- Mnementh2230, on 10/08/2009, -9/+371"could have been saved by basic medical care"
That sums it up right there. Homicide by negligence. - drinkthepill, on 10/08/2009, -15/+370Has it occurred to anyone, that perhaps the "law" in Philadelphia is unclear on how the good lord works? If God wanted the child to live he would have healed him. Clearly it was God's will that this child should die. Perhaps to be a solider in Heaven and fight in the war against Satan and his demons. Since it was God's will, no amount of Tylenol, Antibiotics, or secular medical science would have saved him. God would have found a way to take his life.
Or, perhaps theses "loving parents" cared more about sticking to their ridiculous superstitions, then they did the life of their child. Yeah, on second thought, that makes allot more sense. - copypastry, on 10/10/2009, -4/+282In West Philadelphia born and raised
praising jesus, is how my folks spent all their days
My parents lived their life according to an old story
While fluid built up in my system respiratory
I got one tiny cough but my folks didn't worry
They got on their knees and prayed in a hurry
"Fear not son, the Lord's on our side"
My pneumonia got worse and i ***** died - geelow, on 10/08/2009, -13/+272just a thought...if we can (as a nation) make illegal female circumcision why are we unable to outlaw 'faith healing'?
- SisyphusFragmnt, on 10/09/2009, -2/+231Parents who go to faith healers instead of doctors care more about -their own- salvation than the life of their children. These people disgust me and don't deserve the right to be parents.
- Propethic, on 10/10/2009, -12/+216"Because, on occasion, supernatural healing does take place."
NO - peestandingup, on 10/10/2009, -4/+171Stupid people + religion = bad things
- kingnova, on 10/09/2009, -8/+167Because the same Christians who claim they are being persecuted by our laws get protection under it.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 10/09/2009, -0/+148Poor kid was screwed on both nature and nurture.
- lydecker, on 10/09/2009, -5/+153Parents are nothing more than unelected human beings presiding over other human beings. It is inherently dangerous to chose your own faith over the wellbeing of another.
Parental rights end where another's rights begin. And that's what the government is supposed to step in to protect when they can. - Subduction, on 10/10/2009, -1/+145"Pray like it all depends on God and act like it all depends on you."
-- St. Augustine - alecadvent, on 10/10/2009, -4/+124Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day,
teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime,
teach a man religion and he will die praying for a fish. - toxicshok, on 10/10/2009, -4/+98When has faith healing worked? Looks like this kid should have turned to penicillin instead of jeebus.
- imakethenews, on 10/10/2009, -0/+80You know, you remind me of the man that lived by the river. He heard a radio report that the river was going to rush up and flood the town. And that all the residents should evacuate their homes. But the man said, 'I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me.' The waters rose up. A guy in a row boat came along and he shouted, 'Hey, hey you! You in there. The town is flooding. Let me take you to safety.' But the man shouted back, 'I'm religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me.' A helicopter was hovering overhead. And a guy with a megaphone shouted, 'Hey you, you down there. The town is flooding. Let me drop this ladder and I'll take you to safety.' But the man shouted back that he was religious, that he prayed, that God loved him and that God will take him to safety. Well... the man drowned. And standing at the gates of St. Peter, he demanded an audience with God. 'Lord,' he said, 'I'm a religious man, I pray. I thought you loved me. Why did this happen?' God said, 'I sent you a radio report, a helicopter, and a guy in a rowboat. What the hell are you doing here?'
-From The West Wing - NiftySwifty, on 10/10/2009, -3/+79Did you know you were crazy, or am I the first to point this out to you? Please, show me one documented case of "supernatural healing" taking place.
Also, sorry, parents who are ***** crazy like these don't deserve to be parents. The state has the right (
and should have) stripped them of their children and put them all in foster homes. A foster home may not be good, but it would have been far better than these wierdos. - Hetman, on 10/08/2009, -3/+79That is not true. Certian Christian sects cannot seek medical care. Who knows if this was the case in this article. It does happen though.
- ohplease, on 10/10/2009, -1/+69You're trolling, no one is this stupid and knows how to use the internet.
- Laminarcissus, on 10/10/2009, -0/+68During a terrible rainstorm a man is notified that his town will be be flooded and he needs to get out of the house. He says "No I don’t have to, God is going to save me."
Then the flood starts to rise and a sheriff comes along and tells him to get out. The man says "No, God is going to save me."
So, the floods continue to rise, and he climbs on top of the house. A boat comes along and he’s told to climb into the boat. He says "No, no , God is going to save me."
When he is up to his neck in water, a helicopter comes along and they lower the net to rescue him. The man says "No, no, God is going to save me!"
Finally, the man drowns and goes to heaven. When he gets to heaven he says to God, "Why didn't you save me?"
God says, "I sent the sheriff, I sent a boat, I sent a helicopter, what more did you want me to do?" - ylikone, on 10/10/2009, -1/+65"supernatural healing does take place"
Really? Has this ever really happened? Or just a bunch of hear-say and coincidence?
I was a pentecostal for 30+ years and never saw a real case of healing EVER... but sure many people claimed healings.. but were deluded by their own beliefs and anybody looking critically from the outside could see their follie. - Mejari, on 10/10/2009, -6/+69* + religion = bad things
The worst things in history have been smart people + religion - bringitontimx, on 10/10/2009, -0/+63internets
- TheAirLoom, on 10/10/2009, -12/+75Religion kills, as usual.
- MaTT2011, on 10/10/2009, -1/+63Homicide by STUPIDITY.
There, fixed it for yah. - alecadvent, on 10/10/2009, -0/+57i wish i could dig you like 100 more times.
- Gemfinder, on 10/10/2009, -4/+58On moral grounds, faith healers allowing their own to die isn't a whole lot different than Aztec priests ripping peoples' hearts out. One is quiet and agonizing, one is violent and dramatic. But in the end, you still have a person dead for someone else's religious beliefs.
I'm sorry, but this was nothing less than human sacrifice. - Born2Rune, on 10/10/2009, -0/+53best comment today.
- iDiggYa, on 10/09/2009, -1/+54The irony!
- WhiskeyWrites, on 10/09/2009, -0/+52FTA: "They are members of the First Century Gospel Church, in the Northeast, which believes that the sick can be healed through prayer rather than by medicine, according to statements that the couple gave homicide detectives two days after their son's death."
The statements now that they would have gotten their child medical treatment may be just a defense story now to avoid prosecution, possibly knowing from recent cases that religious faith healing or "alternate" medicine usage may still lead to a conviction. - gankige, on 10/09/2009, -7/+59"God will protect our child... oops."
God and a Z-pack would have worked better. - StuartGibson, on 10/10/2009, -15/+66Why would you want part of your dick cut off?
How about we outlaw childhood circumcision and, when you're legally an adult, you can decide if you want someone to hack the end off your *****? - RiperSnifle, on 10/10/2009, -2/+52Wow, I haven't been on digg for a while and kinda forgot just how ***** crazy people can actually be.
- localzuk, on 10/10/2009, -3/+52Never understood this idea of faith healing? Surely if you believe in God being all powerful, then you realise that he gave us the power to heal ourselves and each other - via medicines.
- Garmonbozzia, on 10/10/2009, -17/+66That's not much of an accomplishment. We've outlawed female circumcision but boys are still getting hacked apart. Come back when everyone is safe....
- Mnementh2230, on 10/09/2009, -1/+49Same difference in my book. Felony disregard with an end result of death = homicide, to me.
- stoneage7, on 10/10/2009, -0/+47consider yourself lucky then
- captininsanity, on 10/10/2009, -1/+45If there's a easy known cure, but you demand it to be through a miracle anyway, isn't that testing God. He gave them several different options, but they demanded a miracle to make themselves feel more holy...
- Sexercise, on 10/10/2009, -0/+44Faith has no place when it comes to the well being of your child.
***** bacterial pneumonia? Come on, there's no way you mistook pneumonia for a cold.

Take your kid to the hospital. Dicks. - mike215, on 10/10/2009, -2/+46"Finally, governments have killed more people and done more damage to civilization in one year than all faith-healing families have in the history of religion."
you cant be serious - Gndoab, on 10/10/2009, -0/+42obviously. they already let their kid die.
- LilJimmyNordin, on 10/10/2009, -13/+55While we're at it, let's cut off our feet to protect against athlete's foot.
Circumcision is savagery, no matter which gender it's performed on. - pagemap, on 10/10/2009, -1/+43DavidNiven you are a stupid and ignorant christian. Why not go off and read your bible instead of commenting on things of which you know nothing.
- tommymcgimsey, on 10/10/2009, -0/+41Digg army assemble! Digg this man up!
- sgvprelude, on 10/09/2009, -2/+41They kept praying for help wondering when it'll come, all the while wondering why shows like House, Grey Anatomy, ER were on every channel.
- AngryDeuce, on 10/08/2009, -4/+42Good.
- ParticleMan420, on 10/10/2009, -1/+39just when i think you cant say anything stupider than you already have, you write something else. You're are a disgusting and ignorant person. And how did that reporting of me work out for you?
- kingnova, on 10/09/2009, -2/+40Did you even read the article? They prayed over him rather than taking him to the doctor.
- SOS84, on 10/10/2009, -2/+38Can you say life in prison?
If you can get someone to believe in an absurdity, don't be shocked when they commit an atrocity. - Sexercise, on 10/10/2009, -11/+47Circumcision of any kind is ***** up.
Find me one good reason to have it done, and I'll get right on mentioning that to mother nature for us to NOT grow foreskin anymore. - WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2009, -6/+41Flying Spaghetti Monster clearly wished the child dead; probably a budding anti-christ. Do not question the workings of His Noodly Appendage - it works in mysterious ways, beyond our primitive understanding. FSM laughs maniacally in the face of so-called modern medicine.
