- ucdbunny, on 10/30/2008, -0/+11Thats good to know, this will probably help fill in the missing parts of the APP pathway which leads to Amyloid beta peptides which form filaments in neurons causing Alzheimers. Having the Apolipoprotein E4 allele is still the biggest risk factor but the pathway is still not understood. I suggest anybody who is concerned about getting Alzheimers or has it in the family go get screened. That's your daily science lesson for the day Digg, your welcome :)
- amecat, on 10/30/2008, -0/+9"Virtually all current research into therapies is based on the Alzheimer's genes that we already know about; so each new gene we find not only enhances our ability to predict and diagnose the disease, but also provides valuable new clues about biochemical events and pathways involved in the disease process."
They are getting closer! - ayeroxor, on 10/30/2008, -1/+7I will make a positive post so that I am barely relevant yet still able to revel in my earliness! We must cure this horrible affliction!
- encrypteduser, on 10/30/2008, -0/+6This disease scares the crap out of me. I have it on both sides of my family and my memory absolutely sucks. I constantly fear that I may develop it at an older age.
- Plastic3D, on 10/30/2008, -0/+4I'm checking the news weekly hoping to find medical advancements... my father is beginning to suffer from this horrible disease.
- jimfeet, on 10/30/2008, -0/+4My father and his father both suffered from and died of Alzheimer's. It destroys the person with it and people who have to care for that person. I'm old enough to be worried.
- inactive, on 10/30/2008, -1/+5I watched my mother revert to a helpless infant because of early onset Alzheimer's disease, she was diagnosed when she was 55 but the symptoms were present even earlier. It scares the crap out of me because I am very much my mother's daughter, not far from her age at diagnosis, and my memory is awful.
- wildest, on 10/31/2008, -0/+1Had the same genes orn for 4 days now
- caringdotcom, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0This is an unbelievable find that will hopefully lead to some type of treatment of this horrible disease! Hearing the stories from families dealing with Alzheimers on our site at http://www.caring.com has been difficult, and I pray that they find advanced treament in the future to help get rid of it for good.
