- dortdruben, on 12/20/2007, -0/+1Well, my nails are pretty strong and grow fast, and I let them get pretty long sometimes (yes, I am a girl for you phobes out there), and when I do cut them after they're long, boy oh boy are the tips of my fingers sensitive and tender! Kinda like how the bottom of your feet are after a winter of wearing shoes which--guess what!--protect your feet.

It's a remnant from our times in the trees (when we were apes). Nails were once good to climb trees, and of course to open nuts and stuff.
