- wonderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So basically, if you can't see your feet, you are more likely to have heart disease. Gee, ya think?
- iluvspokane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7WOW! I'm amazed. These scientists are really doing amazing work.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6And big ***** are tied to more men staring at a woman's chest.
- manfrin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Next, the researchers hope to prove that water is wet.
- cdlavalle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"Our next research project will probably focus on the link of fat asses to heart disease. We would go for double chins/heart disease link but we don't want to get too risky. Better to be right than useful when it comes to getting future grants." *satire*
- nickerbocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Here's how.
http://www.digg.com/how - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When the next ice age hits all those fatties are the ones that are going to survive it-- so they will have the last laugh.
- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No ***** ***** Sherlock! I'm so glad Yahoo News was able to bring me this groundbreaking story.
- casualfreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The caption below the Reuters photo, "An overweight woman is seen in London..." reads like something from a collection anthropological oddities.
- nightchrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can be of fairly normal weight/size, or just approaching being overweight and still have considerable fat around your stomach, because the vast majority of it is internal. Typically it's the fat inside which is more dangerous to your health than the flab on the surface which makes you look bad.
- milkmage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...seems obvious when you read the headline. but if you RTFA - this is the interesting part. how do you have a "belly" if you are normal weight?
"Within BMI categories, the researchers found, heart disease risk rose with SAD; even among men of normal weight, heart disease risk was higher for those with bigger bellies." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's "news" because it links a certain body shape/type to increased heard disease. Just because it may not apply to you doesn't make it less important.
FTA: even among men of normal weight, heart disease risk was higher for those with bigger bellies. - pharmd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's called the Metabolic Syndrome
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolic_syndrome - malicious88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is why I love digg. Everyone is always on the "why are we being forced to read this redundant *****" bandwagon practically before it gets posted.
- pferdestarke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was hoping they'd isolate big bellies by blocking for other variables like a fat elsewhere in the body.. None of that. And, BMI has been trashed for eons now... please say something new.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This doctor must be from Acme University....
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have to use a picture of an overweight woman in London just for this article....
- howea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's actually been linked to respiratory problems. Especially if you are under one.
- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I did RTFA, and that in itself is nothing new. Again, No ***** Sherlock. I think the NEJoM published a study about "belly" fat back a decade ago.
- Drood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good grief, what a retarded "news" story.
Next up on Yahoo: Those who don't breathe tend to live shorter lives! - resplence, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for ruining the fun.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1>> how do you have a "belly" if you are normal weight?
haven't u been to america?
on a serious note, normal != ideal. - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Since it's of a woman, I really *wish* it was more like a rare oddity. ;-)
- Hush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No they won't, they are gonna become my survival food.
- JesusIsSatan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know what they are talking about because I have one. I'm relatively muscular, but I have a beer gut that noticeably juts out. But everywhere else on my body, I'm normal.
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if they don't die of heart disease first
- fotodevil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry, Yahoo, but this is not new news. Regardless, it is still good for people to know the risk.
- fotodevil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think it is because sometimes these articles are being presented as if the information is new and groundbreaking, when in fact it is just old news. But if you don't want to read it again, then don't. No one is "forcing" anyone to read something.
- woodchuckrules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh Oh!!
- YourMom1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How does this stuff get to the front page?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2yeah I second the "no ***** sherlock" type comment
- ryland2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@siliconskater
Just because the "digg it" extension put "-Yahoo! News" their for you, it is really an unnecessary addition to the title. - cybersnafu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Breaking news! Scientists are reporting that gravity is, in fact, the leading cause of seniors falling over and being unable to get up. Details at eleven.
