    HIV is a really hard virus to produce a vaccine for. Scientists can take a flu virus and make a vaccine in the lab in weeks - HIV has been stubbornly resisting all attempts for twenty years. There have been a lot of 'almost got it' moments.

    Maybe also providing a safety net without shame and stigma to treat those people addicted to substance abuse would also help them, instead of continuing to keep them as a massive resource drain on the system.

    Actually it does , most research is done in CANADA with funding from our system , the US used to drown the research world with new discovery but then the HMO and insurrance company started to think that costly R&D was better left to other people and stopped all basic and scientific research.

It'd most likely be made available to anyone willing to pay for it, and with government programs in some countries to distribute it free to the highest-risk groups (prostitutes, mostly). If it's cheap enough, perhaps even mass-vaccination, as is happening slowly with the vaccine for HPV.

  • zenmechanic, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4You are correct, If the testing is done in the US it will expedite FDA approval. If the tests are done in Canada, the US will then have to also run their own battery of tests.

    The market is much bigger in the states, therefore it makes more sense to get it to market first where it will make the most money. Canada will do its own testing to have our health board approve it too, which will be easier if it has already been approved by the FDA.
