- lamiaconfitor, on 11/11/2009, -0/+38That is actually true, but I rather them not be forced into open wounds.
- badqat, on 11/11/2009, -1/+19We did a similar project at my hospital back when that was my gig. I turned the photos into a graphic poster that was posted all over the hospital. Used two doctors, and what grew in the petri dishes was downright disturbing.
- Frankzulla, on 11/11/2009, -0/+15Eww.
- tmonster1, on 11/11/2009, -5/+19Germs are necessary
if we let them evolve without us we wont be ready for them when they breakthrough our habitual defenses - Laminarcissus, on 11/11/2009, -2/+15I think what they write is interesting, but also I think they go too far in allowing their speculations on data sets to be put forth as reliable scientific results.
These are some smart guys talking about some interesting things, but it falls well short of what even qualifies as hypotheses, much less science. It's interesting chat, nothing more.
More disclaimers guys, more disclaimers. - MacBookForMe, on 11/11/2009, -0/+11Are doctors truly the dirtiest people in our hospitals?

- ManUnitdFan, on 11/11/2009, -0/+8And that goes double for Super Freakonomics. It's even less scientific than their first book.
- Spo8, on 11/11/2009, -2/+8I don't understand why people get so angry at Levitt for his global warming suggestions. He fully acknowledges the science. He's just suggesting novel approaches to the problem.
- reverseloans, on 11/11/2009, -1/+6Both books are great and really make you think. What is "conventional wisdom" is not always right.
- Insightful, on 11/11/2009, -2/+6Uh no. He acknowledges the science in a sentence or two, distorts the words of real scientists, and then the rest of the chapter is a commercial for non-proven pie-in-the-sky technology.
I loved Freakonomics. Most of it is based on Levitt's own research. This chapter was written based on Dubner's urging and contains no original research. - sneakyness, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3Genius is nothing but hard work. Read man. Anything. Everything. Your grammar is better than 99% of digg, so you can't be that disabled. There are programs out there to help you with whatever might be wrong with you, and they might also foot your college tuition bills too!
- krymson, on 11/11/2009, -0/+3I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled this month, which is oral surgery.
This makes me think I should tape a hand washing reminder over my mouth before I go in, which would be silly, but effective. - DrDigg, on 11/11/2009, -1/+3A lot of nurses are bad about it too. I go through about a bottle of alcohol gel a day and wash my hands at least 20 times a day. F'ing disgusting not to clean your hands.
- Berkana, on 11/11/2009, -4/+6WIth Super Freakonomics, they unleashed a lot of misinformation as well:

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/10/do-solar-p ... - jaydedrag0n, on 11/11/2009, -2/+4I love these guys. I hope they keep writing their fantastic and engaging books.
- topstorynz, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2the first step is admitting you have a problem - a bottle a day??? ;)
- catvllvs, on 11/11/2009, -0/+2That comment made me sad :\
I wouldn't worry about your learning disability - I left school after year 9. I was called "functionally illiterate" - I still can't spell, or add up. Entered uni as a mature age student, finished with honours! - EliteBeat, on 11/11/2009, -3/+4I'd like to be a doctor. I just don't think I could do the school work with a learning disability.
- Super6, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I think the purpose it to present novel ideas, they're kind of like economic mythbusters, if you find something interesting the go do a journal-worthy study yourself. The nature of economics, however, is that it is nearly impossible to prove any economic theory.
- sneakyness, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1But that's only because you let it grow.
- sneakyness, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1I don't blame them, it's not like their time is worthless.
- GrimReeper, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I think people expect to much from Super Freakonomics. I have only read the original so I can't comment on it but my impression is that they are trying to be accurate and interesting in the topics they cover but won't spend years trying to validate there hypotheses to the point that they can be published in a peer reviewed journal.
- BotchaMcCoola, on 11/11/2009, -0/+1And those are just the good ones.
- Super6, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I think they're making a lot of fuss over nothing. The passage doesn't dwell much on the solar panel issue, it doesn't seek to analyze everything but rather points out that they aren't as awesome as we're led to assume.
- DrDigg, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I can quit anytime, honest.
- Stacular, on 11/11/2009, -1/+2Trust me, med school is not about being the brightest - it's 98% about being willing to sacrifice your 20s to read textbooks.
- Super6, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1I'm watching the full hour-long talk now, great stuff
- Mujokan, on 11/11/2009, -10/+10Too bad they had to use that "global cooling" misrepresentation on their cover to sell a few more books. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5 ...
- Spo8, on 11/12/2009, -1/+1That's what I'm talking about in terms of non-proven technology. I don't understand the venom he's been met with.
- sneakyness, on 11/11/2009, -1/+1My mom just got me this book for my birthday!
It's really interesting. I'd take it with a grain of salt though, always should when people start preaching from the book of statistics. - Ferretman, on 11/12/2009, -2/+2With Super Freakonomics, they revealed that there's been a lot of misinformation as well...
There. Fixed that for you. - Volfie99, on 11/12/2009, -2/+1Did the Freakonomics guys say anything about being forced to watch commercials before being allowed to watch the video clip you want to see?
- lambda, on 11/11/2009, -3/+1Sweet! Now I don't have to read the book.

What is Digg?
