- oda1, on 10/14/2008, -0/+25NURSE: Mr. Hill, I've diagnosed your son with Attention Deficit Disorder. He's probably had it for years.
HANK HILL: What? Well, how come nobody ever noticed this before?
NURSE: Very few people have access to the pamphlets. I do. - buggles, on 10/13/2008, -2/+24They will always build a better idiot.
- paranoiabacon, on 10/13/2008, -0/+20It's not just that, it's also for the energy boost that you get for taking a derivative of methamphetamine (IIRC). Adderal, Ritalin, and the like are some of the most frequently abused drugs at my school.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -2/+17Your son, if he has Aspergers, doesn't need to take *****. Kids are often not pleasant to watch, particularly when they're behaving exactly as what they are.
- one2gamble, on 10/14/2008, -2/+16Thats how kids get through college these days, that and cocaine.
- manjas8, on 10/14/2008, -1/+13I take Adderall every day. The first time I took it it was like an entire part of my brain just started working for the first time ever. A lot of people do abuse it, but for some it's actually necessary.
I'm an absolute space cadet without it. - XxpokemasterxX, on 10/13/2008, -0/+12Stuff like this worked for me in high school. The only problem was that it also caused cardiac arrhythmia. 0_0
- Dumbledorito, on 10/14/2008, -0/+12Trust me: Your problems aren't caused by water.
- wreckosaurus, on 10/14/2008, -0/+11"A friend gave me a drug for attention deficit disorder, because he's afflicted, but I'm not. So what happened to me is I suddenly had an extra-long attention span. People would tell me a story, and it would end, and I'd get all mad. "Come on, man, there has to be more to that story."
-mitch - GordonFree, on 10/14/2008, -1/+12You're dugg down because you make people angry. The truth annoys them. Makes them want to take pills
- kevinmotel, on 10/14/2008, -11/+21Am I the only person left who doesn't pop pills?! If I need to focus, I play classical music or jazz. A pill for everything. The American Dream lives on. Good grief.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+10I'll just say this once: There's a "usenet" sort of thing going on here; a whole slew of chemical compounds that are entirely under the DEA and AMA's radar; and they're trivial to purchase legally in the US. I'm talking about the Nootropic compounds, like piracetam, phenylpiracetam, pyritinol, etc. I will not sing the praises of any of these compounds; the names of three of them are enough for anyone to do the appropriate research.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/14/2008, -1/+11So when is modafonil going to be available in vending machines, dammit?
- chilidbz, on 10/14/2008, -2/+11Psh, you're just mad because you're not in the cool kid club.
- Poochy818, on 10/14/2008, -1/+10You can't cure stupid.
But you can certainly put it in fifth gear. =D - JohnnyRad, on 10/14/2008, -1/+10Adderal + 19th Century European Art History final = college graduate
- glenneroo, on 10/14/2008, -0/+8Substance D anybody?
reminds me a bit of A Scanner Darkly. - inactive, on 10/14/2008, -2/+10Adderol is the most abused drug on college campuses (besides alcohol, of course).
- raublekick, on 10/14/2008, -0/+8I used Adderal in high school a few times. While it did make me more focused on the busy work stuff, it made a social zombie. So classes like Physics were made easier, but classes that involved discussion were much, much harder. Plus the after school come down made me terribly moody and made me want to avoid my family.
Yeah, it has its benefits, but the obvious change in my mood and behavior (for the worse) made me really think about the cost of what I was doing. - ShuttleDisaster, on 10/14/2008, -0/+6I was actually prescribed adderall to counteract the effects of another drug (which makes me very tired all the time), and it actually works pretty well. I am in college, and mentioned to my doctor how a lot of people are using it during study times, to write papers, etc., and I asked him what the risks were of doing this.
Surprisingly, he said its perfectly acceptable to take a drug like adderall whenever you want, without much risk of any adverse effects. - Teddsy, on 10/13/2008, -10/+15What worries me is the long term side effects of this, my son has Aspergers and HAS to take certain similar but stronger drugs and i can assure you its not pleasant to watch. BEWARE!!
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+5dugg so the comment doesn't get buried and other people can read it and laugh like I did.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/14/2008, -0/+5I think it's in part because of how many drugs are illegal. Our black market is pretty impressive in that area. I'd guess that a lot of the drugs are actually coming through the mail from other countries, into the hands of students in the us though. There's an old joke by Mitch Hedberg, something like "I like the UPS man. Because he's a drug dealer and doesn't know it."
- bman1984, on 10/14/2008, -2/+6Are you insinuating there was no speed in colleges in the 60s?
street benzedrine and amphetamines have been replaced by prescription amphetamines and more recently methylphenidate, ephedrine, all the sorts
same junk, different pile - GarrettGrimsley, on 10/14/2008, -2/+6Cripples don't deserve crutches.
- willsani, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4There was yet another article that discussed some of the nation's top scientists admitting to using Ritalin (aka Baby cocaine) to help them focus.
- GarrettGrimsley, on 10/14/2008, -1/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nootropics
- defy, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4And then he ate her brain.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/14/2008, -0/+4@Dumbledorito
I couldn't believe that the last time I was sick. I bought some OTC medicine, and couldn't figure out why 'nothing' was happening. Then checked the ingredients. Depending on where I live, I think I could get actual meth easier than working nyquil. I had to go to two different pharmacies to find out that even sold the real stuff. - danesis, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3I take Ginkgo Biloba pills in the morning, helps me concentrate and works wonders.
- Harbinger67, on 10/14/2008, -1/+4Ironic how people are on a quest to get more "brain power" when nobody is doing jack ***** with the brains they already have.
- one2gamble, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3not at all
- RobotBuddha, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3@nj10ii
The next iteration really isn't that great. Mostly it'll just save you having to take a followup dose later in the day. I think 90% of the motivation behind releasing it is simply because generic modafinil is going to go into the US market soon. The next generation of the molecule is looking to be pretty amazing though. - dystra, on 10/14/2008, -1/+4proud to be prescription free.
- Hetman, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3With out adderal half of this years graduating college class would have either dropped out or require two more years to graduate.
- nirav72, on 10/14/2008, -1/+4Ritalin = Cocaine with a PG rating. - House M.D
- gigibachorski, on 10/14/2008, -1/+4Pills don't help you in an inadequate education system
- raublekick, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3Pretty much. My emotional range was paper thin. I remember some girl telling a joke, and my brain saying to me "that joke is funny", but I couldn't laugh.
- TVarmy, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3You know, once Ritalin goes over the counter, they are going to put it in everything. It'll be the new caffeine. They'll get around legal issues by selling the foods as "dietary supplimants."
- rohmann, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3I guess this is evidence that when people can finally start upgrading their hardware, they'll do so. Eventually you'll fall behind if you don't.
- SolubleFish, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3What many people fail to realize is that taking adderal leads to cleaning, tidying up, and other forms of distraction when you should be studying.
"Ok, I've got all my notes... but wait, I can't study when it's this messy!" - CarStan, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3why is it so easy for you to get at drugs in america?
My mother had serious depressions 2 years ago, and it did take her nearly 3 months of being send from doctor to expert to physician to get the medication (and unless many of the kids in the USA, she really needed them). But even then, she was very catious to not take them unneccessary, as no to get addicted.
Here in Germany it would be nearly impossible for a teen to get their hands on something like ritalin or something like that, without really, really needing it. - RobotBuddha, on 10/14/2008, -1/+4If I need to get drunk, I take a sip of rich, sparkling, bottled water! Seriously, the state brought on by these drugs can't be compared to listening to music.
- RobotBuddha, on 10/14/2008, -0/+3@glenneroo
It's not natural to have caffeine in your system either. We've seen there's not much in the way of long term complications there though. Whether it's natural or not isn't a very good predictor of how good something will be for us. Keep in mind that death and general age associated mental deterioration is natural. I'm happy for potential to move away from that nature. - nj10ii, on 10/14/2008, -1/+3they are coming out with a new and improved version now too, I can't wait....
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -1/+3Wow..omigosh. That's just the most awesome solution ever! Boost brain power by drinking water! YOU'VE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD THERE!
Bell. - Maratanos, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2Increasing numbers of people are absolute morons.
- freeridstylee, on 10/14/2008, -1/+3I'd rather everyone be abusing this then other drugs (pot, heroine, downers in general). At least people are productive.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/14/2008, -0/+2I sincerely doubt that will happen. You can't even purchase ephedra-based cold remedies (the ones that actualy work) without ID and other rigamarole.
