- Hetman, on 02/12/2009, -5/+91Where is my e-joint that is legal?
- fluidmatt, on 02/12/2009, -11/+68While I do like the way you can smoke these in public and "stick it to the man", there is something horribly desperate and sad about having to replace real fags with these... a bit like a really pretentious version of those nicorette inhilators
If I wanted to smoke I think I'd just rather go outside - thirdeyeopen, on 02/13/2009, -1/+50Just when I thought putting a lower case 'e' in front of things had gone out of style.
- atonalpanic, on 02/13/2009, -5/+35dugg for fags
- yacinebouatrous, on 02/12/2009, -9/+29nah, there's nothing better than to feel the real pleasure of a cigarette, what next? an electronic girlfriend?
- sykotik, on 02/13/2009, -3/+23Agreed! To be honest, I quite enjoy the quiet moment of stepping out and having a smoke. I don't have to talk to anyone, if it's at night, I can look up and marvel at a starry sky, or a full moon. Or just be alone with my thoughts, no matter the time or environment.
I'm curious though, why do they need to have the "smoke?" Why not just the nicotine, or an optional model without the "smoke" effect? - shallabal316, on 02/13/2009, -1/+20I honestly dont see where the danger is, you're inhaling nicotine and a non-toxic chemical. You get a buzz. There is no burning paper/tar/etc. Its not even really "smoking." Its....steaming..?
- cmcagle, on 02/13/2009, -0/+18Yes, let's make tobacco illegal; I'm sure everything would work out fine, kinda like when we made alcohol illegal.
Oh wait, that created a huge, wildly profitable black market upon which organized crime thrived, eventually leading to the repeal of Prohibition.
Maybe you "there-ought-to-be-a-law" types should stop and actually think about things before you go around banning every potentially harmful substance on the planet. - CATSCEO2, on 02/13/2009, -0/+17You must be thinking of another chemical, the MSDS says its non-toxic when it comes to inhalation: http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/p6928.htm
- Garlik, on 02/13/2009, -0/+17It's only a part-time thing now :(
- deathfix, on 02/13/2009, -1/+16Read the article. Unlike real cigarettes, this device is allowed in public places.
- mr_ziy, on 02/13/2009, -0/+13The small i is the new e
- shadowblade989, on 02/13/2009, -0/+12All that would do is end up imprisoning EVEN MORE people, in addition to all the drug folks.
- FurtThePirate, on 02/13/2009, -0/+11I've been around them. Even though the smoke is minimal there is still a small amount and it does have a scent. You'll most likely be asked to stop.
- ReeferChiefer42, on 02/13/2009, -5/+15Chill the ***** out and take another hit, asshat.
- jsp123, on 02/13/2009, -0/+10So I suppose fog machines should also be banned from public?
- riverfr0zen, on 02/13/2009, -0/+10I guess if one was 12 one may want to 'stick it to the man' by smoking an e-fag (!) in public. But for real smokers, it's quite a decent alternative to smoking real ones. I got one a couple of days back, having become sick of pretty much every aspect of smoking (cost, after-smell, lungs crapping out), but finding it really hard to quit (tried pretty much everything else). It replicates all the aspects of smoking pretty well (obviously it isn't *exactly* the same) -- the oral/hand fixation, the tobacco flavor, the nicotine delivery. The inhaling and releasing of 'smoke' (not really smoke -- it's vapor).
@sykotik: Well, there's nothing stopping you from stepping out with one of these. The 'smoke' is vapor discharged from a vaporizer, which aids in the nicotine delivery. I guess it doesn't have to really look that smoky, but I they obviously add the propylene-glycol to reproduce the 'smoking experience'. If you don't really need that kind of simulation and just need nicotine, just use a patch. - jmones, on 02/13/2009, -0/+9For an addict who cant quit it sounds like a safer alternative.
- merreborn, on 02/13/2009, -1/+10No, you were right, it did. These guys just missed the memo.
- screensnot, on 02/13/2009, -1/+10I would buy one of these just so I can fire it up on a plane.
I'll have to wait a bit, because I know the first guy to try it will end up zip-tied and face down on the floor for the rest of the flight. Passengers and flight attendants on airplanes these days are easily excited. - breakneckridge, on 02/13/2009, -0/+9RTFA! It's not smoke, it's a non-combustion mist.
- worldstoaster, on 02/13/2009, -1/+9if one is healthier most certainly.
- Infidelcastr0, on 02/13/2009, -3/+11It's sad that these are necessary but awesome that they exist.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -2/+10They're called vaporizers.
- JosephStalin, on 02/13/2009, -0/+8Ah, yes, prohibition. That sure works well.
- 5kw3r1, on 02/13/2009, -0/+8the "smoke" you refer to is actually liquid vapor (water). Real smoke is the fine mist of solid particulates produced by the act of combustion. So, no, eCigs do not burn, nor do they "smoke".
- Humdain, on 02/13/2009, -0/+8Nicotine is only bad for you in the sense that it is pretty addictive. You are not getting the toxic chemicals you get from tobacco combustion (the tar, benzene, etc.), you are only getting the nicotine.
Caffeine is also an addictive drug and a stimulant. Is it just as bad as e-cigarettes?
IMO No, but it also depends on your perception of drugs in general. - yocouchdigga, on 02/13/2009, -1/+8sign me up.
: ( - LordRedSnake, on 02/13/2009, -0/+7I don't know about you but the candy cigarettes I had as a kid weren't chocolate. They were just some hard stick of sugar-based substance with one tip colored red.
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -4/+11Well, it's always good to have an alternative(specially a less hazardous ones)
- AntP1, on 02/13/2009, -0/+6so kids can buy them and look cool, duh
- Garlik, on 02/13/2009, -11/+17Dane Cook: a safe substitute for comedy?
No... he sucks. - Murdats, on 02/13/2009, -0/+6even if you were to smoke this constantly I still don't think you would reach what he means by moderate.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -4/+9Why don't we just outlaw everything thats not healthy? Ya know, protect the people from themselves, it's the Californian way!
- Rain12913, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5No kidding, I own a Volcano. I'm talking about a handheld vape the size of a cigarette (and a quality convection one, not some fake-vape crap), did you read the article?
- jgoodstein, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5First off nicotine alone has similar addict properties of caffiene. My wife is switching to them, my house doesn't stink, my kids don't get second hand smoke, and i get to investigate a new gadget, its a win for everyone
- loveddevol, on 02/13/2009, -1/+6flesh light is fine to
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -1/+6As well as exhaling in cold weather.
- Walcherina, on 02/13/2009, -4/+9Kinda reminds me of those fake cigarettes kids would "smoke" in like 7th grade, I think they were some sort of candy.
- vilago, on 02/13/2009, -1/+6you could just warn them beforehand. just tell the steward(ess) that you have one and it's not a real cigarette and you should be ok. but the real payoff is the reaction from all the passengers...
- serif69, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5evidently everyone else endlessly enlists extra es
- LordMaude, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5Although addiction-free would be the best. Having an addiction that doesn't cause cancer is much more preferable than one that does.
- thedogfatherx, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5It's about trying to quit the real cigarettes. I think you missed the point.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -0/+5There where about 3 varieties. Chocolate, bubblegum and candy sticks. The suckiest were the candy sticks (which went by names like "Popeye Cigarettes"). The bubblegum ones where the best because they had a layer of powder between the gum and the paper wrapping, so when you blew on them it would look like smoke was coming out.
- Jimbob200, on 02/13/2009, -5/+9"...Then I even tried to talk her into giving me the *****' Dutch Rudder; shot me down on that one too."
"And the Dutch Rudder is...."
"You don't know what the Dutch Rudder...? Alright look, you grab your dick, and then you have someone else work your arm. Lemme show ya...you're grabbin my arm...I'm grabbin my dick, you're grabbin' my arm, now work it...work my arm...see that *****...work it up and down...see it's like someone else is jerkin' you off." - thedogfatherx, on 02/13/2009, -1/+5Yes. Your not inhaling the thousands of other harmful chemicals.
- 5kw3r1, on 02/13/2009, -0/+4Having worked in special effects for theatres for 8 years, companies of high quality fog fluid like ROSCO and LeMatire put additives into the PG to create a thick dense fog. Others allow the fog to remain low lying under the high heat of stage lights. Otherswise PG is fairly safe in moderate quantities when inhaled.
- Amadeus2490, on 02/13/2009, -3/+7I want digital toilet paper.
- ptsuk, on 02/13/2009, -0/+3i think the key thing here is "moderate". you know damn well people will be "smoking" these up just like normal cig and go through "packs" a day. I don't think i would term that as a "moderate" quantity.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -0/+3That's a pretty funny question. I bet you could use these "e-cigarettes" with some sort of hash.
