I guess we just need to roll over and die. - StigNordas, on 08/29/2008, -1/+23"Brushing Too Hard:" Never knew this was an issue until recently. I just got a toothbrush that automatically stops pulsating when you press too hard (oral b something-or-other). Its cool, but it almost feels like I'm brushing too lightly now.
- TheBenSimpson, on 08/29/2008, -9/+30nom nom nom
- BillDoE, on 08/30/2008, -3/+23Intelligent design at work. Teeth that rot from food.
- spencen66, on 08/30/2008, -0/+18solution- don't eat anything, you'll die but have perfect teeth
- sammybond455, on 08/29/2008, -1/+14And I thought oranges were good for you.
- MTessa, on 08/29/2008, -1/+14My dentist said pasta was a big deal too. Same reason the article said other carbs were involved. They turn to sugar more quickly when they are being broken down. Mmmm. Meat ;)
- TalSiach, on 08/30/2008, -2/+14there is nothing like some Crackers with cold orange juice with ice! Well I guess something need to be change asap.......
- aaronlidman, on 08/30/2008, -0/+11I hope you're not eating *****...
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -3/+13My teeth are screwed, can't say I really care much.
- mattearle, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9What about taking speed or ecstasy and grinding your teeth down? They forgot to mention that. Geez.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -0/+9That was hilarious. You guys are taking this too seriously.
- Asianwaste, on 08/30/2008, -0/+8Basically everything but meat and milk.... so if you want healthy teeth, eat and drink bovine today.
- DoogieHowitzer, on 08/30/2008, -2/+10what, so I'm not supposed to eat kitkats anymore?.... Gimme a break....
- Dystisis, on 08/30/2008, -2/+9I'd bet 80% of all teeth related stuff has to do with genes as opposed to what you eat. I eat like a ***** and my teeth have 0 "cavities" and I've never had any problems. I brush once a day (most of the time).
- warp25, on 08/30/2008, -0/+7That just means you were brushing too hard before :) At least this way you're saving your gums from being worn away.
- batmanz, on 08/30/2008, -0/+7They pretty much just listed my diet.
I'm screwed. - bigteebo, on 08/30/2008, -0/+6You can't brush too often? Jeesh. We're screwed either way.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -1/+7Johan Marcus Guy,
I love trolls. They really get me going.
Do you think you could send me some naked pics?
Your biggest fan,
-FattyMcgee311 - JoeDiggsIt, on 08/30/2008, -0/+5I was about to say, just every damn thing I love here. But funny enough I eat ice all the time, eat limes like you may eat oranges and also eat the rest moderately. Yet I have never had a cavity, good luck I guess...
- Haoie, on 08/30/2008, -1/+6Try rinsing out your mouth with water after eating a meal. That way food particles won't get stuck and stagnate.
- skinrock, on 08/30/2008, -2/+7You're no doctor? Really? Because you once said you used to be: http://digg.com/health/5_mistakes_that_will_land_y ...
(if you're wondering how I found that, I just had to look through his comments after the one he made in the 10 funniest movie clips post) - santaliqueur, on 08/30/2008, -2/+7Funny, you mention in your comments that you used to be a doctor. Looking at your comments, I'm not sure if you are an enormous idiot, or an annoying "former doctor" who drives a "Dodge Neon Sports Package".
Either way, you are ***** weird. - MouseworksPC, on 08/30/2008, -2/+6I'm 36, never had a cavity in my life, and no other dental issues. I eat all this stuff! Some people have teeth that are more prone to decay than average. Maybe this article pertains to them. But it doesn't alarm me.
- santaliqueur, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5You will when your neglect starts causing serious pain.
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5Heh, I told my girlfriend that a new study revealed that semen is good for preventing tooth decay. So far so good. ;)
- KSUdesigner, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4My guess is you're young. I had the same viewpoint when I was your age. I always brushed twice a day, but I never went to the dentist because I didn't care, especially because there was no dental insurance to help pay the costs. About 6 months ago I got a horrible toothache and it lasted for days. That's when I decided that I should finally go to the dentist. It had been 10 years since I was last at a dentist. I've now been to the dentist about 10 times in the past 6 months and I not only have zero pain but also feel a lot better about my overall well-being. Thankfully I landed a new job just before with some excellent benefits. I have been working on changing the things I eat so I do not have to go through that experience ever again. Trust me, you do not want to go through the pain of having an abscessed wisdom tooth, or any other tooth really. You may not be in pain now, but if you let your teeth go too long then you will be in pain, and it is ***** excruciating.
- Rocco03, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4Or eat and drink whatever you want and be happy.
You wont need your teeth when you are dead. - MLisa, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4Smoking is also really bad for your teeth. It causes bone loss (like the jaw bone) and gum disease. Result is that your teeth could fall out earlier than normal, even with proper brushing.
- lisaawesome, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4I think it is largely genetics. I have always taken good care of my teeth but have had more cavities than I can count and I had my first root canal a couple years ago. My mom and sister have almost identical problems. The same issues can be seen in our extended family as well. I wish I had my friend's teeth genes. Bitch has had one cavity her whole life. My dentist could buy a vacation home with all the money I've spent there. I wish I was rich and could get a nice set of fake teeth and not have all these problems. Going to the dentist is just depressing for me at least until I get the laughing gas.
- bluesnowmonkey, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5Milk isn't very natural, though. It's not like our hunter-gather ancestors had dairy cattle. The human body is designed for human milk, and only as an infant. It's only a recent genetic adaptation that allows adults to drink it, and it's still not ideal nourishment.
That said, I drink plenty of milk myself. Just playing devil's advocate. You can go a long way down that road toward a "natural" diet. - borez, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5Fluoride in water:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_fluorosis
Now let them tell you it's good for you. - Sneezyx, on 08/30/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I remember my early 30s; my teeth were fine! No need to take care of them. Of course, it was right after that that everything fell to *****, and I've experienced more or less constant pain from them ever since (not to mention countless expensive root canals and crowns). But hey; you'll probably be okay!
- inactive, on 08/30/2008, -1/+5some of it is definitely genetic, highly doubt it's near 80%
- zonk3r, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3My father in law is a dentist. He says you can basically eat whatever you want but you have to make sure you brush well. If you take care of your teeth you don't have to worry too much about what you eat (other than getting fat). The biggest problem item is sweetened drinks (soda, juice, sweet teas) because many people drink them all day long and bath their teeth in sugar water.
- tkotam, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3Wow.. Looks like there is an advantage of living in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (for all of you who don't know what the hell I'm talking DPRK = North Korea). I don't see tree barks and "Hunger-Delaying Noodles" on the list...
- LilJimmyNordin, on 08/30/2008, -1/+4Blah blah blah, don't eat anything. ***** off, Divine Caroline. You're a big fat killjoy.
- diceau, on 08/30/2008, -3/+6Yeah our current society has extremely poor foods for teeth. Since my previous $1,100 dental bill, I've become sick of having holes in my teeth and my diet now does not include any processed sugar or starchy foods:
No breads
No cereals
Just water and milk to drink
No citric acid
No lollies, cakes, biscuits or ice creams etc
List goes on, and believe it or not, I still eat a lot but my shopping bill is down by 50%, feel great, no pimples (only sugar gives me pimples, good way of knowing what not to eat), and all is good.
Once you've gone without sugar for a few weeks, you start to feel sickened by the thought of eating it ... I guess you realize just how bad it really is and how bad it makes you feel, so you no longer want it.
The general rule is: live as naturally as possible and you won't have health complications later. I like peace of mind more than I like pie. - lisaawesome, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3My dentist says all of that. Maybe you need to go to a better dentist.
- Cowboy1015, on 08/30/2008, -3/+6this is really becoming annoying
- jguy584, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3I remember when I was younger and my mom would take my sister and I to the dentist. I was always real lax on brushing/flossing/mouth-wash etc., while my sister would do all three everyday morning and night.
I would always walk out with no cavities while my sister would have 1 or 2. Maybe she brushed too hard, or maybe it just comes down to genes. - inactive, on 08/30/2008, -1/+4And you payed a dentist to stop the pain!? Son, honestly when the ***** hits the fan there's gonna be no DOCTOR! We gotta fend for ourselves so you better start learning how to be your own doctor, lawyer, bodyguard, mechanic, soldier and kung fu fighter among other things.
You could have bought a wrench at Home Depot and removed that tooth of yours yourself. You don't gotta pay a fricking dentist! This is the 21st century for the love of God we should be able to do all this. What do they teach you at school young boy? To be a a slave of consumerism? To be a materialist no-can-do because I don't have the tools wimp? C'mon!! Are you American or what!?
Look son. Here in America what we want we do ourselves. War on Terror!? Send the Marines. The Moon!? Send the american made rocket. Saddam Hussein being a pain in the ass!? Execute him. Japanese attacked our Pearl Harbor. Nuke em. See son? Around here on the mighty United States of America we do stuff our way ourselves and if other countries don't like it we'll punish them. Militarily if we have to.
In conclusion, next time you have a toothache... Go buy a wrench at Home Depot. I got stocks there. - lisaawesome, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3lol that was a good one
- falser, on 08/31/2008, -0/+3The common belief that cow milk is healthy and important for humans is an expertly executed scam by the dairy industry.
There is nothing in milk that we don't get from other food sources. Milk is mostly made of water, saturated fat, and lactose . Now imagine taking out the water. Milk isn't even a great supply of calcium - foods like beets and green beans are better and more healthy for you. And too much milk can actually be harmful to you.
Don't take my word for it, read up on it! - inactive, on 08/30/2008, -0/+3* The term girlfriend was simply used to complete the joke. I don't have a girlfriend IRL.
- 45441, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2Teeth are naturally prone to either plaque or decay (under acidic or overly acidic).
Basically, you're either going to have problems with plaque or problems with cavities. - leftysrevenge, on 08/30/2008, -0/+2Jinx.
