Dinosaurs eat man... woman inherit the earth. I don't know where this is going. - inactive, on 09/03/2008, -3/+9Everything causes cancer... EVERYTHING!
- andrewtheart, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Oh, autism is caused by eating poorly? That's news worthy of a Digg headline.
- andrewtheart, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Using that logic, you'd probably have died within months or years of your birth - because you would seemingly support withholding vaccinations for incredibly prevalent diseases from children...
- EmberToInferno, on 09/03/2008, -1/+4Just take Omega-3. Fish oil pills are natural and way better for your body.
- nopRT, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Cutting all cholesterol out of my diet worked for me. No pill necessary.
- webkami, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3Do not worry, there will be a cancer cure within 24 hours on digg.
- MJG2007, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2That's why in the US, it's called Vytorin.
- Timdegreat, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2I smell a tort coming...
- Kamacurus, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I take all the medicine out of my pills and just take the capsule. Take that cancer!!!
- RevAradia, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Oh good. You won't die of a heart attack you'll die of cancer. Nice choice.
- Skitzil, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Inegy? Inept + Weggie = Inegy!
They need to work on their branding. ;) - SilverBlade2k, on 09/03/2008, -2/+4This is the problem with today's society. Everyone thinks science should solve every problem, and take no responsibility for their own doing.
If people eat *****, high cholesterol foods, then they should deal with the consequences. If they don't want clogged arteries, then they should eat healthy and, you know, exercise?.
Wolfing down pills because one is too lazy to do the WORK involved to keep cholesterol down is just plain stupid. Either you pay to keep your body healthy now, or you pay more to fix the problem later. - DennisIsAwesome, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2beware of miracle pills everyone. eat healthy and exercise
- veriix, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Damn you Cholesterol Pill! All of the hard work digg has done to cure cancer and then this!
- AnonBuffalo, on 09/03/2008, -1/+3Just to let everyone know the american version of this drug is vytorin.
- Br3ach, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Im pretty sure I will have finger cancer just for replying to this
- inactive, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Eat avocados and garlic... they both make a very significant positive impact on cholesterol levels.
- Clade, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2This was debunked a day before the article was even written.
http://www.nature.com/news/2008/080902/full/news.2 ... - bman1984, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Revolutionary idea!
- EmberToInferno, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Eat Cheerios and run. No cancer.
- bobwrit, on 09/03/2008, -2/+3This is why I don't take drugs. They all mess with your body.
- mrsteveman1, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Gravity you say........so they drain left?
- jcorn1, on 09/03/2008, -3/+4Thanks for the heads up on this one, scary stuff.
- bman1984, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1You do realize that your sinuses drain in the direction of gravity, dont you?
- Aesculapius, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Excuse me, but as a physician I think you are completely wrong on this issue. Here are but a few reasons why.
1. High cholesterol is often a GENETIC issue and not a dietary one. I have many patients with terrible cholesterol who eat right, have ideal body weight and exercise regularly (one is a marathon runner). Their cholesterol sucks. Cholesterol doesn't just come from food. It is also created on purpose by your liver because cholesterol is actually a building block for several hormones in your body. This cholesterol metabolism can be out of balance because of those genetics.
2. The "toxin argument" is starting to get old. Many people attribute cancer rates to the chemicals that are in our environment. Now, I am not saying they are completely harmless, but a recent study estimated that only 2% of all cancers are caused by man made chemicals in the environment. The exceptions to that study were smoking (duh) and several other KNOWN carcinogens that are already regulated and not dumped discriminantly into the environment.
3. Autism rates are increasing slightly, but not as much as people think. The reason is that over the last 10 years, autism was redefined to be a SPECTRUM of illnesses instead of 1 specific disease. So many more kids today are identified with autism due to the broadened definition.
Good nutrition is an awesome thing. It will help you live longer. But to suggest that it is the only thing that one needs to live a long healthy life is just ridiculous. - rohanch, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2Please stop posting the Daily Mail. Please. It's essentially what Fox News would be if it came in printed format.
If you don't believe me, check how they reported Google Street View:
http://www.bigdaddymerk.co.uk/mailwatchnew/?p=2677 - bman1984, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1I should have left autism off of my list, as I know little about it. I also know little about high cholesterol.
I still think ADHD and depression, however, are caused by poor nutrition at a young age. I am not talking about toxins, I am talking about improper nutrition. 2% of cancers being caused by man made chemicals does not account for the dramatic increase in incidence in the last 100 years. Poor nutrition is different than exposure to toxins. - Ellipsys, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1While changing your diet can help some individuals, remember that there is a percentage of those with high cholesterol who's livers produce it for themselves. Reducing your intake is helpful in many cases, but not everyone with high cholesterol has a horrible diet or simply just needs to eat better.
- nanoinvestor, on 09/19/2008, -0/+1I dugg you now please help this great cause.
A friend asked me to..........
Death To Cancer! Let us stop it. Please PLEASE PLEASE digg and shout this store. We can cause change. KILL CANCER
Let’s all help it is easy to do just dig here…. http://digg.com/health/Lixte_Biotechnology_leads_t ... - Elranzer, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1I hope this isn't related at all to Lipitor. If so then I'm *****. I'll now die whether I take it or not...
- discariot69, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1Call me crazy, but it might be helpful if we had more FDA testing of drugs before approval. No, wait a minute. My bad. I must be completely out of my mind. I mean, duh, if doing something that basic wasn't on the agenda to begin with, then the people would never put up with it. I mean, really, an agency of the government charged with protecting the public health being undermined by corporate interests and rubber-stamping drugs without sufficient trials? That could never happen. The well-being of the public is too important.
- Skitzil, on 09/03/2008, -0/+0...and why I only take drugs by sniffing. I don't want that crap messing up my digestive system!
- km6847, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1Just eat meat and stay away from vegetables and you'll be fine!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-IOuSg9fSE - Skitzil, on 09/03/2008, -0/+0I refuse to acknowledge gravity. It's still just a theory. *crush* *sniff*
- Burrito, on 09/04/2008, -1/+1Which is actually a combination of two other drugs, Ezetimibe & Simvastatin (brand name Zocor). They just sell you the same ***** and call it something else.
- webova, on 04/11/2009, -0/+0You can also check healthy foods like this to help avoid cancer and other harmful things: http://www.acaiberrysideeffectsreport.com
- hockeyisgd, on 09/03/2008, -4/+4What doesn't cause cancer these days...
- silentnight913, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0While many people can keep their cholesterol down by eating properly, some people are genetically predisposed to have it. I am female, weigh 118 lbs, exercise regularly, eat well, and when not taking Vytorn have a cholesterol level of 380. I assure you, I am not lazy. I'm a distance runner. Some of us simply have no control over this problem beyond taking medication. Have to say though, I'll be talking to my Dr. about switching to something else after reading this story....
- creatunity, on 12/10/2008, -0/+0That is crazy that scientists can't find these things about before producing the pill. I was reading about this natural fruit called the acai berry that has potential to fight off and prevent cancer cells, I read about it on http://www.acaiberrymd.com . Its a natural fruit, just like God intended it to be.
- EatLemons, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0I stopped drinking soda for 4 weeks and i lost 15 pounds,
- Suicyc0, on 02/19/2009, -0/+0How about a better way to lower cholesterol? Diet & exercise! I dropped my own cholesterol by 55 points doing it!
http://www.dontstayfat.info - Senturion, on 09/03/2008, -5/+4The problem is that our society now teaches us that a pill will solve all of our problems.
So Big Pharma pumps out various shapes and colours of ambiguously-named, poorly-tested drugs and we swallow them without a second thought. - brettg102, on 09/03/2008, -8/+2Can't we just let people die of what they are supposed to die of? High cholesterol...have a heart attack.Darwinism ftw. /s
- bman1984, on 09/03/2008, -11/+4You would think doctors would have realized by now, it is all about nutrition. You can not fix poor nutrition with a pill. You can however, as a scientist, line your pockets by selling a pill. All of this nonsense; ADHD, autism, cancer, depression, the list keeps going, are reaching epidemic because people eat like *****. Its not rocket science people.
