- Trichomonas, on 04/18/2008, -1/+3It's been a long time coming.
Canada has been checking for these things for a while now... - saikyan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4This is all because of that earthquake earlier today.... It released drugs in the lake and rockets in the sky...
- Duositex, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Alarming? Only to people with something to hide.
- lennybird, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1You know they recycle sewer water in most cities, right? Pretty F***** up.
- Ryosen, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Drugs in the water?
First one's free.
- Trichomonas, on 04/18/2008, -1/+3It's been a long time coming.
- BXRWXR, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5If they want to find something that will make their eyes bleed, they should test the Sanitary Ship Canal.
- Modestexcuse, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1I'll drink to that.
- Jovensdesciple, on 04/18/2008, -0/+38***** man, water in Chicago is gonna loose its job.

- Picer, on 04/18/2008, -3/+9There needs to be more government regulation and intervention, it seems the American Government is too busy "regulating" Muslims in Iraq to tackle the issues at home.
- hierophantus, on 04/18/2008, -2/+6I can't figure out in exactly what way that comment sucks, but it does. It's like a multiple choice of suckness.

Water usage in Chicago spikes to an all time high.- TJ11240, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2I love drinking anti-seizure drugs
- BadseedJR, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4You probably don't have any seizures
- TJ11240, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2I love drinking anti-seizure drugs
- Cytranic, on 04/18/2008, -2/+38By firing missles into space?
- diggit83, on 04/18/2008, -2/+7Wtf does this thumbnail have to do with the article?
- dmark77, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6It was the poppy seeds on my bagel man!
- milktea, on 04/18/2008, -1/+3don't drink the water!
- elliotys, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6It's really not cause for concern. They are finding these drugs in PPT, which is far below any harmful/therapeutic level. Just remember that this is in all water in the US, you can not get around it, so switching your water source will do nothing.
- burningmanstan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6True, the drugs are often at very low concentrations. However you have to consider that this stuff is not just in the water you drink. It may be in every food item that contains water or was made with that water. And higher concentrations are possible
- elliotys, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1Good point. I will also say the only way to reduce the amount of drugs in our water, is to get more Americans off of their prescription drugs with a focus on pre-emptive healthcare.
- McGee, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2Yes, they may be in just PPT, but we do not know what effect these drugs (even in that small of an amount) have on animals, nor the effects of chronic exposure on humans. We also do not know if it promotes bacterial resistance to common antibiotics.
Fluoxetine, (AKA Prozac) has been shown to kill mussels in water systems. What else could be happening?
- burningmanstan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+6True, the drugs are often at very low concentrations. However you have to consider that this stuff is not just in the water you drink. It may be in every food item that contains water or was made with that water. And higher concentrations are possible
- Samuraizero, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2Getting high just drinking water? Sweeeet, dude.
- DeFex, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1It would be amusing if everyone tested positive for everything.
- BikerDude69, on 04/18/2008, -1/+3Now if only they would stop putting mind altering chemicals in the municipal water supplies. Fluoride and (what's the other one to prevent biological attacks?) are NOT good!
- techweenie1, on 04/18/2008, -0/+19Delta IV Rocket = Tainted Water In Chicago.
- endlessoul, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Well, of course.

- endlessoul, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Well, of course.

- jgatz, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1its a tricky subject
look up the CCL3 if your really concerned - Hetman, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3No wonder I feel so much better after drinking tap water. I was jonesing for that stuff last night. but it could also have been the dry mouth from the alcohol a drank also.
- FriedFerret, on 04/18/2008, -0/+0a test was done in Ontario recently and they found pain killers and other stuff in the drinking water.
http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/350146 - rezist, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1NYC water has a low concentration of various drugs. Some say it's the result of people flushing pills... I don't buy that.
http://gothamist.com/2008/03/10/drugs_in_the_dr.ph ...- ImpulseControl, on 04/18/2008, -0/+5They do flush the pills... it's just that they do it after it's already been digested. Even though it's been through your body, odds are there will still be trace amounts left.
- liuite, on 04/18/2008, -1/+2c'mon people, pharmaceutical drugs in doses of ppt is not harmful like widespread use of HFCS in our food
- saikyan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+4Just say No to rockets!
- omegaredIX, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Do you guys know how much water you would have to drink in order for the drugs to have any sort of effect on you? Do you know how many tons upon tons of drugs would have to be dumped into the water systems for ***** to actually happen?
- burningmanstan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Nobody knows yet thats why there is a problem
- Corrosionx, on 04/18/2008, -2/+2If they find drugs in the Chicago waters, will Chicago be charged with drug possession? This will be another proof that the war on drugs has absolutely no effect (except for propping up organized crime)
- MorphicMusic, on 04/18/2008, -0/+0Now we know whats wrong with the youth.
- ImpulseControl, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2We can thank the RedEye for this one.
http://redeye.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/cover ... - karolisonline, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1wtf? You use lake water for drugs? we even don't use it for shower, only fresh water from 700m under the ground....
- CyberStriker, on 04/18/2008, -3/+0Ha! Where are all of you "tap water is better than bottled water" people now? You can't beat bottled freshness.
- shellcase, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Well, at least we don't get a high dose of bisphenol A in our drinking water.
- burningmanstan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Bottled water does not have to be tested for any of these drugs. For all you know the concentrations in the bottled water may be higher.
- heystoopid, on 04/18/2008, -0/+3Most Bottled water sold over the counter including the fancy stuff , is merely repackaged tap water from the mains !
- zombird, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2Where do you think your bottled water comes from? Here's a hint, it's not from a magic glacier or a mystical waterfall.
- Wonderama, on 04/18/2008, -2/+1Shhhh...don't tell Congress. They'll classify tap water as a gateway drug to protect children and fight terrorism. Or they'll just tax it.
- evilcaptain, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1The real news is that they should be testing it all the time. What are they getting paid for otherwise!
- shellcase, on 04/18/2008, -0/+0By 'for drugs', they mean 'intercontinental ballistic missles', apparently.
- Pawfoots, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1They need to be more concerned about the dangers in cheesing.
- OutAndAbout, on 04/18/2008, -1/+1This it not news, nor a new concept. Water systems are tested on a regular basis.
Let me know when they stop testing the water, and then I will be alarmed.- burningmanstan, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1No municipality, to my knowledge, is required to test for these drugs. Usually testing is only required after everyone decides that it is a problem ie lead, arsenic etc. Lab testing is expensive and they usually only test for what is required on their treatment permit. A few scientists only recently started testing for many of the drugs that they are finding. So this is very new and definitely news.
- heystoopid, on 04/18/2008, -0/+1As Tom Lehrer said
If you visit american city,
You will find it very pretty.
Just two things of which you must beware:
Dont drink the water and dont breathe the air.
Pollution, pollution,
They got smog and sewage and mud.
Turn on your tap and get hot and cold running crud. - cathl, on 04/18/2008, -0/+2This is proof of how big the big pharma lobby is.
- beauley, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1It seems that our country's affection for prescription drugs will come back to haunt us,
as it is now being proven that our water supply is infected.
