Step 2: Test on US citizens
Step 3: Allow general use
Good one Canada. - steelersfan7roe, on 07/02/2009, -2/+65Does this mean a cure has been found for animals? Cuz me and my monkey haven't had sex since the first outbreak.
- Kakumeikeahi, on 07/01/2009, -0/+56So yeah, we made this vaccine for you guys. Here you go test it. . .
- stoanhart, on 07/02/2009, -2/+53Step 4: Profit!
Holy crap, it actually works! - inactive, on 07/01/2009, -1/+51Will be exciting to hear the details of results after testing is done.
(Happy Birthday Canada! Shouldn't we be giving YOU gifts?) - searcade, on 07/01/2009, -14/+62Another cure to reach the Digg Homepage.
- feacesface, on 07/02/2009, -9/+54More socialized crap from communist Canada. Vaccine? More like crapzine. You can keep your left-wing hoity-toity "AIDS cure" to yourself - real Americans just say "no".
- kierucom, on 07/01/2009, -1/+32Vaccine != Cure
- alappat1, on 07/02/2009, -9/+35Oh no.. 'socialized' healthcare gives us no new breakthroughs... wait ..what? The research field is still relatively active in a country with universal healthcare? UNPOSSIBLE
on another note.. happy Canada Day everyone! and congrats to Dr Kang on the vaccine! - vizerei, on 07/02/2009, -0/+23I don't think people are understanding that you're joking...
- Kinneas12, on 07/02/2009, -0/+19The sad thing is that HIV/AIDS would be as much smaller an issue if the ***** church stopped banning condoms.
The issue is serious in the developed world, but not nearly as huge as it is in Africa. Thanks, Jesus! - badqat, on 07/02/2009, -2/+18Oh come on...while this isn't a "cure", we all know digg has been "curing" AIDS since 2004.
- Aroundtown27, on 07/02/2009, -4/+20We aren't dumb you know...
- alibasbas, on 07/02/2009, -0/+14Isn't this the prelude to I AM LEGEND?
- undervalued, on 07/02/2009, -0/+13Stephen Colbert?
- raustin, on 07/01/2009, -0/+13"It is a very important milestone for us," said Yong Kang, a professor of microbiology at the University of Western Ontario in London who has been working on the vaccine for 20 years.
-I'd be a bit more excited after spending 20 years on something... - Barackalypse, on 07/02/2009, -1/+14This sounded all promising, until I read: "Dozens of HIV vaccines have already been developed and tested in animal models, but few have been tested in humans, none successfully. A promising trial in 2007 by pharmaceutical giant Merck and Co. was shut down after those receiving the vaccine contracted HIV at a higher rate than those who received the placebo."
- CrazyEddie041, on 07/02/2009, -0/+13I think you accidentally a verb.
- DouglasQ, on 07/02/2009, -2/+14Adorable.
- hoju7887, on 07/02/2009, -0/+12so wrong yet feels so good
- paradigmxx, on 07/02/2009, -1/+13First UWO creates a treatment for Diabetes, now HIV - epic.
- Suricou, on 07/02/2009, -0/+11The former. If it works. Big if.
HIV is a really hard virus to produce a vaccine for. Scientists can take a flu virus and make a vaccine in the lab in weeks - HIV has been stubbornly resisting all attempts for twenty years. There have been a lot of 'almost got it' moments. - inactive, on 07/02/2009, -1/+11it's spelled moran.
- ImperatorTerrae, on 07/02/2009, -0/+10Hopefully it doesn't cause a zombie invasion of some sort. That's always how it goes down in fiction/film.
- anonymousmedic, on 07/02/2009, -1/+10A ton of new aids cases come from people having irresponsable and unprotected sex with multiple partners. Maybe handing Condo....oh wait...
Maybe also providing a safety net without shame and stigma to treat those people addicted to substance abuse would also help them, instead of continuing to keep them as a massive resource drain on the system. - FrEaK40, on 07/02/2009, -1/+10Canada understands :)
- moulinneuf, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9
Actually it does , most research is done in CANADA with funding from our system , the US used to drown the research world with new discovery but then the HMO and insurrance company started to think that costly R&D was better left to other people and stopped all basic and scientific research. - thrashermx, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9Meh, I'll die for another reason.
- CWest540, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8Canada's greatest contribution to society.
AIDS Vaccine or Canadian Bacon.
You Decide - ChiffX, on 07/02/2009, -0/+8HOW IS BABBY FORMED?
- TheJimid, on 07/02/2009, -3/+11A ton of new HIV cases in the US come from people sharing needles. We could prevent a lot of new HIV cases with needle exchanges.
- undervalued, on 07/02/2009, -1/+9Douche is digg's favorite insult word..... Douche.

Since you think you need to repeat your lies all over the place :
This Vaccine was developed in CANADA , the Dr did go to the US for some time do , but the piss poor facility in the US and the lack of funding and lack of real scientist ( it's all moneygrabber looser this days ) , forced the creation of a new facility in CANADA , who did the discovery .. - frsrblch, on 07/02/2009, -1/+7lol

- Suricou, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5The vaccine wouldn't be given to the already infected. It'd most likely be made available to anyone willing to pay for it, and with government programs in some countries to distribute it free to the highest-risk groups (prostitutes, mostly). If it's cheap enough, perhaps even mass-vaccination, as is happening slowly with the vaccine for HPV.
- Ozzsanity, on 07/01/2009, -0/+5Does this mean that if it works it will prevent you from getting HIV or does it prevent HIV already present from turning into AIDS?
- woofer1125, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5I know, we ***** rock!
also, I met the prof while attending that school. He's really cool. - JRSU1, on 07/02/2009, -0/+5Didn't Magic Johnson get this vaccine about 20 years ago?
- inactive, on 07/02/2009, -2/+7Love it...
- Kinneas12, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Awesome sounding and I hope we got it right this time, but this is not the first time by far that the world has seen a potential vaccine for HIV.
- zenmechanic, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4You are correct, If the testing is done in the US it will expedite FDA approval. If the tests are done in Canada, the US will then have to also run their own battery of tests.
The market is much bigger in the states, therefore it makes more sense to get it to market first where it will make the most money. Canada will do its own testing to have our health board approve it too, which will be easier if it has already been approved by the FDA. - Suricou, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Poe's Law.
- moonasha, on 07/02/2009, -0/+4Chyea, once upon a time, the US asked Australia if they could dump Sarin and VX gas on 200 of their troops. Go google it.
