No. it's not.
It's ***** long *****.
Stop digging up your own stories with multiple accounts, loser. - BaronSamedi242, on 03/07/2009, -6/+287Uh, Bruce did in fact lift weights. In fact, in one of my books on him, there's a photo of one of his routines he was doing in Hong Kong.
- zuiquan, on 03/07/2009, -4/+155That would be a great article if it weren't full of *****. Bruce Lee was a huge proponent of weights, early on he did classic bodybuilder workouts and later graduated to more functional, full body training. The guy has some good ideas but to use a ***** hook like that to get people reading gets the old bury button push from me.
- migcmc03, on 03/07/2009, -8/+96Not to shabby... We don't need to depend on a gym- get outdoors, walk, run and so on. Another thing, as the article advises, use your body weight. I've been doing pull-ups with a hanging rope. Don't waste your money- if you have a gym membership- use it but expand your horizons. Take your workouts outdoors!
- KilGil27, on 03/07/2009, -1/+84the jim? really?
- Infowarsdotcom, on 03/07/2009, -0/+75I can't catch them with chopsticks when they're sitting helplessly in a bowl.
- WillSunrider, on 03/07/2009, -5/+77Yeah, jim also got me in shape.
- korea, on 03/07/2009, -10/+76Bruce Lee did weight training with compound Olympic style exercises. For exercise, I bury zenhabits and cracked.
- TheGrimGuzzler, on 03/07/2009, -16/+81"Could throw grains of rice up into the air and then catch them in mid-flight using chopsticks."
Now that is badass! - mrhandyman, on 03/07/2009, -1/+64Buried sooooo hard.
Not because of the Gym thing, but the simple fact that this man lived his entire life hour for hour in a way that allowed him to pull off incredible physical feats and look as well as he did. I avoid gyms like the plague, but I firmly believe that if someone wants to be as exceptional as this man was, you can't just do an hour a day and eat healthy when you feel like it.
Buried for "Want to be like Bruce Lee? Well here's 4 easy steps!"
I can go into a whole bunch of (real) zen bs that's going to get me buried or I can just leave it at that, which I'll do. - GEOFF361, on 03/07/2009, -1/+63...bruce lee did a good amount of weight training as well
- Amadeus2490, on 03/07/2009, -6/+66Buried as inaccurate.
http://www.straighttothebar.com/images/posts/04071 ... - bodger, on 03/07/2009, -0/+46The snow is definately a problem. That's why I've gone for a Sara Lee physique and strength.
- Endrian, on 03/07/2009, -0/+46To be fair, that shot was taken a second before Mr. Lee broke the bar like a toothpick over his deliciously sculpted thigh.
- ChayD, on 03/07/2009, -0/+44Outstanding comment
- krummb, on 03/07/2009, -0/+42Exactly. The submitter of the article makes it sound like he never touched a weight, that couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, Bruce Lee had a Marcy Circuit Trainer specially built for him.....he was a huge proponent of weights and resistance training.
- dhice, on 03/07/2009, -0/+42Just go Rocky Balboa on the snow, and chop wood.
- gfxlonghorn, on 03/07/2009, -3/+42If you knew anything about Bruce Lee, he was the biggest advocate for weight training. He would lift every day, as well as do non-weighted exercises just as much.
And he couldn't do 50 one armed chins either(Mostly because the chin up king, could only do 18 or 19). They are simply making up statistics. He could have done one armed chins with his other hand around his wrist, but that is the same as a 2 armed chin up if you have enough grip strength.
You cannot get a body like Bruce Lee unless you mimic weighted exercises in your own home. And if your doing that, you might as well just get a gym membership, because you'll only get a worse workout at home. - rolan1bp, on 03/07/2009, -2/+37Not so easy when there's a foot of snow on the ground. :D
- MasterGrief, on 03/07/2009, -2/+37Guym?
What's a guym? - waleedo, on 03/07/2009, -1/+35One rule they didn't mention..."Be Bruce Lee"
- b3owulf, on 03/07/2009, -1/+35Have you never seen Rocky IV?
- thecheatah, on 03/07/2009, -0/+32Umm.. cleaning up that snow can be quite a work out...
Who said working out couldn't actually be practical? - lis880, on 03/07/2009, -0/+30Bulong his corpse could probably kick your ass.
- defy, on 03/07/2009, -1/+30Uh, it helps add credibility to your article when you use actual facts. Bruce Lee revolutionized martial arts training by focusing a large amount of time on weight training. Traditional training focused on sparring, shadowboxing, and katas/stances while Bruce Lee shifted much emphasis to weight training that built lean body mass supplementing the martial artist. This ended up changing the way martial artists and MMA fighters train forever.
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -1/+27Hilarious. I honestly would not have noticed that.
- Treshnell, on 03/07/2009, -2/+27That's a Freudian Slip if I've ever seen one.
- CptCold, on 03/07/2009, -1/+26FTA: "More impressively is that Bruce trained his body without ever stepping into a gym and with very little use of..."
Whatever the point may be, that statement is just not true, not even remotely. It wasn't until Bruce started using weights that he started building bodybuilder-esque physique. In fact, he had weight machines built specifically for him. Also, isometric exercise is much more complex than body weight, it's usually applied to exerting maximum force against a static object for set amounts of time (8-15 seconds).
The authors intentions may be good (to expand your horizons), but using deceptive examples disqualifies the writer's authority and insults the reader. Buried for inaccuracy. - inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+24For some people, it's motivating to have a schedule where you get out of the house and hit the gym.
For others, the motivation is in seeing chicks doing aerobics in leotards. - aenima987, on 03/07/2009, -0/+20Bruce
- evetsleep, on 03/07/2009, -3/+23That's what she said.
- RcFromTwitter, on 10/10/2009, -0/+19Quite a comment.
- inactive, on 03/07/2009, -0/+17Yeah, but could he catch a fly?
- Larssonk22, on 03/07/2009, -2/+19Bruce Lee did not, he had to work hard at everything.
He was short sighted wore glasses then later expensive contact lenses. He had 1 leg longer than the other, and a undecended testical (which luckily for him (and us) meant that he failed his medical to be enlisted in the vietnam war).
He proved with dedication you can achieve anything.
"using no way as a way, using no limitations as a limitation." - Spire3660, on 03/07/2009, -0/+17Bruce Lee was trained to be deadly, Ali was trained to box with rules. Bruce Lee engaged in literally hundreds of street fight challenges, Ali never fought outside of the ring. Would just like to add that Ali is one of my personal heroes, but Bruce Lee was something else altogether.
"Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend." -Bruce Lee
- BrendanJB, on 03/08/2009, -0/+17Shovel yourself a path dammit! Or power THROUGH to snow and be like "***** you nature", I'm going to run right through your pansy snow, you can't stop me from achieving my goals you dirty son of a whore.
- AkiraIsley, on 03/08/2009, -0/+17Great comment.

- Logrusmage, on 03/07/2009, -0/+16Goddamnit. Bruce Lee wannabe's are almost as bad as "How can I look like Brad Pitt from Fight Club" frat bois.
- DatoeDakari, on 03/07/2009, -2/+17But that's where you're wrong, I am a geek
- vspazv, on 03/07/2009, -0/+15But the girls inside the gym are wearing so much less clothing...
- Aleman360, on 03/07/2009, -7/+20You're working different muscle types. Push ups are more of an endurance exercise, plus they also work your abs a little bit.
- drgmdp, on 03/07/2009, -1/+14beginner's luck
- stellar71, on 03/08/2009, -0/+13Excellent comment.
- immatellyouwhat, on 03/07/2009, -0/+12So your paying to watch girls in less clothing??? Hmmmm where else could you go to watch girls with less clothing for money? Hmmm....
- cawfee, on 03/07/2009, -0/+12Well, I certainly applaud anyone wanting to do a hundred pushups, but take it from this old gym rat, I've spent my entire adult life in the gym, and a program like this one can do more harm than good.
If you only train one part of your body (and that's all a single exercise like pushups is going to do for you), you're setting yourself up for injuries down the road. I've seen it a hundred times.
It's like putting a powerful engine in a stock Toyota Tercel. What will you accomplish? You'll blow out the drive train, the clutch, the transmission, etc., because those factory parts aren't designed to handle the power of an engine much more powerful than the factory installed engine.
Push-ups basically only train the chest muscles and to some extent, the triceps. What you really want to do is train your entire body, all the major muscle groups (chest, back, abdomen, legs, shoulders and arms) at the same time, over the course of a workout. And don't forget your cardiovascular work!
I'm proud of you guys wanting to do this. Three cheers! Falling in love with exercise, eating right, etc., is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself. And you WILL fall in love with it if you can just force yourself to stick with it a year or two and experience the amazing progress you'll make.
But do it right, okay?
My advice, find a good gym, with qualified trainers who will design your programs for you (especially in the beginning, until you get the hang of it yourself) and guide you in your quest for physical fitness. Thirty to 45 minutes a day, three days a week, is all you'll ever need to do (I refuse to believe anyone is so busy that he or she cannot make time for that, especially considering how important it is).
And don't worry about being embarrassed or not being in shape the first time you walk into the gym. You have to start somewhere and almost every one of us were there ourselves at one time. So no one will say anything to you and very, very quickly you will progress way beyond that stage anyway.
Now get out there and do it! :-) - ColonelJessup, on 03/07/2009, -6/+18Here we go with the digg.com expert fitness gurus...............................................
- tgc1, on 03/07/2009, -0/+12Well you don't get a body like his by sitting on your butt, that's for sure. That guy trained hard, pretty well every day of his life.
- burketo, on 03/07/2009, -1/+13i think that the Gym keeps you from toughening up. It's grand if you want nice pecks, but if you want to be tough then you have to be uncomfortable. If you can fell a tree on a slope, in the rain and with a blunt axe you will blaze through any equipment in a gym.
That's just my opinion. -
