- Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14"American beer is a lot like making love on a boat. It's ***** close to water."
~Eric Idle - nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They missed the most important statistic of all, the beer with the highest alcohol%/calorie.
Winner:
Milwaukee's Best Light: .0459%/calorie
Loser (excl. non-alcoholic):
Sam Adams Cream Stout: .0241%/calorie - davidaq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10nice idea, but it would be good to see a similar list for more quality European beers. Most of the brands here aren't worth drinking
- ismokedope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I don't really care about the calories, the alcohol percentage is good to know!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+999 brands of beer on the wall, 99 brands of beer... take one down, pass it around...
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Money's too short to drink good beer.
- Praetorius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Save calories with light beer and lose my dignity? No thanks. Life's too short to drink bad beer.
- jrusso9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Great Digg! I am printing it right now. For a person with diabetes this really rocks. Thanks for posting it.
- kapsar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Actually the Sierra Nevada Stout takes it at 210.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11whats the point of watching calorie intake....life is to short to do that. theres about 4 billion other ways you can die so just have some fun while you can.
- mattsidesinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The list says 103 Calories and the bottle in front of me here at work says 64 ... the list is wrong ... and awfully blurry.
- DontSayFanboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4a good bartender will serve me what I order. I don't know what is wrong with your mouth if you can't tell the difference between stella and bud
- SurlyDuff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"whatever pint means"?....either you've never been to a bar or you live in a religiously metric country.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Whoa, looks like Sierra Nevada takes the cake at 200 calories. I would have thought the top would be a stout or something.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7This list wasn't made for beer snobs, it was made for the vast majority of people who have never even heard of Leffe, Chimay, or Pilsener Urquell.
- Cory70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yay now i know how fat iam getting while i drink.
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually most stouts have the LEAST calories. Just because a beer is dark doesn't mean it's full of calories. Typically stouts (e.g., Guinness) are lower in alcohol content. They use smoked malts which produce less sugar during germination resulting in lower alcohol content and fewer calories.
One of my favorite Guinness billboards was something like:
"Guinness. 126 calories, 10 g carbs. We didn't do it on purpose." - Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"And what's the deal with the razorblade slot in the airplane bathroom? Are people actually shaving in there?"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+14yeah OK tubby.
- nadadingsda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The title should be 98 beers and Bud Light.
- Netmindstorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Call Bud, Coors and Keystone (made by Coors) beer is an insult to water.
- nixonrichard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3People who are snobs about beer don't realize why people drink cheap, watery beer.
1: It's cheap, so you can afford a 30-pk to get ***** up
2: It's watery, so you can drink an entire 30-pk to get ***** up - TimeForGuinness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3mmmmm...Guinness
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well... I weighed 280 and didn't like how I looked or my weight (not that I cared *too* much but whatever) so I watched the calories, cut the sugar and went to calorie-free pops and just ate less calorie-moster snacks. Droped 20 pounds in just over a month or so.
Yes, you can put it back on EXTREMELY easily but that's only if you start eating like a pig again... - SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Ack. American beers. I'll pass thanks. Let me know when real beer is on the list.
We all know Canadian beer is like moonshine compared to american beer. :p - BenFaist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wow, I should should take this to the bar with me...oh wait....I am not a pussy
- eurofooty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Good to know. I should print this out and take with me on my next pub visit.
- synae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4microbrew ftw
- cheato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've got 99 problems but a beer ain't one.
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd pick Guinness long before Sam Adams. Especially now with that stupid commercial they play and over and over. As if putting a lot of hops in has something to do with quality.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why snob? These beers I mentioned cost the same and are as available as most of the other imported beers in that list.
- jms38, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2New Castle?
- BigSlacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How to know clueless beer snobs: They list they're preference by country. We just laugh at them and go back to a real discussion about beer.
- Tourney3p0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It comes in pints? I'm getting one.
- brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Sam Adams Utopia 25.5% (avg) which is illegal to sell in 14 states. Now that's a beer. Great brewery tour too."
I'd rather save my $400 and live with the 4.5% drop, plus I get carbonation and hop flavor, too. - LowRentDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Red Hook is decent
- LowRentDiggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+299% of the people who say this have never had anything but Anheiser-Busch/Coors and Molson/Labatts.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1re: "whatever pint means."
I understand where you're coming from. A lot of bars will refer to their glasses as "pint glasses," but that's only in shape, not in content. Those glasses are actually just 12 ounces, robbing you of four glorious ounces of beer. I would hope, however, that any official source listing a pint would be measuring 16oz. - Rivetgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1stela ftw. plus according to that its got no calories!
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People always talk down about American beers because they think all American beers are like Budweiser, Miller or Busch. America has a growing and striving microbrew industry that I think rivals and maybe surpasses good imports. And when I say "good imports", I don't mean Heinekin or Corona. I mean Belgian, German and UK beers like Chimay, Unibroue, Corsendonk and Huyghe. Want examples? Try anything from Dogfish Head, Rogue, Stone, Weyerbacher, Ommegang or Allagash. Admittedly, many are Belgian-style, but many are pure lagers and ales. Want to find some? Try http://www.beeradvocate.com and search your local zip code.
- TheFrapper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3American beer is like...
having sex in a canoe...
***** close to water :)
credit goes to Mojo - 2 Sheets (great show btw) - montrey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*Pans through to see highest alc. content in which beer.
Nice 6.1 time to get wasted - Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I find it interesting that the "cheerleader beer" or "bitch beer" drinks have the most calories by far.
If only they knew. - littlesaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except that one of the pathways your liver uses to remove the "poison" results in glucose which happens to be very high in calories ;-) This is also why you get hungry at 2AM. To much sugar gets in your system and spikes your insulin levels. The calories on the label are residual carbs from the fermenting/distilling process. They do not include the extra glucose the liver may produce while metabolizing the alcohol.
- Tourney3p0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) You're recommending we "smoke alcohol". That about sums it up.
2) If you want to get drunk in 2 minutes, you probably have a drinking problem. Alcoholics don't get drunk because they enjoy the social aspect. Alcoholics drink to get drunk.
3) Beer does not taste like *****. Perhaps the beers you've tried do, but that only means you've been drinking the wrong beers. I can only assume that you're easily swayed by marketing. Hint: Coors does not actually allow you to "taste the rockiess". The fact that you believed them leads us back to number 1:
1) Do not smoke alcohol. - kapsar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Go try Dogfish head 120 min IPA. That's bottled at 20% and keeps fermenting. Barley Wine Ales all have some where around 12% abv.
- Guydevice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What's dangerous is that your body doesn't register these liquid calories; you can drink well past your caloric limit. (vodka ftw)
- DeadPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice find thanks...
Remember its only 99 brands. I think they were focusing on the brands that their target readers (U.S college students) would most likely consume.
I sell beer and the two lowest in terms of cal. I have seen are Beck's Light and Mikes Hard Lemonade Light. Both of which I believe sacrifice alc. for cals.
I think the one with the most calories I have had is Paulaner Salvator. I think that weighs in at 250 or so with an alc. of 7%+.
Enjoyed in moderation calories shouldn't be a concern in your beer selection. If your looking to over imbibe then I guess this list will come in handy keeping your fat ass a little lighter and maybe a little more sober. - ubuwalker31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For terms of calorie counting, I've been using 190 kcals for all beer, since I drink a wide assortment of beer. If you want the exact figures, check out the company's website, or send the company an email asking about calorie information.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4No beer list is a respectable list if it doesn't include Leffe, Chimay and Pilsener Urquell.
