- Todd Barry- merper, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2...Still waiting for a punchline. Cause fruit doesn't suck.
- borneo66, on 03/25/2008, -0/+16Surprise! It's almost entirely fruits and vegetables!
Less meat + lots of fresh fruit and vegetables + whole grains = great health! It's not too complicated, folks! - robbiemuffin, on 03/25/2008, -2/+3buried for being the least news-like thing since the recent discovery that the earth is round, no scratch that, that it exists.

No, seriously. How many vegans do you know? They look like that cat up the street that stopped eating in 1970 and somehow still staggers out to the porch every day.- TomJoad, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1im 5'10 and 165 pounds. damn hummus and vegan brownies can really put on some weight

- ehrensw, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1I was with you for the first couple, I even said to myself "self, I had no idea so many things combat cancer" but after a while it was just silly. Source please, on any of those claims. Fresh fruit and vegetables are obviously better than candy and pizza and pop, but seriously? I CALL SHENANIGANS!
- Rikkochet, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3Was it me or did the captions seem like they were written by a child? Peculiar for NBC...

- eccles30, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Wait a minute!? Fruit and veges are good for you!? Why didn't anyone TELL me!!!!
- DiggCommando, on 03/25/2008, -0/+6These foods all have something in common, they have low to no amounts of complex sugars. Bananas do have higher amounts of starch (a complex sugar) when the are not ripe enough but it is turned into fructose during the ripening process. Honey is also a simple sugar and is one of the most amazing foods known to man. It makes a wonderful alternative to refined sugar. Some real peanut butter mixed with a bit of honey in a small container and eaten with a spoon makes a good alternative to all those peanut flavored candies that people love (cheaper too!).
You want to eat well? Shop in the outside perimeter of the supermarket (for the most part), avoid manufactured food-like products that contain ingredients your grandmother would not recognize. Train your palette to enjoy a lower degree of sweetness, experiment with some vegetable, fish, etc recipies from epicurious or foodtv and you will discover a whole world of new flavors.
Although different people have different tolerances for the various types of crap we call food today, a good rule of thumb / logical line of reasoning is the following: Most of the evolution of the human species took place before agriculture, and all but the last 60 years or so took place before the mass manufacturing of food-like products from corn, soy and wheat. Favor in your diet the foods that made our ancestors thrive, what was available to the foraging folk.
I Dugg this up not because it is particularly educational but because I agree with every single one of their food choices, and they happen to make up a very large part of my diet.- deltron, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3Very well said, I must say. That's how I look at eating a "clean" diet as most put it. Our ancestors weren't eating Twinkeys and Big Mac's...
- ISIfunded911, on 03/25/2008, -0/+3This conference by Russel Blaylock, M.D., can boost anyone's motivation to eat sanely:
http://www.livevideo.com/video/ConspiracyCentral/1 ...
It is about the impact of nutrition on the brain and behavior. Fascinating and scary! The food industry is even more criminal than I would have thought. Fat, cancer...and now our behavior, feelings,...By the way, that is what happened in Super Size Me: his health went down the sink, but so did his morale and libido!
- stutimandal, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2A good list from a very recent article included the following:
1) Avocadoes, 2) Black beans, 3) Broccoli, 4) Tomatoes, 5) Strawberries, 6) Water-melon, and so on. - krc1, on 03/25/2008, -0/+2Be careful, if you eat foods simultaneously that "block diarrhea" and "prevent constipation", you could explode.
- Burrito, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Only on Digg does a slideshow of fruits and vegetables get 54 comments. Damn, 55.
- mattyshake, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1I wish I was rich enough to eat those foods everyday.
- ISIfunded911, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1One more reason to start a revolution and replace capitalism with a sane society.
- bariswheel, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1Pick up The China Study.
- Serge157, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1To make it simple: meat, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetable and water, preferably distilled, and no processed food -- that's all we need.
- jindian, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1The picture with the caption about walnut salad actually shows pecans, not walnuts. Thats a silly mistake
- bshock, on 03/25/2008, -0/+1"Basic foods" -- you mean real foods, instead of that artificially flavored, artificially colored, artificially textured chemical sludge sold in convenience stores and fast food puketerias? Yeah, I guess "basic foods" would be better for you then.
- janiceelizabeth, on 03/26/2008, -0/+1I like it that they made healthy food look attractive - contrast that with a slideshow of burgers, pies, chocolate bars, Cola etc - all brown sludge
- sealone, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0very nice article
