- Bosiljevac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6All common sense ideas, being lazy is probably the number one reason for being fat. Get off your fat asses and go to the gym, it's maybe an hour of your day. Going to the gym is a great way to feel good about yourself, and you meet plenty of new friends at the gym. Respect your body, and stop being a dumb ass with it.
- inara23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Eat apples while wearing a black cowboy hat and staring sultrily at a camera.
- NoTiG, on 10/31/2007, -1/+5That is not true at all. Your body doesn't see sugars the same way... if that was the case there would be no such thing as the glycemic index since all sugar in all food would affect us the same.
Further more refined sugar is devoid of nutrients.... while blackstrap molasses and honey are not.

- dyranios2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Put down that sandwich and go for a run fatso!
(tough love) - bravo1995, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Putting the word "organic" on something just means it gets to be twice as expensive.
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you want to be healthy consult a dietician instead of looking at overly generalised views from someone that isn't necessarily qualified to write articles, let alone diet based ones. Note the credentials at the conclusion do not include the word dietician, which likely means this lady is just going off what she's read elsewhere without actual in-depth knowledge of it.
Dieticians can craft a customised meal breakdown depending on your body size, sex, age, activity levels, allergies, etc. and keep it nice and balanced for you. It's well worth visiting one at least once. - donkeyshow, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5please, if your a chick, dont lose any weight. skinny girls are....oh nevermind, forgot this is digg.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You're not lifting weight to build muscle if you're doing 15 light reps on a bowflex.
If you want muscle and muscle tone you have to do 5x5 of heavy weight, and try to increase the weight you're doing every workout.
Good job on being healthier, although a vegan lifestyle isn't nessecarily the best path, you went out and did something instead of just talking about doing it like most. - smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Its not that simple, if you want to lose weight yea that will work but you wont be healthy.
- inhaler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1fruit is pretty much sugar though. Yeah, bananas and raspberries have alot of fiber in them, which is good, but even being vegan, I try to avoid fruit just because it's a ton of unnecessary sugar.
- RegalGSX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Eat healthy and exercise? Brilliant!
- RedStateRetard, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4"7. Sugar. For the most part, refined sugar is not good for you. Try to cut back or eliminate altogether. Blackstrap molasses or honey are better choices. ....
Total *****, Molasses, Cane sugar, Beet sugar, Corn Syrup, Honey = sugar! Your body can't tell the difference. It treats it the same way. Well honey has a trace amount of phosphorus, but you'd have to eat 250% times the daily sugar allowance just to get 5% of the R.D.A. of phosphorus. Substitute honey and molasses for taste, don't fool yourself into thinking it's health food. moderation...
” When having a sugar craving, have fruit instead."
That I can agree with. Fruit has fiber, you body has to "work harder" to extract the sugars from fruit. - CraigJ, on 10/10/2007, -2/+316. Chewing Gum. As long as you don't do it around me. I have to wear headphone at work because the guy that sits next to me chews gum all day. The constant chewing sounds make me want to hurl...
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The sugars in fruits are natural sugars, pretty much all fruits have healthy things like anti-oxidants and vitamins... out of all the sugars you could take in, fructose is one of the best. Better than that "High Fructose Corn Syrup" garbage.
- bobcrotch, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6Hack your uh, body? How about eat less and exercise more and just skip the blog spam.
- hichnii, on 04/02/2008, -0/+1Detox diets are on the rise. Walk into a health food store or pharmacy and you’ll be presented with a huge variety of detox kits. Some are designed to cleanse your digestive system or your liver, while others promise weight loss.
http://detox.weebly.com/ - Xspire, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I still think the best diet article was on here a couple months back that said drink 16 oz. of water in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening. This will curb your appetite and even if all you eat is junkfood you won't be able to eat enough of it to really have much of an effect, but it still leaves you hungry enough to get the perfect amount of nutrition assuming you are eating the right foods.
- hugejimmy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Eat slow..thats a new one
- Promantarius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't chewing gum as a distraction train you to chew when bored, causing you to eat more if there's no gum available purely out of habit? I don't think I'd like to use soap on vegetables either, the whole boiling water thing is likely going to kill the germs.
On another note, this person doesn't list dietician as their credentials, only a few articles and a book or something. Do you really trust someone random with something as complex as your health? http://lifelearningtoday.com/about/ lacks any mention of any credentials behind her insights =/ - Malakin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1For the same reason the author states not to cook with flax seed oil, you should not cook with canola oil either. Better yet, you should avoid it completely.
Flax seed oil is 58% omega-3 and canola is 7%. Omega-3 fatty acids, when cooked, become damaged and contribute to certain degenerative diseases. Before you even buy it, most supermarket bought canola oil is extracted from the seeds using high heat, which damages the fatty acids. Additionally, the processing of canola oil often results in a significant amount of trans fat which does not appear on the label (1). Finally, canola oil contains about 1% erucic acid, which also contributes to certain degenerative diseases and is limited to under 2% by the FDA. Some argue that 1% is completely safe, but there have never been any long term human studies.

The author encourages eating salads. Salad dressing is a good opportunity to obtain essential fatty acids; unfortunately, most, if not all, salad dressing in your supermarket will not be very healthy. I suggest making your own. I think Americans may still have problems buying it, but cold pressed hemp seed oil tastes excellent and it has a good ratio of omega-3 to omega-6. - ohanon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Meg: Brian, how'd you get so skinny?
Brian: Here's a tip, PUT DOWN THE FORK! - Badnewsbear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And what, replace it with soda?
I swear that must have been the most retarded comment yet. I'm not saying they're the best ever, or it's true to substitute with just fruit. But I just can't see any reason to cut fruit out of a diet, especially considering they aren't JUST sugar. Least I know all of the ingredients in an apple. - frosted, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Again, diet without exercise is like the fastest car in the world, on the moon with no gas.

- crazywarthog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Most of the young women I see today we called hogs in my day. If they are fat in their teens and twenties can you image how fat and ugly they'll be at forty ! Just think of the food and health care cost if you married one of these hogs. Shameful and disgusting !
- jaymzdean, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Anyone who lists potatoes as a vegetable has revealed a level of ignorance.
- NoTiG, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11. while it may be good advice for some it is not absolute. You can be healthy just eating 1 big meal per day (as the spartans did) . In fact if you have 1 meal per day... or even to the extreme, eat only every other day you will actually have lower insulin levels and perhaps live longer. But lower insulin levels being key - http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn3668-dayon-dayoff-diet-boosts-health.html
4. popcorn is not what i would consider a health food
9. whole grain products can actually complicate things and cause problems because your health is related to your digestion. Refined carbs are actually easier to digest but devoid of nutrients. The answer? Sprout or ferment your whole grains (i.e. eat sourdough hard dense bread , soak your oatmeal in yogurt etc)
12. Don't use canola oil, aka rapeseed oil. it is not a health food - ekravchenko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0it's hard not to gain weight when you sit on your ass all day, no matter what you eat. So exercise and eat lots of fruits and veggies.
- spyd3rweb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Article Summary: Don't eat like a fat cow
- bravo1995, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This is pretty much a rehash of Body for Life and countless other nutrition plans. Nothing new here.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0To get all pesticides off of them.
- RegalGSX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I murdered my co-worker today for just that very reason. Took forever to stuff him in his file cabinet. Good thing the construction site across the street had a table-saw.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think I'm going out to the store right this instant to buy some Medimusal! I need more fiber!
- Mavrik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Wash all fruits and vegetables with soap, water and a sponge? wtf?
- inhaler, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4I'm not a physician, but I'll tell you what works for me. I run about 30 minutes a day (I think it's alittle over 3 miles), bicycle about 2 right afterwords, do 3 sets of 15 reps on my bowflex of light weight, and maintain a *healthy* vegan diet of a variety of vegetables and protein sources (like hummus, beans, etc). Last I was in at the doctors, I had a resting pulse of 50bpm, and my blood pressure was 117/71, both low averages. Probably in the best shape I've been in my whole life.
I don't think there are really any tips other than burning more calories than you consume, and lifting weight to build muscle tone. It's strange the article doesn't mention either - I assume exercise is an integral part of a diet. - michaelinnotts, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Buried for lifehack.org.
Chick in the pic is still hot, though. - frozenyoghurt, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Eat well. Exercise. Simple.
- inhaler, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Even if you disagree with 90% of what I said (dugg down, wth guys..), consider eliminating cheese and dairy or reducing it in your diet. When I went from veggie to vegan I think I lost about 30 lbs just because of that.
- euphemizeme, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I'm obese but I know exactly what it would take to get thin and healthy. I've known for my whole adult life, but I am still fat. shrug
- smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1I thought it was going to be bunk but for the most part its good, number 15 is a bit stupid though.
