunt the hostility
- Alli3388, on 09/30/2008, -1/+15So is anyone going to help the kid get to England to see this specialist?? With all the wasted money in the world, one would think it would be just a LITTLE more common for kids with very rare diseases and conditions to be sponsored by hospitals, if not out of sympathy, then out of the benefit to medical research.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+14I blindly believe you Dr. Digg due to your carefully selected, medical-related avatar as well as your ability to use words I don't fully understand. Plus one.
- HarryRag, on 09/30/2008, -1/+14How is it irony? They're saying lack of help from doctors has made them desperate to try anything.
- HarryRag, on 09/30/2008, -2/+15And this: "One doctor even accused us of making it up. Why on earth would we do that?"
It's outrageous. A girl with a very rare disorder gets all kinds of *****.. for what? It's as if it were her fault. Some people make me ***** sick. - DrDigg, on 09/30/2008, -2/+15It sounds like she just needs better doctors. This may just be self/parent induced though. People with clotting disorders don't tend to bleed from their hairline or feet. Mucosal bleeding and significant bruising or petechia (spot hemorrhages) are much more common.
- superabe420, on 09/30/2008, -0/+13does she stop bleeding for 5 days every month?
- pak314, on 09/30/2008, -0/+12Its never lupus.
- aeoo, on 09/30/2008, -0/+12It's the same about all things. For example, a rainbow is considered to be a curse by ancient Chinese, a misalignment of energies, but is considered to be a good luck omen in other parts of the world.
- dsendecki, on 09/30/2008, -1/+12O! I was positive that joke would work, eh?
- upick, on 09/30/2008, -0/+11this is something out of a movie man... weird but real!
- jatin747, on 09/30/2008, -2/+12if you actually bother reading the article, it clearly states that it really hurts, and besides the physical pain, there is a huge aspect of mental trauma, just think what this little girl would be going through, besides that she is going through puberty which would make it even worse for her, just so many changes happening to her body...
- skabyss, on 09/30/2008, -2/+12Maybe from season 2
- digjam, on 09/30/2008, -1/+11Thats why these ppl live in the villages..
- Laminarcissus, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Why has it suddenly become super-fashionable to point out what is and isn't irony at every available opportunity?
I know that it's frequently used loosely or incorrectly, but there seems to be a new pedantic delight that people are taking in pointing it out. - DrDigg, on 09/30/2008, -1/+10Well I'm not a hematologist but I can tell you that you don't spontaneously bleed through the skin. You either form a petechia or bruise or you can spontaneously bleed through mucous membranes. But bleeding through the skin doesn't make any sense, you need a cut or weak point to bleed through. Maybe the article is just wrong, but my b.s. detector went up a little on this one. It could just be she has a severe bleeding disorder but can't get the right tests done because she is poor and in India.
- jatin747, on 09/30/2008, -10/+19dude, this girl is going through hell and all you jackasses can do is make fun of her? Rot in hell you jackass.
- NevaDieENT, on 09/30/2008, -0/+9Yea I had to shed a tear for her... you think you have it bad then you see stuff like this... Damnit Digg now I can't pity myself. Let's hope they can help her.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -0/+8Mmm, Olivia Wilde.
- DeskFlyer, on 09/30/2008, -4/+12Jesus Christ.
- ccxftw, on 09/30/2008, -2/+10I would probably end up killing myself. ***** anyone who makes jokes about this, it's terrible.
- yournamehere, on 09/30/2008, -2/+10that's not ironic, that's unfortunate. irony is when the opposite happens out of what you'd expect of it. for instance (from wikipedia):
"When John Hinckley attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan, all of his shots initially missed the President; however a bullet ricocheted off the bullet-proof windows of the Presidential limousine and struck Reagan in the chest. Thus, the windows made to protect the President from gunfire were partially responsible for his being shot"
...that is irony. - Sloi, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7Mmm, Cuddy.
- ryansimbalist, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7It's never Lupus.
- porkdanish, on 09/30/2008, -0/+7I see what you did there.
- juneof44, on 09/30/2008, -2/+8@modelchick1234: Your reading comprehension needs improving.
FTFA: "When my eyes bleed they go really red and sore. It also hurts when I wash it after bleeding." - TCKC2C, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7ALEJANDRO!
- o0joshua0o, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7The problem with defining irony that way is that you don't know what anyone else expects of anything at any given time. Since you can't tell them what they're expecting, you can't tell them what is or is not ironic. It's totally subjective.
llama. - aelias, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Our skin is pretty impervious to liquids, this is why we don't die of hydrotoxoplasmosis when we go swimming or take a bath.
I'm with Dr Digg on this. The paper was poorly translated, these people are lying, or this girl has a condition which defies logic and her skin should be falling off every time she moves. Or a combination of the three. - isbhod, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Her condition sounds very similar to Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiopathic_thrombocyt ... where a persons platelet count drops to dangerous levels. I had this when I was 14 years old and was covered in little red dots as blood was seeping up through my pores. I had a large bruise on my arm and wrist just form wearing a watch, and when I was hospitalized I was not allowed to walk around to prevent bruises on my feet and if i tripped I probably woudl have bleed to death. If this is what the girl has it woudl be very sever case. Luckily ITP is treatable with steroid, hopefully this girl can be treated as well.
- inactive, on 09/30/2008, -2/+8doesn't sound like they are visiting many doctors...
"We've been to temples, mosques, churches and sufi saints, but nothing has cured her."
This might be part of the problem. - JM0ney, on 09/30/2008, -4/+10As if being named Twinkle wasn't bad enough...
- Terasiel, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6Talk about turning a sarcastic comment into a Discovery channel special.
- DarkPrince11, on 09/30/2008, -0/+6If you bothered to pay attention to the entire article, you would've also noticed that they have been to multiple doctors in India, who have given her various diagnoses, one of which is deemed incurable. However, a doctor in England has found a new diagnosis for her, which has yet to be tested.
- Hetman, on 09/30/2008, -1/+7That is sad. But as people have mentioned before this does seem to resemble stigmata. And according to catholics Saint francis of Ascissi was the first person to experience stigmata. But they also claim that his body did not decompose and smelled of flowers for months following his death. So who really knows what the truth is. But it is really sad that they consider her cursed.
