- bananasluggy, on 10/06/2008, -1/+42How to make money from something that would otherwise be beyond your reach?
Step 1: Make a pill form of it that doesn't work and tell everyone that it's "good enough."
Step 2: Make sure the plant form is kept illegal so you can be sure to corner the entire market on your own version of the thing.
Step 3: Profit! - alapoet, on 10/06/2008, -1/+36As a legal medical marijuana patient who has also been prescribed Marinol, I can tell you that Marinol just doesn't work.
Smoking marijuana is immeasurably more effective. - mykool, on 10/06/2008, -1/+28However, Chottiner said she feels much more comfortable prescribing drugs that have gone through the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval process. - - FTA
You gotta be kidding me. Marijuana has been tested to safe, it's tested thousands if not millions a times a day by a great number of people few of which report bad results. - NikoKun, on 10/06/2008, -2/+17Exactly... Marinol will simply never work right. That is because natural Cannabis contains a balance of Cannabinoids, and this balance is responsible for both the "high" and the medicinal effects.
You cannot take just 1 of the Cannabinoids, and expect it to work properly on it's own. Nor will they be able to synthetically produce the proper balance, at least I'd guess. Pharmaceutical companies just love to mess up those sorts of things, and they can't patent a plant. - UncommonSoap, on 10/07/2008, -4/+19How many people reading this are baked already? Digg count
- shotgunefx, on 10/07/2008, -0/+9Very true. When my brother was dying of cancer, Marinol did nothing for him except cost hundreds a month. Then he started smoking grass and that helped his nausea immensely with the nice side effect of calming him.
When my mother was dying of cancer, she needed to put on weight so she could get chemo, instead of Marinol, they prescribed her Megace (IIRC)
How the drug works, is not known, and wait for it.... IT MAY CAUSE CANCER. But on the plus side, it makes those ***** 300-500 a month. Yes, so much better than evil marijuana which besides being cheap, and actually working, has those nasty calming side effects. - alex7575, on 10/07/2008, -0/+8Didn't they just come up with a study that proved that pot didn't cause cancer? Mainly because the smoke from pot just kills the lung cells instead of breaking up their genetic material (like regular cigarettes do).
Not that it makes it 100% OK. But hey, vaporizing makes it virtually side effect free, well besides "that" side effect... - 1776, on 10/06/2008, -2/+10Marinol... haha, that's hilarious.
- Sp0rAdiC, on 10/07/2008, -3/+10Can you give any evidence of cancer caused by smoking marijuana? Anything at all?
- whoreable, on 10/07/2008, -4/+10Smoking causes cancer. Medical professionals should be promoting vapor instead of smoke.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7Marijuana has several cannabinoids where Marinol only has one, THC. There is a hypothesis that many of these other compounds work together to give marijuana it's therapeutic benefit - not just THC.

or brownies in this case - wafflesomd, on 10/07/2008, -1/+7Inhaling smoke of any kind is just bad period.
Smoke inhalation is really the only bad thing about marijuana. It can be easily avoided though. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -5/+10Who cares what a doctor says? It's my ***** body I'll do what I want with it. I need weed to be happier.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5That's the biggest test population they could ever hope for and the research is free. Big pharma won't be able to patent a plant so it will stay illegal.
- SIRBERUS, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6Breathing in *any* combusted materials (aka 'carcinogens'), can lead to the development of lung cancer.
Yes, the chances of getting it from smoking marijuana, in studies, have shown to be much less than tobacco... but it can happen.
Hell, breathing in smoke from BBQ'in a chicken is bad too. - inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5Living in a polluted city is bad too. Your lungs can put up with a pretty severe beating. A pack of smokes daily for 20 years and only then you get cancer? Pretty incredible.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+5If I'm not mistaken, Marinol is synthetic THC. There are dozens of other canibinoids in marijuana that have beneficial properties. Consuming the plant is the only way to get all of them into your body. ***** big pharma.
- TheJimid, on 10/07/2008, -1/+6So marinol blows as much as sativex....big surprise.
- wafflesomd, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4I'm about to be.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4ALL drugs should be legal for adults. What right does the nanny state have to tell you what you can or can't put in your own body? This war on some drugs - drugs without pHARMacuetical company labels on them - is *****! Look at how many people die every year from legal drugs, and compare that to illegal drugs. Now, take the number of deaths from illegal drugs and eliminate all the deaths that would not have happened in a legal and controlled environment. The only reason we have a war on some drugs is so we can maintain a police state, and make BIG PHARMA (who has over 1400 full time lobbyists working on capitol hill) a ton of cash.
Look at all the people who are dieing in the crossfire because some drugs are illegal. Just like back in the days of Al Capone. Prohibition did not work then and will never work, no matter how many people get killed or locked up in the process.
Addiction is a health problem not a criminal problem. Some people will get addicted to just about anything you put in front of them, others won't. If they are putting us in prison for the good of our health, why are they not arresting all the obese people for eating too much? Why don't we arrest alcoholics? Or smokers? If all drugs were legal, and addiction was looked at as a health problem the crime rates would plummet as fast as the pHARMacuetical company profits.
Oh... but THAT is the real issue, isn't it. In the end it is all about the cash, and we are just being farmed. Or is it - pHARMed?
*EDIT: This is my 420th comment. LOL - zephyr42, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5I just want to grow a specific plant on my own, without any trouble from any authority figures, pick the flowers, and smoke them.
- Mireiyu, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5When I get baked, I clean my entire house, read, make jewelry, and fix computers. Is that a lack of motivation?
- psud0, on 10/06/2008, -3/+7haha ... indeed hilarious. They should try with chewing, probably it could be a better kick then a Marinol pill :)
- Myztry, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4Pill form also completely ignores the social aspect. The routine of it all which gets wiped out.
Dope tends to form a social excuse much in the way 'having a coffe' or 'drinks with the guys'.
It provides the 'excuse' to get together, and something to do during awkward silences.
That aspect is rather sad, but it is part of modern social culture. - mustang460, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4He is making himself happy, hes smoking marijuana.
- PatrickFlorida, on 10/06/2008, -3/+6Try passing a pill around with your friends -- it can easily fall into the cracks of the couch. No way would I spend 20 minutes looking for it. On the other hand, no stems, no seeds. That would be ok.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3It's hard to alleviate nausea and vomiting with a pill that you can't keep down, and even when you can it takes 40+ minutes to start working. Vaporizing or smoking brings the desired effect almost immediately.
- SIRBERUS, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4He does... by smoking weed.
- iletumi, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Weed doesn't even kill brain cells, it does "numb" them though and tests have proven that once a pot smoker stops for a while those brain cells in hibernation resume normal activity after some time.
The cells in the lungs that die are the direct effect of smoking carbon substances. The cells in the brain that die are a direct effect of the loss of oxygen to the brain due to smoking.
How much is your health worth to you?
http://www.volcanovaporizersystem.com/ - KingRocket, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3Agreed
- overtoke, on 10/07/2008, -2/+5Yes smoke, including pot smoke, contains carcinogens, but pot smoke also prevents cancer.
Medical professionals DO and ARE promoting smoking vapor. - twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Your post makes no sense. Even if you meant Sativex, it still makes no sense as a reply post.
- flashback99, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2There is ZERO evidence that shows smoking cannabis causes lung cancer.
In fact a latest studies demonstrate a mildly preventative effect.
see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3655586.stm
The Seth Institute showed more recently, that THC has a detrimental effect on tumour cells in the brain.

(not a rick roll) - b8man99, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2If you research it enough, you can grow with minimal risk and no smell. Yes you're risking your freedom - but every fight worth fighting has risks. The citizens of this world need big balls if they expect anything to change.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Medicinal users couldn't care less about the social aspect of using their medicine. Trust me.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2That's ridiculous. Go tell someone who is depressed to make themselves happy instead of using Prozac. I would much rather vaporize or eat some Cannabis to lift my mood than take one of those zombie pills.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Sativex is derived from the actual plant at least. Unfortunately, it is from a single strain of Cannabis, and it is ridiculous to think that one strain will work for everyone. What bothers me most about Sativex is the fact that it IS real Cannabis, just in tincture form. It is like telling us we can legally buy coffee from the coffee shop, but brewing our own is illegal.
- greenkermit, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2why make a "synthetic" THC? isnt the point to smoking pot is that its all natural? these stupid pharmaceutical companies are ruining or bodies. "i smoked pot and nobody died"
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -2/+4Please link evidence that Cannabis kills lung cells.
- joshikus, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I think he meant Salvia.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Sativas are a type of cannabis as are indicas. Sativas give a head high while indicas give a body high. What are you talking about?
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3One day I'll get a Volcano vape. That thing is like the Mercedes Benz of vaporizers. Too bad it costs around $600.
- inactive, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2I haven't harvested yet. 3 weeks to go, baby!
- Franey97, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2What if you're conflicted about your own post? Im not so sure this was worth posting : /
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Slow down there Alex. All I did was ask for a link. You know nothing about me, so don't jump down my ***** throat like you do. Find one post where I am defending smoking.
I agree that we are not designed to breathe in burning organic substances. We don't take a deep breath over our camp fires, etc. I myself no longer smoke, but use a vaporizer or consume edibles instead. This does not work for everyone though. I personally know many people who can not use a vaporizer. Some can not eat Cannabis either. My one friend gets a migraine if he eats cannabis.
I have been using Cannabis for 25 years. I am also a medical user since a bike wreck in 2000, and I am good friends with plenty of other medical users. I have been active in the legalization movement for over 8 years now, and have done plenty of research on this incredible plant. I have never seen a study that says Cannabis kills lung cells, which is why I asked for a supporting link.
I don't have a horse. - twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -0/+2Google Dr. Donald Tashkin and learn about Cannabis and cancer.
- twistaspliff, on 10/07/2008, -1/+3Looks like the short bus arrived.
