"Faith-Healing" Leads to another Teen Death
cnn.com — A teenager from a faith-healing family died from an illness that could have been easily treated, just a few months after a toddler cousin of his died in a case that has led to criminal charges. God could not be reached for comment.

- gehmflor, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1This is a VERY sad story. I do believe in God, but only treating with prayer is just irresponsible. My son nearly died from what sounds like the same or similar condition, Post Urethral Valves, as a 3 week old. He did have a very simple surgury to fix it when he was two months old. As human beings we live in a world in which we are free to make our own choices, which means we are free to hurt eachother as well as do good to eachother. I'm sure those parents believed they were making the best choice, but I'm afraid too many churches are teaching people that they can use God like some kind of genie. "God I want a car, make it red please. Oh, and throw in a check for the fuel while you're at it, and please heal my son, too. " That's probably not the way the parents felt, but I have heard preachers tell people to pray for the car of their dreams. God is good, but not tame!
- lisaawesome, on 06/21/2008, -0/+2I've also seen parents pray with their children for good grades. I totally agree with you that people treat prayer as though they are giving commands to a dog. It's bizarre to watch.
- rzamrycki, on 06/20/2008, -0/+3The worst part is that the brainwashing, negligent parents will go free because the Oregon law allows minors 14 and older to decide for themselves whether to accept medical treatment.
