- theschnaz, on 01/21/2008, -2/+9Which other exercises do you guys do to keep your workouts fresh? When I can, I like to run to the gym; this way I get a little cardio exercise in too.
- diieson, on 01/21/2008, -0/+7So hot, thank you for that image
- Brodels, on 01/21/2008, -1/+7word, i just got out of the bath and there are definitely rings starting to develop. gotta start exercising tomorrow... or wednesday...

- Namakemono, on 01/22/2008, -0/+5So you're a Trekkie?
- lOvOl, on 01/21/2008, -6/+11Horrible, horrible, horrible advice.
If you do no other exercise throughout the day, do squats. If you find squats too easy, then try doing pistols (one-legged squats). After squats, the next most important exercise would probably be the good old fashioned pushup. After that, then maybe do some ab work like situps or crunches, just make sure you throw in some lower back work as well so your abs don't get overdeveloped, relative to your lower back (the most neglected bodypart of the casual exerciser).
Of course, I personally use free weights and workout pretty much every body part, though I do body weight exercises when free weights are not available to me at the time. But for casual workouts, you are going to burn a heck of a lot more fat and calories doing squats than doing ab exercises. - fdw2006, on 01/21/2008, -0/+5Correct, I haven't done any of these. In fact, I haven't done much of any real exercise which is something that needs to change (at some point).
- Jimbo51, on 01/22/2008, -0/+5This BS comes around every January. If you want abs, you need to lose the body fat on your stomach. You do that primarily through diet and CV exercise. Ab exercises do not burn body fat.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -1/+5I've got to think that at a certain point, it's too embarrassing to exercise. I used to weigh more than I do now, and I wouldn't want to exercise in public (running, gym, etc). In fact, I'm still not in the best shape, and I still wouldn't want to run in public.

- bobcrotch, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3This is good information. Your quads and hamstrings are the largest muscle groups that you have, working them out nets you a very nice caloric burn.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3No, he's right. If you do the same routine every day, your body will become accustomed to it and will no longer grow. You have to switch up exercises. 6 weeks on a program before you switch is a good rule of thumb. You should also switch up tempo, reps, sets, weight etc....
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3I play DDR and do push ups along with curls and some other work outs for building muscle.
- thedaylights, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3Wow. You are off-topic.
- blitzer, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3Exercises I am not doing?
This list could be 5,000 items long.... - hollygolitely, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3push ups. you can modify it to get a lot of those upper body muscle groups.
- JohnboiWaltune, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3This is some of the the worst advice I've ever seen. It is a recipe for sickness and injury. Sure, you will lose weight, but for the same reason people in forced labor camps lose weight.
Low intensity, low impact cardio 30-60 minutes a day, light weight training 3x/week, flexibility exercises, and cutting junk food out of the diet will do it for most people. There is no magic, just common sense and persistence. - tgc1, on 01/21/2008, -1/+4Lifting food into my mouth. I'm already exhausted with this cake.
- titlesaysitall, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3I don't know why, that just sounds like a gay porno for some reason.
- DTJunkie07, on 01/22/2008, -1/+4push ups
- smurf22, on 01/21/2008, -0/+3These exercises are mandatory for the track team at my school, besides swimming.
- MojoFilter, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2I know, right? That's exactly what I thought when I clicked on it.
- krets, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2I do sprints but I do them around the basketball court at the gym. Sprint balls out for about 3/4 of the long side of the court and then walk around the short side. Lather, rinse, repeat.
- gfxlonghorn, on 01/21/2008, -2/+4Pretty useless.. if you want to get in shape run(or any high level cardio) and eat better. All this pilates crap is, is a slow and easier way to the same outcome(if even that), but pilates leaves you with a huge hole in your pocket. Your never going to see a morbidly obese chick vouching for the incredible powers of pilates, its always the chicks that have a little pouch of fat that tout the miracle workings of pilates since they just happen to have a good metabolism and haven't worked out a day in their life. So when they finally do its a miracle when they gain something from it.

- web2pointYo, on 01/21/2008, -1/+3If your looking to lose extra weight or body fat exercise is half of the game. what you eat is at least as important. One of the best quotes I ever heard was "you can out eat any exercise program".
- salinemist, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Clean and press.
Saying "I work out" doesn't mean ***** if you can't pick up something heavy and put it over your head. - clutchdude, on 01/21/2008, -0/+212oz. curl
- guapito, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I train for marathons and do a great deal of running. Eating right, sleep, and a routine are essential. The hardest part for me is making time. I am going to add the sprinting part just to have fun. Never know when it can come in handy.
- mannymix03, on 01/21/2008, -2/+4@theschnaz
The easiest way to keep workouts fresh is to do it in a different order each day, and just mix it up when ever you work out, so your body never grows accustomed to the routine. - winmywii, on 01/21/2008, -0/+2You first comment is what you see in most gyms. The DL and Squats are the kings though.
- krets, on 01/21/2008, -1/+3"If you find squats too easy..."
Add more weight. Duh. - Devotia, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Troof. You want to lose a little weight, and a lot of money, by all means, Pilates is the way to go. If you want to lose the same weight for basically free, run or swim. If you want to lose a lot of weight, put down the fork.
- thedaylights, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I know some people who are morbidly obese will wake up really early and do power walking around the neighbourhood. Walking fast (so that your heart rate is elevated, but not hammering in your chest) turns your metabolism to fat-burning mode. In contrast, running burns your immediately available energy (sugars and glycogen in muscles, liver) but does not immediately burn fat. So if you are looking to burn fat and avoid prying eyes, I suggest walking and reducing your caloric intake. It's also much better for your knees which can be damaged by an aggressive running regime.
- FXPooky, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Anyone know of some exercises that don't require weights for the pecs?
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Pretty much any time you refer to your stomach as a "belly" it's a sign you need to get a gym membership going.
- lagartoflojo, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I go biking twice or thrice a week, and I go trekking on the weekend.
- inactive, on 01/21/2008, -3/+56] Deadlifts & Squats also, I forgot.
- Namakemono, on 01/22/2008, -1/+35%? *****. That is the percentage that competition body builders get to on tournament day. It's dangerously low.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I usually go on the same program (all free weights) for 6 weeks, then change up the exercises, reps, weight etc.. I'll do a 3 month bulk phase, then cut phase, then strength/power phase. Cutting from 196 down to about 170 now, so protein is up, carbs and fat are down, weight is lighter, but more reps etc...
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I just try to avoid taking elevators and searching for close parking spots. Then again, I'm not looking to get built or anything, but it works well enough for me to just avoid using devices that are specifically designed to prevent exercise, rather than to use devices designed to create it.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Horrible advice. You need to eat to be healthy. 5% is on the HIGH end of a pro athlete or bodybuilder. You need a good bit of proteins and complex carbs and yes fat in every diet or you are going to destroy your health. That diet may be great to crash course loose some weight, but you are not just loosing fat with it. You're burning up your muscles and bone structure, and you cannot maintain that diet for too long. You need a "diet" that you can maintain forever.
- krets, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Uh, no. Whatever ***** hole of a magazine you read that in should be shredded, burned and then reshredded.
