- gootecks, on 02/12/2008, -0/+19We need a user's guide to getting optimally high with marijuana. Well I don't, but some people do. :)
- justintsmith, on 02/12/2008, -0/+18Sounds like someone didn't get his cup of joe this morning.
- benroy, on 02/12/2008, -1/+17I am not a health nut. But I unintentionally weaned myself from Caffeine.
I replaced it with Beer. - ripple123, on 02/12/2008, -2/+17Heroin stopped doing the trick for me after i got promoted, so now i inject puppy blood.
- macosx86, on 02/12/2008, -0/+15A landmark 2004 study showed that small hourly doses of caffeine (.3mg per kg of body weight [approx 20 mg per hour; thanks digg!])
=> That's 20mg not 200mg... - fozzymandias, on 02/12/2008, -0/+12i may be wrong here, but isnt 200mg an hour quite a lot?
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11Excellent article. I've always used caffeine improperly. I tend to use it as an 'after' effect of long night working (morning coffee) or after all nighters back in school -- to keep awake through the day. Probably best to use it early and often in moderate amounts to help with focus and just avoid the late night work altogether.
- FaithclubDotNet, on 02/12/2008, -1/+11I once saw on TV a guy who drank 100 cups of copy had time slow down, and he saved people from a fire.
- mapkinase, on 02/12/2008, -1/+11200mg per hour? Are you nuts? Thats 2 cups of coffee per hour. Think Kramer.
- bubba9999, on 02/12/2008, -1/+10Meth addicts have no room to complain about caffeine users.
- 89vision, on 02/12/2008, -2/+11Beer stopped doing the trick for me after college, now I do heroin.
- speedyrev, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8For maximum caffeine, go brewed coffee instead of espresso drinks. A good rule is this, the lighter the roast, the more caffeine.
Also try drinking a cup of grapefruit juice a few minutes before the coffee. It increases the absorption of caffeine in the digestive system. - Shouden, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Sounds like someone works at Starbucks.
- jdpalite, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6An example of which battle not to pick.
- aussieNickuss, on 02/12/2008, -1/+7I've always wondered about the whole caffeine thing. It doesn't effect me one bit.....I can have a coffee at any time of the day (including right before bed), and it has no effect of energizing me or keeping me awake. A friend of mine can't have coffee after 5PM, otherwise he's awake all night.
- jynweythek, on 09/17/2008, -1/+6as someone who once ingested 1500mg over about four hours, I can tell you it is not hallucinogenic, nor does it impair driving to the degree you describe. rather it causes panic, anxiety, racing heartbeat, and feels like a couple hours in hell. =(
- offspring06, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Giddy up
- jamangold, on 02/12/2008, -2/+7Try taking caffeine and cimetdine (Tagamet) together. Cimetidine blocks the CYP1A2 enzyme in the cytochrome P450 system (a set of liver enzymes) that plays a role in metabolizing caffeine.
- krnldmp, on 02/12/2008, -1/+6That ***** will kill you.
- greenvortex, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
- DaFunk, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5The max recommended daily oral intake is 1000 mg. 200 mg every 3-4 hours.
- lolinyerface, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5Didn't get the extra foam and sprinkles. It'll be a rough morning.
- LokitheComplex, on 02/12/2008, -1/+5I only took caffeine up a couple years ago when I realised I was sensitive to it.
I could have a strong cup first thing in the morning and not be able to sleep until 2 in the morning. I would lie in bed and think why can't I sleep then remember I'd drank some coffee. Then I would wake up early.
I found it was a stimulator, mood enhancer, motivator and energy giver.
However I fear it might have triggered my corneal erosions that cost me my job.
Possibly though dehydration of the cells or free fat acids. But thats only a vague theory. - derekbender, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4Ah caffeine. Ranks right up there along with fire and the written word as mankind's greatest achievements.
- hilo4321, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3200mg/hr is an outrageous amount of caffeine
- offspring06, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Oh marijuana how I miss you. I quit smoking yesterday.
- ripple123, on 02/12/2008, -2/+5***** Africa. they'll always be starving, no matter how much damn money you throw at them.
- elscorcho717, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Next up: getting the most out of your crack cocaine
- DaFunk, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Or you could try grapefruit juice or echinacea.
- ultraJesus, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4Enjoy your aspartame.
- marcusbrutus, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3I'm so glad there isn't an anti-coffee lobby.
- studiocitizen, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4I'm more of a meth guy myself. I got tired of the coffee breath and brown stained teeth. Now I don't have any teeth. I win.
- abran1984, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4I hear one of the downsides of coffee is anxiety and nervousness, but I've never experienced it. /finishes 24oz coffee
...OH *****! /quickly minimizes window ... Sorry, I thought I saw my boss... - Ultra99, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3Missed your Latte this morning, eh?
- b8man99, on 02/12/2008, -1/+4I like the idea of that article - but too many points have been made pointless by having "some research proves x does this, while other research proves x does the exact opposite".
- lejake, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3I drink 8 cups of coffee through the course of the day, about 2 cups every 2 hours. It's fantastic, yes I'm addicted, but there are far worse things.
If something helps you think more clearly, keeps you regular, and tastes good...then why the hell wouldn't you drink it? - andycr512, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Turn off your computer. The money spent on electricity to run it and internet access could feed 20 kids in Africa for a month.
- fatsobob, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2There is one thing they forgot to mention, keep properly hydrated on caffeine. Though most energy drinks have a lot of water in them, your body still needs more water to keep functioning properly with caffeine in your system. Most of the time you do not think about being dehydrated after drinking a liquid caffeine source, but you likely will need about a cup of water to be properly hydrated.
- haski, on 02/12/2008, -7/+9I never use caffeine at night. It just doesn't work for me, I instantly fall asleep. it doesn't make sense, I know. but I get my portion of caffeine always after lunch time when I tend to procrastinate and it seems to work.
.
Well, now when I'm thinking about that - it's 2pm... what the hell am I doing here????? byeee, got to work :-) - sledhead45, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Hmm, this article doesn't mention anything about ingesting your caffeine with alcohol. The caffeine source being red bull and the alcohol source being vodka.
If you want to be productive, being just wired won't always cut it. Sometimes the task at hand requires being wired and drunk. - RavagesOfTime, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Don't you know caffeine causes serious delirium?
Of course no one will catch the RZA reference. - jamangold, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2I noticed that too. He says the optimum hourly dose is 0.3mg/kg. At my body weight, that puts the dose at about 30mg, not 200.
- ctabone, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2I take it, kind sir, that you are not a scientist?
"If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?" -Albert Einstein - nbcaffeine, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2hey buddy
- jynweythek, on 09/17/2008, -0/+2got any tips? :)
- mahlerfan999, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2It's actually well known that caffeine consumption at first causes drowsiness, and the buzz comes later. You're not alone in drinking coffee to sleep.
- aladrin, on 02/12/2008, -2/+4200mg per hour!? I didn't drink that much in a DAY! (I recently quit drinking caffeine because it was running my life.)
For those wondering, 200mg is about an 8oz cup of coffee. There's 40-60mg in the average 12oz can of caffeinated soda.
So good news for most of you... You're already ingested the correct amount just by drinking that cup of coffee. 2 cups in an hour and you've drank too much, though. - jlungu, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3Get a prescription drug to increase caffeine's effects? I'll stick with the grapefruit juice.
- winmywii, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Is it the aspartame or the caffeine that is so addicting?
- Shouden, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3It does quite nicely if you keep taking it at regular intervals. In my experience you don't get the downer effect unless you stop taking it.
