- MommaLu, on 12/03/2008, -1/+11I wish I had that gene, then diet pills would work like a charm.
- hbyrne, on 12/03/2008, -1/+8hey Icaz- prove it.
- netneutrality, on 12/04/2008, -1/+8So all you gotta do is tell people they have the placebo gene.
- SadMartigan, on 12/04/2008, -1/+6It creates receptor sites for midichlorians.
- penguinofspades, on 12/04/2008, -3/+7yeah, ***** science
- vsujohn2, on 12/04/2008, -4/+8Or you know, you could stop eating so much.
- skywake, on 12/04/2008, -2/+5Its not exactly the same thing. There is a difference between thinking you no longer have cancer and being cured from cancer. A patent given a placebo might stop complaining of symptoms but that's more because their mind convinces them that they no-longer have symptoms.
Its the same thing but in the opposite direction for those people that "fake" illness. Give them a wiki article and all of a sudden they are experiencing all of the symptoms on the list. - GeeksSpeakFont, on 12/03/2008, -1/+3that's really cool! i wonder if people with this gene get sick less easily than other people too.
- Foamed, on 12/04/2008, -1/+3Hey, cool, that's the scientific-project my father is working on.
They did it the research with alcohol not long ago and they discovered that everything was based upon anticipation. They served a set of people alcohol and a set of people a placebo drink. The funny thing is that the brain actually emitted the same chemicals/readings (from both parts). The brain actually got intoxicated because of the anticipation of drinking alcohol (even though it wasn't alcohol in it), and that's where the "placebo-gene" comes into play. - inactive, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2What I said, you ***** moron, is that by linking these genes to behavioral traits they are just trying to market them. Yes, these companies are trademarking these genes, genes that exist within your body are legally the property of some biotech company out there. One gene doesn't give you a proclivity for the color red, or liking the taste of sausage for instance. We are who we are as a direct result of how all of our genes intertwine with one another. Read a book next time you take a ***** on a stupid person you ignorant prick.
- Ne007, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I can see what u are saying, but the placebo effect does work for legit ailments and that can only be attributed to the power of the mind.
- mparker21311, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1Sociobiology... dip *****.
- vsujohn2, on 12/04/2008, -2/+3@ amk29j
Or you know, you could learn to detect sarcasm - mparker21311, on 12/04/2008, -0/+1I wonder if religious people have this gene? Hmmmm
- LongShlong, on 12/04/2008, -1/+2Is this the same gene that gives people the urge to prove that 'gullible' does in fact exist in the dictionary?
- davengineer, on 12/05/2008, -0/+1Where is my mind?
- kangy3213, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1Sugar gene? wtf
- avataros, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1"So you're telling me I don't have ED, doc?"

- chompysweat, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1I reckon this is accurate. Although I probably have the gene
- bgrah449, on 12/04/2008, -2/+2Haha, simple solutions to medical problems you don't understand are awesome.
- Casserole69, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1They call it a placebo
- Chainheart2, on 12/04/2008, -1/+1They would get sick just as often, but likely recover quicker.
- DyceFreak, on 12/04/2008, -3/+2yea, too bad you didn't call bull ***** when we discovered genes and called them a map to human behavior.
I have this gene, it makes me ***** rampantly on stupid people... I cant even control myself. - fredrockbluff, on 12/04/2008, -3/+2you mean the gullibility gene?
- DyceFreak, on 12/04/2008, -2/+1no... in fact all you said was,
"All of these discoveries linking genes to behavioral traits are *****. "
perhaps you should have said something more if you wanted to get an idea across...
you ***** moron... - laizzesfaire, on 12/04/2008, -1/+0Are they sure the placebo effect isn't responsible for their findings... oh wait.. thats what they found
- OMnicient, on 12/04/2008, -1/+0I would drink only water.
And smoke only dust bunnies. - DyceFreak, on 12/04/2008, -3/+1screw diet pills...

Got...
Bigger... - Ne007, on 12/04/2008, -4/+2The same people that believe in the placebo affect deny the ability of the mind to heal the body.
If the placebo affect works, then the mind has healed the body. - sodade, on 12/04/2008, -5/+2I wonder what the correlation with religiosity is.
- nicemen, on 12/04/2008, -3/+0Good information.

- AboveandBeyond, on 12/04/2008, -6/+2incidentally, the gene was also associated with lower IQ, gambling, impulsiveness and stupidity.
