- doublefelix, on 06/16/2009, -3/+129Boobies make you smarter until you hit puberty.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -1/+113*****. All the teen moms in my highschool breastfed, and they dropped out.
- ImTheManWhoRU, on 06/16/2009, -3/+85Well I have done plenty of breastfeeding in college and it hasn't helped.
- Mothrog, on 06/17/2009, -0/+63It's a difference of 0.02 and based on a sample size of a whopping 126 kids. What was the error in the study? Is that GPA difference even statistically significant? Sounds like another garbage "study" to me.
- AaronCo, on 06/17/2009, -2/+58This is digg. Your cat doesn't count.
- fluidfoundation, on 06/16/2009, -2/+51I could go for a grade booster.
- trer, on 06/17/2009, -1/+38I have nipples, Focker. Can you milk me?
- LiquidIse, on 06/17/2009, -1/+34Correlation != Causation
And wtf? 0.019 point increase?! In a 4 point scale? Are you serious? - Shiloah, on 06/16/2009, -2/+23Too bad they didn't know about this when I was in school. I would have asked for extra help.
- tmparlato, on 06/16/2009, -0/+20are they still doing these studies? i thought it was in the bag- breastfeeding is superior.
- borez, on 06/17/2009, -1/+15I always found breastfeeding before an exam really helped me along with my results.
- thisisthetruth, on 06/17/2009, -0/+12you have a cool mom
- Barackalypse, on 06/17/2009, -0/+12What is really interesting is the increased probability of college attendance of 0.014, considering 1/126 is 0.0079, that number must be caused by one single individual more going to college.
- JanusTheDoorman, on 06/17/2009, -0/+11Is there an ongoing effort to find every set of correlated values that I'm unaware of?
- likwidfuzion, on 06/17/2009, -0/+10OVER 9000?!
- fragMasterFlash, on 06/17/2009, -0/+9So who can afford a wet nurse in this economy?
- Spuy767, on 06/17/2009, -0/+9It has less to do with breast feeding and more to do with the fact that breast feeding mothers are usually part of a more attentive and caring family structure. I think the Latin, "Cum hoc ergo propter hoc." applies here.
- mrpunman, on 06/17/2009, -1/+10Pillow edges doesn't count as well
- CoD4, on 06/17/2009, -0/+7Those count
- TheInformer, on 06/17/2009, -1/+8This is one way to make me study harder.
- xenuxenuts, on 06/17/2009, -0/+7Breast feeding is the standard. The more accurate thing to say is that using formula is sub-standard.
- bencho, on 06/17/2009, -0/+7They must have not been Asian.
- inactive, on 06/17/2009, -2/+8Dugg for boobies.
- wbtittle, on 06/17/2009, -0/+6Seriously, this is what gives science a bad name. "Scientists" making idiotic statements like this. The results basically say "NOTHING HERE, MOVE ALONG".
- Barackalypse, on 06/17/2009, -0/+51/126 is 0.0079, so basically the probability increase of attending college due to breast feeding of 0.014 must be because of a single person in the 126 member sample size. Given the wide range of behaviors that affect that decision to attend college and given we're talking about a single person as the reason for the increased probability, I have to conclude an extra month of breastfeeding is statisically irrelevant.
- DouglasQ, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6Wait a sec, you're one of those girl type people.
- cambob76, on 06/17/2009, -0/+5so what happened to yours?
- Bugsy33, on 06/17/2009, -1/+6How many times will this issue come up. It isn't that breast feeding is necessarily any better than formula, it's that smarter parents usually breast feed their kids. This was on 60 minutes a while ago.
- EggAndMuffin, on 06/17/2009, -0/+4Stacy the exam is coming up let me suck your *****
- andrewlotta, on 06/17/2009, -2/+6Why do I always laugh at Meet The Parents jokes?
Myself and every person I know has seen the movie over 9000 times.
Can I start a sentence with myself? - BoneheadFarker, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3@GamerXR72
With the rise of obesity, that path is taken more often. Still not as fun though... - seshetaofegypt, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Figures for sophomoric comments. Breastfeeding is superior, we all know that. And yes, it does the human body well in all areas, including the lobes of the brain. However, that would be during the developmental years.Apparently, some of the commentors lacked something during that time period in their infant through toddler stage.
- kefkaantakrist, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Well you've been brainwashed pretty good, haven't you? The S909 they refer to:
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-s909/show
It is a bill to provide federal dollars to states and municipalities in order to help them fight hate crimes - that is crimes committed BECAUSE OF the victim's race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability or sexual orientation. "Pedophile" is not a sexual orientation, nor is "prostitute". You might argue that they are, but even if you make a good argument, you know for damn sure the cops on the beat are not going to interpret it that way.
BTW - why would you attack someone *because he is* a pedophile? That's ridiculous. It's a disease, and people have it. Now, attacking someone *because he acted on* his pedophilia is totally different. If he molested your son, you didn't attack him because he is a pedophile, you attacked him because he molested your son. Further, before it can be a hate crime it has to be a crime, and what cop is really going to arrest a parent for attacking someone who molested his son? - itsthehumidity, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Even aside from that, it's still just an "association" which, really, is correlative. I would imagine that the types of mothers who breast feed are also nurturing in other ways to their children, which probably fosters confidence and the psychological freedom to pursue academic goals.
Edit: Spuy767 basically said the same thing, which I see now. I suppose I should RTFCs - offrdbandit, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4But it's SCIENCE!
- LiquidIse, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3Because it certainly isn't insinuated here. And they have hardly even established a correlation.
0.019/4 = 0.475% - inactive, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3These comments "suck"
- portnoy, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3That explains what happened to me in college. That's when I switched to beer. :(
- christoast, on 06/17/2009, -1/+4It would be cool if there was a digg branch (maybe diggjournals.com) where its just scientific studies. Id go.
- slyzxx, on 06/17/2009, -0/+3hmmm.. all i think about is the boob song now thanks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8F8dJUuVAs - kh99, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2You are basing you comments on a newspaper article and not the journal article, and it's not even the full newspaper article. If you search for the longer article you will find that they in fact are aware that they have not proven causation, and that they used siblings to remove other factors such as a difference in family structure. What we really have is a never ending assumption of digg commenters that they know more than the scientists doing the studies when they don't even have all the information.
- harrypowers, on 06/17/2009, -1/+3Focus people.
- Sharkky, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2I'll drink to that!
- skc0der, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Wait, what do the Jews have to do with pedophiles?
Nothing, and you're a dumb ***** that needs to stop blaming other people for living in your parent's basement. Get a job and a girlfriend you pathetic piece of sh-t, you sorely need it. - nightsweat, on 06/17/2009, -2/+4They make you pretty smart afterwards, too. Do you know how much brainpower has been expended working out how to obtain access to a pair? It's like a mental treadmill.
- pseudononymist, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2i don't think this has anything to do with cum
- Mothrog, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Right, which is another reason the study's probably wrong... The never ending assumption of people that create these so-called studies that correlation implies causation, something someone who calls themself a scientist should be well aware of.
- mparker21311, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2Women get horny when they breastfeed... did you know that? lulz
- DharmaT, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2I don't get it.
- flyingsquirle, on 06/17/2009, -0/+2play with boobs=smarter
