- karishore, on 05/12/2008, -6/+9Gay activist really don't want to reach out. They just want to out themselves and promote their lifestyle with no other comments allowed. Cowards.
- prolifemama, on 05/12/2008, -7/+9I refuse to call homosexuality a lifestyle. It is sin, and the people who practice this sin are much in need of healing. Therefore we should not confuse and mislead them by using their terminology to describe or refer to this sin. Next to continually inviting them back to the Truth, the greatest kindness we can offer is to keep the truth always before them by our actions and words.
There is also need for healing in our society with regard to what human sexuality is, why it was gifted to us by our Creator, and how it can point us to Heaven. Our Salvation became Flesh to dwell among us. Salvation is accomplished in the person of Jesus Christ, Who became Flesh.- lydecker, on 05/12/2008, -2/+10Homosexuality isn't a lifestyle. - prolifemama, on 05/13/2008, -6/+4The act of giving in to homosexual urgings is sin, and as such is indeed an 'aspect of someone's being, and one part of their life.' Sin is part of everyone's life, and an aspect of everyone's being. The neat thing about sin is that while it's a reality due to our fallen nature, it is also something we can choose not to do. Christ can help us to choose not to sin. That's why He came.
- lydecker, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5The act of giving in to SEXUAL urges, homosexual or heterosexual, is a sin and choice... but it's not a lifestyle.
- Nannybell, on 05/13/2008, -3/+2I agree with the first part of what you said. However, it is a lifestyle if it becomes a habitual pattern.
- lydecker, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Anything, if it becomes a habitual pattern that describes a way you life, is simply one among many ways you live. The emphasis that people place on their own behaviors, attitudes, and tastes may elevate the significance of that in one's lifestyle. A lifestyle is still one person's collection of all behaviors and attitudes.
No one behavior or attitude is a lifestyle, but lifestyles can - and are often - focused on varying behaviors and attitudes when compared.

- sup34dog, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Wait, so you're telling me that you have repressed homosexual urges? You're basically saying that homosexual urges are natural, it's just that giving in to them is a sin.
I don't think homosexuality is wrong, but I don't have any such urges. That's probably why I don't oppose homosexuality.

- KCLorelei39, on 05/12/2008, -5/+5What do followers of God have to do with either gay activists or the APA? Both are equally odious deceptive associations that deceive many.
Open air preaching, and humble service, is much more effective that following popular notions of the times.- these3remain, on 05/12/2008, -3/+4You got that right, sista.
- prolifemama, on 05/13/2008, -3/+1What do followers of God have to do with gay activists, the APA, Planned Parenthood, the NEA, etc.? They're our brothers and sisters. God calls them as He calls us. We can live the Gospel in front of them. We can invite them to Christ, who spent much of his time at table with the societal dregs of his day.
- Phyraxus, on 05/12/2008, -2/+8OMG, how do the posts above me do not understand the irony. They claim that, "What right do these guys have to shut down an event that claims homosexuality to be a mental illness? They simply suppress the ideas that are in opposition to their SIN."
The other guys claim, "What right do you guys have to claim that homosexuality is a SIN? What right do you have to label us based on your ideology?"
Homosexuality has already been determined NOT to be a mental illness. All it comes down to is christians calling homosexuals sinful then claim to be "oppressed" when others say that they aren't sinful and that they need to quit labeling others based on their own personal ideology. Christians claim a right to spread their ideology but no one else has that right (although, others aren't spreading their ideology, it simply appears that way because anything that is in opposition with theirs should not exist.)- Nannybell, on 05/13/2008, -4/+2In 1973, due mostly to pressure by homosexual activists and not wishing to be perceived as oppressive to any group, the APA removed homosexuality as a disorder. However, recent studies have pointed to psychiatric problems being attendant with homosexuality in Western societies where homosexuality is accepted and not viewed negatively (and thus the psychiatric problems are not explained by society's rejection of the homosexual). Some are questioning whether or not the APA was correct in removing homosexuality as a disorder. Europe did not remove it as a disorder until the early 1990s. But we can all just wait another 20 years or so. That will be enough time for homosexuality to be normalized in all of North America and Europe and for a generation to have grown up without the stigma. When at that time homosexuality continues to be attended by psychiatric disorders out of proportion to the rest of the population, then perhaps pro-homosexuals will have to re-evaluate.
- idoj, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Why do you assume homosexual activists were responsible for changing the minds of the APA? According to the APA link here: http://www.apa.org/topics/orientation.html#mentali ...
" Psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals agree that homosexuality is not an illness, mental disorder or an emotional problem. Over 35 years of objective, well-designed scientific research has shown that homosexuality, in and itself,is not associated with mental disorders or emotional or social problems. "

- prolifemama, on 05/13/2008, -5/+2Any deviation from God's Original Plan for us is indeed a form of mental illness. Christians don't claim oppression simply because others disagree as to what's sin and what isn't, and they don't insist on others not being permitted to publicly espouse their own beliefs, or lack thereof. Christians claim oppression when Christmas songs are ousted from choir repertoires, yet Kwanzaa and Islam are forcibly 'celebrated' by their children in public schools. Christians claim oppression when Nativity scenes are barred from public display while menorahs and stars/and/crescents are protected. Christians claim oppression when ID is prohibited in public schools while Darwinism is proclaimed fact rather than theory. But this oppression is our guidepost. Our indication that our Christianity is on track is the protests we inspire around us. Jesus said there'd be days like these.
