- Palaskowitz, on 05/26/2009, -0/+26I'm 23 and quickly pulling a Hulk Hogan over here. Cure this ***** already.
- GregLoire, on 05/26/2009, -0/+22Both my grandfathers had full heads of hair, but my dad and half-brother are bald. When I was a kid I figured it didn't really matter where I got my genes from because they'd probably have a cure for it by the time it mattered anyway. Now I'm 25 and the hairline is definitely making a rapid retreat.
HURRY UP SCIENCE!! - JCEEZ, on 05/26/2009, -0/+11Being bald sucks. I look at pictures when I had hair, and I get sad.
- ScubaSt3ve, on 05/26/2009, -1/+11Let's kill those ***** balding mice, I knew it was them all along
- greenlight2001, on 05/26/2009, -0/+10I get more ass now than when I had hair.
- SpeedStix, on 05/26/2009, -0/+9This is great news for me. I have been living with Alopecia Universalis (total hair loss) for the passed 3 years. Hopefully something good comes from this.
- redrabbit, on 05/26/2009, -0/+8Gravity has been pulling my hair down to my chest and back since I've been like 17 years old :\
- sherif2, on 05/27/2009, -0/+8What amazes me is that they invented laser eye surgery before they figured out how to regrow hair. Really? A laser? Cutting open a flap on your cornea? Folding it back? Reshaping your eyeball? While you are awake? And you heal by the next day?!?! How they invented that before hair grow juice boggles my mind.
- asgardshill, on 05/26/2009, -0/+7Been there done that. Once you shave it, you never go back.
(And I've always been told that the male pattern baldness gene comes from Mom. She was a great lady but I could have done without that "gift".) - LightPhoenix, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7Here's the problem with mouse studies - things don't necessarily work the same way in mice as they do in humans.
For example, there was a big todo about how they figured out how to make obese mice (which are unbelievably cute) thin by giving them leptin. Of course, this was going to solve all human weight problems. Except, oh wait, in humans genetic obesity due to unresponsiveness to leptin is caused by a mutation in the leptin receptor, not in the protein itself. Oops.
The moral of the story is: just because something works in mice, in no way guarantees it will work in humans, even if the basics are the same. - GregLoire, on 05/27/2009, -0/+6Rogaine is only for thinning in the back, not for receding in the front. I did buy it once to try it out. The packaging advertises a 60% success rate from clinical trials. But if you read more closely, it also says that the control (placebo) group had a 40% success rate in these same trials.
So, yes, Rogaine is ADVERTISING that it essentially had a 20% success rate at regrowing "some" hair.
If Rogaine actually worked, there would not be bald people. Or at least not nearly as many. - FreddieD, on 05/27/2009, -0/+6No chance of this happening. Jean Luc Picard was bald and that's the 24th century!
- unradical, on 05/27/2009, -0/+6I used to say the same *****, being as my dad has had the old monk spot ever since I can remember. He'd always give me ***** like "this is what you'll inherit" when I cracked jokes about it, and I always responded with "by the time I start balding, they'll have figured out a cure." Man was I ***** wrong, science sucks ass these days.
- borez, on 05/26/2009, -0/+5Hair today, gone tomorrow.
- redrabbit, on 05/26/2009, -1/+5Women notice the lack of confidence, buddy. Don't worry about ***** that can't be helped and go work out or something.
- greenlight2001, on 05/26/2009, -1/+5Comes from both parents. And it's true, once you shave you never go back... mostly because there isn't anything to go back to... unless I want a comb over. :)
- Cebo, on 05/27/2009, -1/+5Every few weeks we get a "cancer cure gene", "balding cure gene", "AIDS cure gene" found news and never comes anything out of that grand discovery. So go ***** yourself with your false hopes.
- greenlight2001, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Bald in the front and a party in the back? Haha, your comment made me laugh, thanks.
I hear you... I started losing around 18 y/o and by 20 I decided '***** it' and started to shave my head. Surprising I had a good looking head that looks pretty nice shaved. Never went back (not that I have much to return to...). - dattaway, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Good. I look forward to the day when I don't have to shave anymore.
- zetsurin, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Millions of bald Chinese women are rejoicing.
- s4g4n, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3If when I get old I get a horse shoe hair I'll be shaving it all off.
- EricAnderton, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3Skullet?
- SpeedStix, on 05/27/2009, -0/+3Meh not really, I actually rock a pretty awesome bald head. Only downside is ALL hair is gone, including eyebrows and eyelashes. My gf doesn't seem to mind all the other areas. She actually complains that my legs are so smooth.
- damnshoes, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2maybe we should change our genes to become half mouse and half human?
So like, it's a win win situation. - perogi21, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I'd take total hair loss as opposed to looking like I'm wearing a sweater vest year round. (unless there's some weird side effect that I'm not aware of)
- damnshoes, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I thought it was too much testosterone in the male body for hair loss..heh, you learn something new everyday! O_o
- greenlight2001, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I'm outta hair.
- Rivetgeek, on 05/27/2009, -0/+2I agree with greenlight. I went from long hair to shaved head and i get WAY more play now.
- Taiyoryu, on 05/27/2009, -0/+2Isn't bald in, thanks to the likes of Jordan, Willis, and Agassi? Heck Patrick Stewart won TV Guide's "Sexiest Man on Television" in '92.
- trigisfun, on 05/27/2009, -0/+2"You mean the guy we're meeting with can't even grow his own hair? Come on!"
-G.O.B. Bluth - GregLoire, on 05/27/2009, -0/+2My maternal uncles have hair, but it does not work this way. You can get it from either side.
- darkangel1215, on 08/20/2009, -0/+1This post is awsome. Thanks!
- nodebtnow, on 08/28/2009, -0/+1A good and informational article.
- alieniiv, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Total hair loss in 14 days! Is this a particular breed of mice, or do they all carry the potential hair loss genes?
- shylove, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1then there is the story of the Three Bald Mice!!!
So what happened when the 3 blind mice ran into the three bald mice thrice while running through the wild bald mice rice???
Then Two blind mice ran into two bald mice twice while running through the wild rice!!!
Then one blind mouse ran into one bald mouse while running once around the house!!! - CanuckPenguin, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1Yes, now you know that it's mouse genes that cause baldness. How they got into the human genome I don't want to even imagine!
What's so bad about being bald? Maybe if people learned to accept themselves as they are then they might just be happier with their lives. Of course some self-improvement is good such as education or exercise to get into shape. People don't need to have the "perfect" body or head of hair. - shylove, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1then there is the story of the Three Bald Mice!!!
So what happened when the three blind mice ran into three bald mice thrice while running through the wild rice???
Then Two blind mice ran into two bald mice twice while running through the mild rice!!!
Then one blind mouse ran into one bald mouse while running once around the house!!! - Kaphoen, on 06/14/2009, -0/+1A great submission to Digg. Clearly the author writes with a great deal of clarity and passion.
I found a particular resonance with the observation... "Between day 20 and day 25, these mice eventually lost all of their body hair, including the whiskers. Intriguingly, new hair regrowth was initiated a few days later but was followed by renewed hair loss." - Rivetgeek, on 05/27/2009, -1/+2Nope. But then again I never watched ***** sitcoms
- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1No kidding. I remember they announced a cure was found for baldness about 20 years ago and said it would be available in five years. That would have been 15 years ago. We're still waiting. I think they make this ***** up on slow news day just to have something to print. I'm not holding my breath.
- redrabbit, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1I always thought Mom's father.
- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1If you're rich and a celebrity hair loss doesn't matter one bit. Money + fame + power = babes. For the rest of us, not so much.
- IronDonut, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1Three bald mice?

http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum - sndream, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1Holy $h1t, the hairless mice look like something from a horror movie.
- Phu5ion, on 05/27/2009, -0/+0Yes, because "no matter what the deformity you'll find some group of perverts attracted to it".
- jimbodeenie, on 05/27/2009, -0/+0If this works out, everyone will soon have full heads of hair and the few bald guys that are left will then be the exotic sexy force in society. Yes George Costanza will be a Playboy.
- jenmcintire, on 09/04/2009, -0/+0It is really interesting that a balding pattern found in mice could be seen in human boys. It makes sense that hair loss found in mice would be similar to guys because they both have hair that is capable of falling out. The gene SOx21 is responsible for the prevention of hair loss in mice and surprisingly in humans as well. It is interesting that they found this particular gene in both people and mice and it is responsible for hair conditions and growth. Alopecia does affect many men and some women and the results from this study should be very beneficial for those that are struggling with their hair problems. It seems from their studies in Japan that heavy sweat glands and thickened layers of cells on the skin have a result on whether hair falls out of the follicles or not. It is scary that their findings found that the mice lost their whiskers as well as all of their hair on their tails. Even though they did have new hair growth present after a few days it still fell out and they continued to suffer with this condition. Hopefully this finding will help others that are experiencing these type of problems in the future and change the way hair loss affects all people, including men and women. Especially since some guys in their late twenties deal with hair loss on a regular basis and have no way of coping with it in an efficient manner.
