- galv0, on 08/20/2008, -10/+42I ***** love cigarettes.
- wm2010russ, on 08/20/2008, -2/+21they may not smoke 300 a day, but they probably smoke a pack a day IN ADDITION to the hundreds of toxins theyre being exposed to by just living.
- tehcatt, on 08/20/2008, -2/+18yeah but most smokers dont smoke 300 ciggarets a day!
- DavidonDigg, on 08/19/2008, -4/+17yeah but one ciggaret is way less than most smokers I know smoke. Mind you I know there is a problem with pollution.
always looking for somebody to chat with - digitalpencil, on 08/20/2008, -0/+12what are you, a tree?
- tito13kfm, on 08/20/2008, -0/+11Oooh the asphyxiation...
- neurobox, on 08/19/2008, -1/+12Chemtrail proponents are a high-fivin'
- Static88, on 08/20/2008, -1/+11Smoke!
- skipthefrog, on 08/20/2008, -3/+12Radicals, whether chemical or political, are always a problem for society.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 08/20/2008, -1/+9I'm going to live forever or die trying
- SomeDrunk, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7At least you'll have a filter.
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+7The real news here is the discovery of scientists in Louisiana.
- lebrad, on 08/20/2008, -5/+11I wonder if Philip Morris funded the study.
- freezerburn666, on 08/20/2008, -1/+7lol chemtrail
- longbow486, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6Are You Smoking Yet?!
- Tyrghast, on 08/20/2008, -9/+15Really? Are you that retarded? You do know that there is no evidence that links second hand smoke to any sickness? ***** people who pushed the anti-smoking legislation without knowing the facts.
- benologist, on 08/20/2008, -0/+6We're twice as good at it.
Losers. - NecroSexy, on 08/20/2008, -2/+8So do the cigarette companies.
- seandfeeney, on 08/20/2008, -4/+10Hmmm... a Decrease in smoking means a Decrease in lung cancer and this article is going to say that everyday pollutions are as bad for you?... burried. inaccurate. This also greatly depends on where you live and how you live...
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 08/20/2008, -4/+9Give me a break. What's so tough about inhaling carcinogens all day? Get over it. Killing yourself slowly doesn't make you cool anymore than calling for better air standards in cities makes you a "sissy-wristed bitch."
Smoking smells like ***** and affects my health. You better believe I'm complaining about it. I'd complain if you didn't shower and just smelled like ***** naturally too, and that doesn't even increase my risk of lung cancer. - bdiggitty, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6I think the point is that there was so much propaganda and fear mongering thrown around against second hand smoke that it would cause people just seeing someone smoking in a public place to start coughing uncontrollably. So much legislation was passed based upon this period of hysteria. Those same people hopping into their SUV's on their way home. All our bars and restaurants are smoke free now. I wonder how long this will take to become public knowledge, and when people will start uncontrollably coughing every time an SUV goes by. Haha. I just find it funny.
- BoneheadFarker, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5***** you. In the ass. With a rabid weasel.
- RobotBuddha, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6"only I get to choose how I die. "
And I'm betting this was an informed choice after visiting several people with lung cancer to find out what dying from it's like? Don't fool yourself, you smoke because you're a drug addict. There's no shame in it. - coyote1284, on 08/20/2008, -0/+5Do you have some sort of American English to British English filter installed? If so, that's awesome and I want one!
- ToxNub, on 08/20/2008, -6/+11Coffee. Plastic. Cars. Fats. Smoking. Sunlight.... It will all kill you. Life is dangerous. The best solution is to quit being so afraid to die.
- RobotBuddha, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5It's not so much if you die, but how you die. I don't so much mind dying if I've lived most of my life healthy. I do mind if I wound up old before my time, hacking and coughing, while smelling like *****.
- rbk303, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4All mark this hallowed day when logic and truth prevailed.
- iliketowin, on 08/20/2008, -5/+9Can we ban everyone from going outside now?
- DontThinkSo, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4Dyslexia switched the second and third words.
- kaelyiesta, on 08/20/2008, -0/+4The article claims many of the harmful elements of cigarette smoke "usually last for about a second and then disappear". So, unless the remaining harmful things in cigarette smoke match the levels of these "persistent free radicals", I'd rather be near a smoker than heavy traffic.
- pjp500, on 08/20/2008, -4/+8It didn't take a genius to work this out, cities like New York and LA pump out MILLIONS of tons of particulate matter every year. So that health conscious LA types drive their mega polluting cancer creating cars to restaurant where they complain if anyone smokes a cigarette that produces micro grams of pollution...DUH..
- zacbro, on 08/20/2008, -3/+7Hmm, guess I'll take up smoking.
- galv0, on 08/20/2008, -2/+6The guy standing next to me can stand somewhere else.
- Tyrghast, on 08/20/2008, -5/+9Damian, all the organizations who claim second hand smoke is harmful are working off statistics that also say if you've eaten a carrot at some point in your life, you will die. There is no direct correlation between second hand smoke and cancer. The living proof are bartenders in bars where you can smoke: they rarely get cancer or die of any lung related condition.
The proof for second hand smoke is non-existent. It is nothing but faulty science twisted in to lies. You probably think sex is bad and soda's are okay for you. - leerayIG88, on 08/20/2008, -3/+6yeah...cigarettes are bad. that's why we need to start smoking Cuban cigars.
- S201, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3Do you really think Digg users are that stupid?
Try Myspace. - gu0d, on 08/20/2008, -2/+5I guess that city in China with a pollution value of 3 packs a day isn't so bad after all.
- skinjester, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4and likewise, so afraid to live...
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4beat me to it
- RobotBuddha, on 08/20/2008, -0/+3The one cigarette people are both funny and depressing. I used to date a girl who did that, having gone from one a week. She swore it was just a choice, and that she was smarter than the normal smokers she always looked down on. Pregnant and up to a pack a day now, and still insisting that she could go back to one a week if she wanted.
- Tyfud, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4"Louisiana scientists have discovered ..."
Wait, what? Well there's the problem. - sakipooh, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4This all depends where you live. I spent a day in London (uk) not (Ontario) and when I blew my nose all this black ***** came out. I then understood why so many pedestrians were wearing masks.
- bagelmaster, on 08/20/2008, -6/+9Assuming that second hand smoke causes cancer (over long periods of time) then this still doesn't justify not allowing people to smoke in bars and restaurants. You aren't going to die just because a person was smoking 10 feet away from you for 10 minutes of one day. Quit ***** bitching.
- hydroplane, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4Time to find a new planet this one is screwed.
- ChromaVita, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Actually that makes sense. Would you like somebody if you knew that they planned to set you on fire?
- krismanx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Wow!!!!!!! No way!!!!!11
Thanks moneypro, you're a life saver. - kidjay, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3All of the things that our parents said were good for us are killing us. Sun, milk, red meat... college
- inactive, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2I'll file this under things that will probably kill me and that I can do absolutely nothing about.
- bubbadoo989, on 08/20/2008, -4/+6Boy, popsci.com is like junksci.com... the missing component from air pollution that makes smoking so bad is the heat that is concentrated in the lungs.... You know, you're inhaling a burning cigarette, which is a heat source. The heat is a major inflammatory, along with all of the other bad things in cigarette smoke. Yes, air pollution is very bad for you, but smoking is still worse.
