- LilJimmyNordin, on 03/07/2009, -0/+23Actually, I have oral herpes (coldsores, since I was a little kid-- I see an actual coldsore about once every couple of years), but even oral herpes can be transferred to genitals in a number of ways under the right conditions. I've been lucky enough to avoid getting it downstairs, but there are tons of people out there who have regular, common oral coldsores and don't know how easy it is to spread the infection to other parts of their body.
I guess it's also worth mentioning that it's possible to be asymptomatic and spread it to people who then get full-blown infections. I dont claim to think this is in any way a fair or humane, quite barbaric actually but there are just too many ***** out there male and female that have stds and know and dont ***** tell people. Everyone has the right to know if the person they are about to screw can change their life in a very negative way. I'm sure someone else has a WAY better idea so when you digg me down please reply and lay out a better way. Who knows maybe someone will see it and tell someone else who tells another and so on and take that idea and run with it creating a better world for everyone. Doubtful, but one can hope cant they?
- swiftheart, on 03/07/2009, -1/+10Well the main problem with your idea is that, if people know that they face potential public disclosure over the disease they might have, then they won't get tested. (Which is perfectly reasonable...I certainly wouldn't get tested if that were the case.)
As it is, not enough people are getting tested. Marginal issues (like the inconvenience) put them off. Or they're scared to find out the results.
One solution that excites me came up in an article in Wired last year or so. A small card like device was being developed for testing a variety of contagious diseases in poor, rural areas. Just drop a little blood and the card splits the blood through a series of small channels and can run several dozen disease tests. Cheap, easy, fast and no special lab equipment needed. It's ideal for the third world.
A variant of it would be ideal for us as well. Imagine buying one at the drugstore for $10 that tested all the major STDs. Whip it out on your first date with someone new. By the time dessert comes, it'll indicate if you're (reasonably) clear, or if your companion needs to visit a doctor. - combatchuck, on 03/07/2009, -0/+7His name is Robert Paulson.

It's flesh to flesh contact just outside of the genital region which allows transmittance. Granted, you can usually see those if you look carefully, but I don't know too many guys that fully inspect the goods before jumping in.

I would suspect the vast majority is irresponsible. Studies would be difficult due to people not being honest. Anyone know of such a study?

You have to be a horrible person if you have a contagious STD, know about it, and don't inform your partner. Then, whoops, 1 year down the road you've spread your disease to ruin the lives of your partner and every subsequent partner he or she has had.

Aren't there similar devices used to stop premature ejaculation? It stops excessive "sensation" by stopping direct skin to skin contact. There's a simple latex cover that snaps around the phallus and covers the testicles.
