  • amyliagrace, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1I cried for the first time in 20 years of having t1 diabetes, and those tears came from a few different places, but mostly, they came from a place of hope. I've never let myself hope for a cure in my lifetime before, and I feel like my heart and that center of hope within me has burst open today after watching Dr. Faustman. Maybe that makes me more vulnerable, but it makes me so happy to know that someone cares about those of us who have already had this disease for so long, and that we, too, deserve hope for a cure.

    It may or may not happen in my lifetime, but God bless Dr. Faustman and all who work with her and all in the public who've donated money to the trials, for giving me the gift of hope.

    I've guarded my heart for a long time against hope because it is painful when our hopes are dashed, but regardless of the outcome, I cry tears of hope and gratitude to Denise and all who are following their passion and what they know in their heart and their amazingly intelligent PhD/M.D. brains to be important and worthy of their energy and effort, and that just happens to be t1 diabetes and helping all of us who've lived this way for long enough and done our best to make due with the hands we've been dealt.

    Thank you, David and Elizabeth and Bernard, for bringing us this inspiring interview. What an amazing, down-to-earth, incredibly intelligent and hardworking woman Dr. Faustman is. She exceeded my expectations, and now let's hope the trial outcomes exceed expectations, as well.
