- DeviantDragon, on 04/07/2009, -3/+26This baby formula will make your baby run like KENYANS!
- realpolitik, on 04/07/2009, -1/+19"Do not drink water from the public water supply!"
You're being ABSURDLY alarmist. - Hetman, on 04/06/2009, -2/+18Because it is not rocket fuel. The title is hyperbole. It says right in the description. "Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel" Hydrogen is found in many chemical elements like water, that does not mean if we drink water we will explode. I am not saying this is completly bogus but if the title read. "The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention looked for the chemical, perchlorate, in different brands of powdered baby formula to study the affects it has on babies." Would have not have recieved 25 diggs.
- tahseenm, on 04/07/2009, -0/+12people will watch them running and think they're KENYANS
They'll race as fast as KENYANS
Against actual KENYANS
And it will be a tie and they will get deported back to KENYAAAAAAA - pingpants, on 04/06/2009, -6/+18More babies in jet packs!
- loper, on 04/07/2009, -1/+13Wait, "...a chemical ...could exceed what's considered a safe dose for adults if mixed with water **also contaminated with the ingredient**, a government study has found." No ***** *****.
I see, so if I mix 2 aspirin with a bowl full of aspirin that might be bad? huh. - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+10Here's an idea, why don't mothers breastfeed their babies?
I never will understand why so many babies are formula fed. Formula is stupid expensive, not nearly as good for the baby as breast milk, and well tainted with things like perchlorate. Breast milk is free, made exactly for the baby, and comes in such nice containers. - HappyScrappy, on 04/07/2009, -1/+9Hydrogen is also rocket fuel (used in shuttle main engines). And water taken from babies' bottles has often been found to have measurable amounts of hydrogen in it.
- inactive, on 04/06/2009, -2/+9I was wondering why my son could run so fast.
- redux2redux, on 04/06/2009, -6/+13How can there be any 'safe dosage' of rocket fuel...
- inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+6Our grandparents always tell us how formula was considered a status symbol. It was considered superior to breast milk back in the day (at least by the common man, not sure what doctors thought) and you did what you could to afford it because you wanted to let people know you had the money. Back then, only the poor breastfed their children.
Now it seems that only the more affluent, educated people breastfeed. My how things change. - anand1st, on 04/07/2009, -2/+8That explains why my 3 yr old kid gets displaced 3 feet every time he farts
- jemka, on 04/07/2009, -1/+7Actually it's because he's not really your son, which also explains the constant tan.
- NipGrip, on 04/07/2009, -0/+5Formula was introduced as a way to assist women who could not (for whatever health reasons) breastfeed their baby. Now, it's very much overused as more of a convenience factor or even in some cases where women don't want to possibly cause issues with the way their breasts look which is just utterly stupid as we're talking about your children's foundational health; the very first nutrients and antibodies they put into their bodies. Not to mention washing and cleaning bottles and mixing that crap up doesn't sound that much more convenient.
- nigelmansell, on 04/07/2009, -1/+6well there's traces in the water supply, and if you mix it with your drinking water... NEW HEADLINE
CDC: Rocket Fuel chemical found in drinking water - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -2/+7I have discovered explosive substances in water.
hydrogen and oxygen
Our planet is a giant bomb. - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+4I am a male. My wife, though, who breast fed our son for over 2 years and is planning on breast feeding our next child, would tell you the same thing.
It was terribly difficult for her the first 2 months. Cracked, bleeding nipples, a baby that was (and still is) a slow eater so he was on the boob for hours every single day, etc. But after that 2 months was over, she wouldn't have had it any other way. In fact, she's the working parent and her job takes her away for a couple of weeks per month. So while she was away, she had to pump and find some way to store and transport milk back to me and the baby. She's going to have to do it all over again starting this summer.
So if she can do it, anyone can. It just takes dedication to your child instead of selfishness (assuming there is nothing preventing one from breastfeeding - e.g. medical reasons). - rompom7, on 04/07/2009, -0/+4Spoiler: Companies that bottle water have LESS restrictions on the purity of the water than the federal standards for tap water.

and
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/ch ... - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+4There are other things you can do to support a baby than to give it insufficient nutrition.
- canchin, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3At least in China, the head of the company that was putting Melamine in baby formula was executed. Who wants to bet that the heads of the companies in America putting rocket fuel in baby formula in the States will simply get fined a couple hundred bucks and open another company under another name and remain comfortably free and wealthy?
But in reality it doesn't matter since the FDA allows over 3,000 toxic chemicals to enter the America food chain quite legally anyway and those chemicals are already killing people off by the thousands so what's a few babies drinking rocket fuel? It probably has more healthy components than anything packaged that can be purchased in the average supermarket or fast-food dive. - ConcernedCanuck, on 04/07/2009, -1/+4now how did that get there....
- NipGrip, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3This is why the breast is best as nature intended.
- TheUngod, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3More like if you mix 2 aspirin with a bowl of arsenic it might be bad. If you mix ANYthing with something contaminated, it becomes contaminated. Also, saying "an ingredient in jet fuel" doesn't mean crap. Unless they specifically say it's a horribly dangerous ingredient, who gives a damn. Water is probably in jet fuel. This is just stupid.
- flamesoftheend, on 04/07/2009, -1/+4this can only mean one thing. EXPLODING BABIES!
- inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3....Wow.
- diggduggjoe, on 04/07/2009, -0/+3Plus, you must remember what the FDA and EPA are for. They prevent lawsuits against poor corporations. All they do is put out extreme levels of pollution and contamination and for anything less the corporations get an easy out. If, the EPA and the FDA say its safe, its safe.
Heaven forbid we have individual rights to sue and win. - scarz99, on 04/07/2009, -2/+4This was on the front page last week.
- Adrian540, on 04/07/2009, -2/+4BLASTOFF!
- rentmitchum, on 04/07/2009, -1/+3lol... "Traces of a chemical used in rocket fuel"
Oh, well there is sodium in piss.. and *****.. so technically there are traces of a chemical used in 2 girls 1 cup in every cup of water you drink. True story. You can't argue with SCIENCE.. - AmyVernon, on 04/06/2009, -6/+8This is beyond messed up.
- BurgGuy, on 04/07/2009, -1/+2Bogus, they may as well run this header,
LOOK OUT!!! He's got dihydrogen monoxide, and is going to contaminate baby food with it. - inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Newsflash: without a man there would be no baby either.
- pantsperch, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1doo de doo de doo
- lordzelo, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Its a man baby!
- inactive, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Then you know some pretty ***** up people who aren't representative of anything. Who is this "we" and what, exactly, do "they" do to make "well over six figures?" Internet big shot.
- lava, on 04/07/2009, -1/+2On the upside... flying babies...
- jh4rms, on 04/07/2009, -3/+4Shouldn't have kids then, bitch.
- crescentfreshld, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Without at woman there would be no baby.
- SmokenJoe, on 04/07/2009, -1/+2A naturally occurring chemical.........if you combine it with contaminated water might be harmful but there is no evidence despite the fact it is widespread.
Wow this so deserves multiple post of the same third rate story. AP for the win when you have noting to write about you can always fill with a old Associated press article that says nothing. - Hurricane, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1Damned Martians, tampering with the baby formula.
- rheaume, on 04/07/2009, -1/+2Its in the water supply you *****. Remember when it was funny they found anti-depressants in the water supply? You all thought it was a hoot. Whats wrong with this one? Were ***** poisoning our planet and nobody cares.
- tylerdurden09, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1yeah, I laughed when I read that part. Some studies that come out nowadays are so bone-headed I am astonished that they were even funded in the first place.
Studies such as...
"too much caffeine can cause heart problems"
"watching too much television can make you lazy"
"not getting enough sleep makes you more prone to illness"
"picking a scab results in bleeding"
"taking a piss results in immediate relief from bladder discomfort"
The last two I made up just now, of course, but seriously, these studies are ridiculous. - Hurricane, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1U B a bAd speelEr iT B LectruLiTES DUmAsz
- crescentfreshld, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Um, breast implants and ridiculous depictions of what women "should" look like all over television, movies, the internet, print journalism, etc.? Yeah, I guess women have become a little sensitive about their looks over the past few decades...
- KnightofOrder, on 04/07/2009, -4/+4Holy ***** stop ***** posting this story over and over. EVERYONE HAS SEEN THIS.
- ig88b1, on 04/07/2009, -1/+1I haven't,
- ohreilly, on 04/07/2009, -0/+0Even worse, dihydrogen MONOXIDE.
Ban it at once.
http://www.dhmo.org/ - captspaulding, on 04/07/2009, -1/+1" if mixed with water also contaminated with the ingredient"
ya, it will have high levels of cyanide if you mix it with a water and cyanide solution.
WTF people. - daronicus, on 04/07/2009, -0/+0Perchlorate (the chemical of concern) is not "rocket fuel." Yes, it is a component (it's a handy oxidizer, but guess how much of the rest of your body is, too), but it also naturally occurs in water and is used in medicine for thyroid infections. Of course, too much of it is still bad, so it's still of concern that it's there, but calling it rocket fuel is sort of sensationalist.
