- sargeras, on 09/05/2008, -5/+118wow, that is just stupid as *****. If rape is such a huge problem, the only solution is to punish the women, right? right?
Morons. - mediaphile, on 09/05/2008, -1/+67It's kind of a ***** situation. I mean, it's not like the women can control the men in that society. They're just doing what they can to reduce their chances of getting raped. It's an inhumane answer to an inhumane problem. I wouldn't call it stupid, I would call it desperate.
The moral of the story is, be glad you were raised in a society that's lucky enough to view this practice as stupid. - matrixbandit, on 09/05/2008, -1/+53That comment is both inappropriate and hilarious; in equal parts by my measure.
- Zaggynl, on 09/05/2008, -0/+29Education, education, education..
- peestandingup, on 09/05/2008, -4/+30But, what if the gentleman caller is an ass man??
- Kyrgizion, on 09/05/2008, -4/+29In Islamic countries, women are supposed to wear veils not for themselves, but because it is considered "normal" that a man cannot control himself if he sees an unveiled female. Which is essentially shifting blame, of course.
Which is also the reason why raped girls and women will be executed/caned/stoned while the actual rapists usually get off the hook with a few whiplashes. - hansondr, on 09/05/2008, -1/+21"The skin is removed in order to children cannot masturbate."
Well if that is the intention let me be the first circumcised digger to say the procedure is an epic fail.
/fap - gothelium, on 09/05/2008, -2/+20God, it's scary as hell to think of what it would be like if my mother had done that to me. I can't understand how any mother would encourage breast ironing or female genital mutilation. Even ignoring that they're causing pain and inhibiting pleasure when they finally ARE of the proper age for a husband, how could you want your daughter to end up hating their body? I mean *****, teenage girls here freak out if they have acne, imagine having damaged breasts for the rest of your life.
- inkhead, on 09/05/2008, -1/+19That's not even bad, they still circumcise women in those countries. It involves cutting off the clitoris..
- mattlohkamp, on 09/05/2008, -7/+24I know the US can be just as bad about male circumcision (bury this because it's an accepted cultural norm?) but this is pretty freaking disgusting. You know that stereotype about people in Africa being totally uncivilized and barbaric? It's ***** like this that leads to that.
- ceredron, on 09/05/2008, -3/+19That's really ***** up. It's almost... necessary, though, in the eyes of the Africans, cause if the girls get adolescent, then they get raped?
What a messed up place. - kywy, on 09/05/2008, -0/+16If raping is the problem perhaps something else should be ironed and not from girls.
Although only thinking about it it hurts :-) - tapeworm77, on 09/05/2008, -2/+17Inappropriate, commas.
- lkhiles, on 09/05/2008, -0/+14the biggest problem is not that very young women don't have access to birth control, which is true they don't, but rather that they are getting raped at 9 years old and even younger. Young boys need to be taught about sex rights for women not sex education. Giving birth control to young girls just gives the men in their villages a better position to rape a young child if he knows that she will not get pregnant. Essentially the only evidence would be disease that will continue to spread and the only way to stop that is with condoms. Unfortunately, I can't see that if a man is willing to rape a 9 year old little girl how they would be willing to put a condom on. The whole situations is just ***** up.
- mattlohkamp, on 09/05/2008, -1/+14dude, birth control is not a rape deterrent.
- Samsauce, on 09/05/2008, -16/+29Folks we give you, breast ironing! From the makers of, bone through nose.
- MacBookForMe, on 09/05/2008, -0/+13Poor innocent children/girls!
- PaulRay, on 09/05/2008, -0/+13Yeah, but no oil. We only Liberate for oil.
- rattleme, on 09/05/2008, -0/+13It's definitely worse than circumcision. It's not performed as a way to keep men in line and control them. It has very slight health benefits, though that might not justify it entirely. In any case, men still live to have normal sex lives. It's ***** different.
- mediaphile, on 09/05/2008, -0/+11Circumcision isn't causing abscesses, infections, dissymmetry, cysts, or the complete disappearance of one's penis. In other words, it's not even on the same level, medically speaking.
- diggenerate, on 09/05/2008, -6/+17Maybe they should turn to mandatory birth control and better sex education among the young, I know it sound harsh to force birth control but it would certainly help with the overpopulation and with young girls getting pregnant and is much less of a "punishment" and not likely to permanently injure the girls.
- jellygraph, on 09/05/2008, -6/+16Male circumcision is vastly different than any of this. It doesn't change your enjoyment in life or sex. It's just a piece of skin. Its just merely an aesthetic change.
No, I don't agree that anyone should force babies to be circumcised and should be a private matter for the parents to decide. But there is _no_ comparison between male circumcision and mutilating a womans body, such that she is unable to orgasm or breast feed or even just feel attractive to herself and others. Making the comparison is just ridiculous. - cerajim, on 09/05/2008, -3/+12Some of these comments boggle the mind.
"Sex education" - How the heck is education going to deter a rapist. Get real.
"Condoms" - Oh that should help. Then they will be conscientious rapists.
"Female Rights" - I can hear the rapists now. "Ooooohhhh, my bad, I didn't realize they had rights too.
Come on people, get your head out of your butt. Swift, severe punishment is what is needed. Yes we need to educate the young men and change their mindset. Obviously their behavior is passed down from previous generations or it wouldn't be so cultural prevalent. - Kyrgizion, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9@khatarnaak
If you read my post closely, you will see that I referenced "Islamic countries", not "Islam" or its origins itself. It's ingrained in their culture, and is essentially detached from religion if you so want it to be. - mediaphile, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10@Viriatus2:
Uh, you sir are incredibly mistaken. Masturbation is alive and well with circumcised children. - mediaphile, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9I agree that generalizing Cameroon as Africa is a mistake.
But the fact is, if breast ironing is causing so many dangerous medical conditions, it IS different than the various western practices you list. All of the practices you list are voluntary. No one is forcing their nine year old to get breast implants and Botox injections. In fact, here in the West, there are laws prohibiting such practices from being performed on minors. And while I agree that circumcision is an antiquated practice, in this day and age there are no benefits one way or another for getting or not getting circumcised. Abortion, at least chemical abortion, is fairly safe at this point. And "deadly botulism" is no longer deadly in the form of Botox. So while I understand that you want to compare unnatural practices, it's naive to suggest that this involuntary and dangerous practice of breast ironing is on the same level as the legal practices here in the West. - multifacet3d, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Yes of course, because after all; the people would never know what's best for them. . . only the government.

- colourclassic, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9Oh the Irony...
- peestandingup, on 09/05/2008, -8/+16My ass its not. You just feel that way cause its the norm here. It's basically a tradition passed down from fathers who have been cut to their sons. We're basically the only country that does it for non-religious beliefs. And dont give me that "for cleanliness" ***** argument. Do you go a month without washing your dick??
Foreskin is there for a reason. You don't just chop it off cause you feel like it. Its a barbaric ritual & not far off from what these people do to their young. Both need to be outlawed IMO. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10Sometimes we don't realize how good we have it in our country (US, Most European Countries, Canada, etc.)...
- BoneheadFarker, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Necessary? In that case, why not castrate the boys they believe will grow up to be rapists? Not only will this prevent many rape cases long before they happen, the ones left with their balls intact will be on their absolute best behaviour...
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -2/+9You should definitely be calling this stupid as well. You've simply elaborated a little on it.
- khatarnaak, on 09/05/2008, -3/+10Ok, let's set the record straight. The veil, or the head cover, is a remnant of Judaeo-Christian tradition. It was customary for Jewish woman to go out in public with a head covering which, sometimes, even covered the whole face leaving one eye free. Read some of Rabbi Dr. Menachem M. Brayer's literature for more information.
With regards to Christianity, I give you I Corinthians 11:3-10 by St. Paul in the New Testament.
Now, back to Islam, if you actually *read* the Qur'an, nowhere will you find that God commands the womenfolk to wear a veil or head-dress. The wearing of such clothing has continued by means of tradition and propagated, quite erroneously, by the Islamic hierarchy as being Islamic.
Hope this helps. - an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Ah- the anti-circumcision movement here on DIgg. I've never understood you guys.
- Kyrgizion, on 09/05/2008, -6/+12Rape is essentially a way of life in Africa.
I'm a proponent of turning the whole damn continent in one big wildlife park. NO HUMANS ALLOWED.
They only ***** up the place anyways... - eschompthis, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6how about we just chop the guys ***** off instead?
- SteveLRowe, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6The local belief is that raping a virgin will cure AIDS and the cycle continues...

- barrywmartin, on 09/05/2008, -5/+11Amen brother. I am so glad that someone made this comment. It amazes me how the US can continue the barbaric practice of male circumcision. I would never bury this comment. Hats off to you and please keep spreading the word. Dugg.
- GreatSunJester, on 09/05/2008, -3/+9"...a man cannot control himself if he sees an unveiled female..."
Substitute "animal" for "man" and you might be closer to the truth. As a "man" or more accurately "human", I am not controlled by my instincts. The sight of a naked female (though erotic!) does not drive me into uncontrolled need to mate. If islamic males ARE driven to rut by the mere sight of uncovered female flesh, it is possible that they are less intellectually human and more instinctually animal.
Not a pleasant thought really. After all, what human would be driven to riot and destroy by a simple cartoon? - xutopia, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7I had my foreskin removed after an infection at a later age than most people do. I can assure you it removed a lot of feeling down there.
- mediaphile, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7I don't see it as stupid at all. I see it as ignorance born of desperation. Stupidity is an active disbelief in one's ignorance; I believe these people are just trying to make a very bad situation better, and failing.
- shig, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Your answer to female mutilation is male mutilation?
