yawn - xack10, on 05/21/2009, -2/+37"after finding that patients who drank between two and 10 litres a day developed the condition. "
That means you need to drink 8 cans a day. - inactive, on 05/22/2009, -0/+32Excesive amounts of everything can kill you.
- notyourbroom, on 05/22/2009, -4/+31Causes paralysis AND doctors? Let's see amyotrophic lateral sclerosis try THAT trick.
- realpolitik, on 05/22/2009, -1/+27"...in which levels of potassium in the blood fall..."
So eat a banana. Problem solved. - LonelyTylenoL, on 05/22/2009, -0/+21Even excessive amounts of nothing can kill you.
- PacoLugi, on 05/22/2009, -1/+19Large amounts of water can kill you too.

- tsaxer, on 05/22/2009, -1/+17"Drinking large amounts of cola can cause paralysis, doctors"...
So, large amounts of cola causes doctors? Heck of a lot cheaper than med school. - SEANWOOKIE, on 05/22/2009, -0/+15This is nothing. Back in highschool I used to drink 100 cans of cola per week. Right up to my third heart attack.
- Treshnell, on 05/22/2009, -0/+15Don't forget about the cancer you'll get from reusing those plastic bottles!
- Spyder810, on 05/22/2009, -0/+11Small amounts of water can kill you too.
- samard2002, on 05/22/2009, -1/+12You sir, are my new religion.
- Kannebas, on 05/22/2009, -0/+10Here's some cola... Wine, coffee, cola, pet stains. Not only is the damage gonna be on top - There's your mildew. That is going to smell...
- jman583, on 05/22/2009, -0/+10Being alive can cause death in some cases.
- KSUdesigner, on 05/22/2009, -0/+10If by paralysis you mean make you so fat that you can't move.

- lordmike, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8Eat a banana... high in potassium...
- eryximachus, on 05/22/2009, -1/+9Mountain Dew does not contain cola.
- LonelyTylenoL, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8I always found it funny how mountain dew contains a carcinogen and a chemical that's supposed to prevent the carcinogen from affecting your body.
- Gemfinder, on 05/21/2009, -2/+10Heh…my ex could stick away five, 2-litre bottles of Mountain Dew at the height of his addiction.
I think paralysis would be a fair karmic price for the hell he put my cat and I through. - eLuminx, on 05/22/2009, -0/+8Isn't drinking 10 liters of soda kind of unrealistic? I mean i remember when i use to drink soda, it use to be something like half a liter a day, and i thought that was extremely excessive. Who in their right mind would b/w 2 and 10 liters a day? I mean that question very sincerely, how CAN anyone drink that much soda in one day?
The only reason it seems unrealistic to me is because I've never drank that much soda in a day nor have i ever met anyone who can, or someone who would actually do it. - legoalert33, on 05/22/2009, -2/+9***** you, my friend died from yawning untill his lungs exploded.
- SystemicThought, on 05/22/2009, -1/+8did we used to go out?
- dime5150, on 05/22/2009, -0/+7Banana flavored cola. Set and match.
- otbeverly, on 05/21/2009, -6/+12Ugh, ... and here I have a Coke in front of me. I know I'll still wind up drinking it, but it's only the 12 oz. plastic bottle (which I reuse a few times before recycling). Even though the sugars in cola would be bad enough, I don't think there would be nearly as many health problems if sugar was used instead of high fructose corn syrup.
Still, it's bad and though I try to moderate consumption, still probably too much. - MattZed, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6Of course it does, it tastes like water.
- smoothmann, on 05/22/2009, -0/+6You following me camera guy?
- TrevorBradley, on 05/22/2009, -1/+7Cause paralysis? That's the stupidest thing I eve
- jfkf, on 05/22/2009, -3/+8its actually 30 cans a day, as 10 liters are 1000 cl and a can has 33 cl
- Rain12913, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Seriously.....http://digg.com/health/Excessive_Cola_Can_Lead_To_ ...
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -3/+8Hold your wee for a Wii.
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Who the jesus drinks 2-10 ***** litres of cola a day? They deserve every health problem they get
- bkraj, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5I believe hypokalemia is linked with diabetes, which I'd imagine could be correlated with heavy soda consumption(at least type-II diabetes).
- Memnochxx, on 05/22/2009, -1/+6It /will/ not cause. It /can/ cause, and that's not saying much.
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
- enigmatics, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5Dugg down for calling it "jackie D". It's Jack, plain and simple.
- LonelyTylenoL, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5Yeah, if you yawn 'till your lungs explode.
- compgeek, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4I can drink one of those 2 litres to myself however that only happens once in a blue moon. I maybe drink 3 cans of soda a week on average. drinking 10 litres a day? That's just beyond stupid
- lordmike, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4Yes and no... Insulin release lowers blood potassium, and type 2 diabetics have very high levels of insulin, but their hyperinsulinemia is chronic and the body has already developed resistance to its effects, so the kidneys are easily able to compensate. As time goes on, and the kidneys get damaged by the diabetes, one of the ions they have troubule excreting is potassium, so chronic diabetics actually have a higher risk of hyperkalemia, instead of hypokalemia...
In the case of drinking large amounts of cola, we have the sudden insulin release of drinking sugary drink (the glucose tolerance test is essentially drinking a soda), along with the phosphosous in the soda (increases calcium excretion in the urine, which brings along sodium, which also brings along potassium), and the caffiene which acts as a diuretic. Diuretics increase potassium excretion because the kidney has to sacrifice potassium ions for every sodium ion that needs to be excreted... When the kidney is overloaded with sodium (as diuretics do), then potassium gets lost as well.
The combination of all these factors in high doses in a short period of time is what can cause they hypokalemic episodes.. - splorpdotorg, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4As long as it's "Not from Concentrate".
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5It's a good thing I don't drink 2 liters a day then.
- HyperVelocity, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4As George Carlin once said,
"Death is caused by swallowing small amounts of saliva over a long period of time." - 1smartguy, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5>"I don't think there would be nearly as many health problems if sugar was used instead of high fructose corn syrup."
There would be no difference. Your body doesn't differentiate between HFCS and sucrose. It has no problem quickly cleaving sucrose into the same two mono saccharides that make up HFCS. The surest proof of this is how fast the half glucose in sucrose can spike your blood sugar. Sucrose can get cleaved and pass through your intestines and into your blood stream just as fast as products with HFCS. Diabetics use glycemic index charts to help them understand which foods will spike your blood sugar quickly, and how much it will spike your blood sugar. Believe it or not, starches like potatoes, anything made with white flour, corn flour, rice, millet, etc. will spike your blood sugar higher than sucrose sugar or corn syrup, because starches are made up of pure glucose, where as HFCS and sucrose are half glucose. - Ajajadude, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4A little under 6 cans a day isn't all that much? I feel disgusted with myself if I drink 2 cans a day. I couldn't imagine ever drinking that much in a single day.
- donnikhan, on 05/22/2009, -0/+4I heard some guy on the bus say that 100% of people that drink Dihydrogen Monoxide die.
That's ***** up! - WiLLGT09, on 05/22/2009, -3/+7............................................________
