- sydouglas, on 04/06/2009, -2/+24Hail Science and Reason!
- awtripp, on 04/06/2009, -0/+19He does have two broken legs -- so a cocktail of various opiates, perhaps?
- ImOnYourTeam, on 04/06/2009, -2/+18god Damn. Give stem cell research the bailout money!
- Kanuhduh, on 04/06/2009, -0/+15The dude in the picture has two broken legs, why the hell is he so happy?
- JustJoe4Life, on 04/06/2009, -1/+16Happiness stem cells injected into the brain.
- drmangrum, on 04/06/2009, -0/+13New invention called kidneys. They filter the blood.
- Twinked, on 04/06/2009, -0/+12Interesting development. I'm all for this type of research. With Motocross racing and skydiving. I've broken many bones in my body. Some more then once.
Good stuff! - inactive, on 04/06/2009, -2/+14In the immortal words of Peter Griffin...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxy0bYkCTtE - LawScholar, on 06/25/2009, -0/+12This is critical research, and important to me personally. I have chronically bad joints - by the age of 15 I had two operations to repair my knee cartilage, which is unusually weak and prone to degradation. While I do not pretend to need the research nearly as bad as those with chronic diseases, it is still very promising and gives me great hope for my future joint health. Awesome news.
- avengerp, on 04/06/2009, -0/+11While I find your comment humorous, these particular stem cells are taken from a patient's own marrow (as clearly stated by the full article).
- Rivetgeek, on 04/06/2009, -0/+10Oh right, Lisa. A maaaagical kidney that makes eeeevrything better.
/homer - LonesomeFighter, on 04/06/2009, -0/+9he has Aflac and is being paid to sit on a couch all day

fap fap fap - analogkid01, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7And an even more serious stop.
- copypastry, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7I see Magneto being a prick and pranking people by moving the stem cells to the anus and sealing it.
- pradaaddict, on 04/06/2009, -0/+7This is great technology. U of Bath hosted a great public lecture last year on the subject of Stem Cells and the speakers commented that using bone stem cells to heal broken bones will likely be one of the first applications of stem cell innovations as the material is in every person and can be easily extracted. But getting the cells to go where we want in the body is a technology that will take some time to develop and test fully. It won't be as simple as using magnets to direct the cells, the method of cultivating stem cells is still a fragile and new process. Stem cells only replicate if certain conditions are met.
- inactive, on 04/07/2009, -0/+5Eventually we will be able to grow entire limbs back as well as heal spinal injuries that cause paralysis. This is definitely exciting news.
- NextGenXbox, on 04/06/2009, -2/+7It has begun...
- pageinfo2008, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5good news for Elijah Price (Mr. Glass).

- serif69, on 04/06/2009, -0/+5*snikt*
- atarijedi, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4I wonder if stem cells could be used to reactivate vestigial things, like pheromone receptors, or possibly be used to help people who need glasses, or have glaucoma, etc...
- backflipper, on 04/06/2009, -0/+4Actually, it says they are extracted from bown marrow. So they are adult stem cells.
- gozroth, on 04/06/2009, -1/+5OH SNAP!
- dehnomac, on 04/07/2009, -0/+4...also, people soon maybe using their flying cars to travel to and fro.

- banderwocky, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4You were in there for like 15 minutes
- pradaaddict, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3Using it to correct Glaucoma is one potential application of a different type of stem cell from the one they are talking about in this article. The development of something like this is decades away.
As for correcting vision that can be done cheaper right now by laser eye surgery. - umdigger, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3This is exactly what I've been waiting for to get my knee fixed! Just expand on this to work with tendons and ligaments.
- frequentFlyer, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4Yes.
- JesusSaidSo, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3I hate vans!
- Brassbud, on 04/06/2009, -1/+4I think the best thing that could happen from stem cells is a whole new body.
Normally the cells are harvested early, but I think with proper medical support these cells could continue to grow, perhaps for years, into something resembling a human body. Then, when the time is right, you harvest all the cells by taking out the useless parts of the nervous system and replacing them with your own.
This could keep you alive indefinately and I wholeheartedly support this research. - CoreyHalliwell, on 04/06/2009, -0/+3STEM CELLS RULE!

- DiggasWAttitude, on 04/06/2009, -0/+2Fetus grinders are too high tech and impersonal. I like the old fashioned way better:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPQCH1b_LgE - rayen99, on 04/06/2009, -3/+5Get your facts straight. GWB didn't ban stem cell research. He blocked federal funding for embryonic stem cell research and restricted embryonic stem cell researchers to using existing stem cell lines.
From the article:
"The Southampton University technique combines the person's own stem cells with donor bone cells.."
This particular research was done with adult stem cells. These are stem cells that come from ones own body, this research was never restricted in any way by GWB. - latrosicarius, on 04/06/2009, -1/+3let 'em come. i got my pump shotty
- dominator1989, on 04/07/2009, -0/+2It's only a model
