- anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -3/+18Good. There is a timeless phrase at work here.
Science, it works, bitches.
Maybe now that we've moved beyond the narrow interpretation of "ZOMG VACCINES CAUSE IT", we can now start to apply science to finding the true in utero and developmental triggers that cause Autism to manifest. - Skeptic1970, on 07/08/2009, -3/+15How Dare you blame the parents! It must big Pharma. sarcasm off.
Who you going to sue if it is from the parents biology? - inactive, on 07/08/2009, -1/+10man learn to troll, some of us take this ***** seriously.
- corneillepoe, on 07/08/2009, -3/+12You do not hold a special insight into some conspiracy that everyone else is blind to. You hold a position that every single scientific study done since the beginning of vaccinations makes less and less tenable. You should ask yourself what evidence could be produced to make you change your mind. If there is none, or the standard of proof is above that which underpins your own position, your belief is faith based and has no place in a scientific discussion.
Hint: your belief is faith based. The science is in. Vaccinations work and are safer than the alternative.
It occurs to me that you might be engaging in sarcasm. God I hope so. - AraleNorimaki, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7This study confirms that we still don't know what's going on in autism but suggests there is something interesting about autoimmune diseases in parents of children with autism,"
"These findings are not going to change anything anyone does," Brosco said. "You are not going to treat any patients differently. There is no strong evidence for changing clinical practice, but it does help scientists who are interested in autism understand what are the next questions to ask." - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -0/+7Michael Savage is the picture you see in the dictionary when you look up the word Douchebag. I'm a conservative, and I think he's a ***** loon
- Siskoraban, on 07/08/2009, -2/+9According to Michael Savage, these kids are brats.
- Smashery, on 07/08/2009, -0/+5Um... I don't think she was listening anyway when they told her the first time "It's not vaccines!"
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/08/2009, -8/+13That and vaccinations right?
- jhbarr, on 07/08/2009, -2/+6Friends of ours have seen dramatic changes when they placed their autistic kids on gluten free diets, so it might be worth it to try.
Obvious caveats: This is anecdotal, not science and yes I believe in vaccinations, the kids are getting a ton of early intervention therapy as well and Jenny McCarthy is a imbecile. - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5And now your buried.
- BigVi, on 07/08/2009, -2/+6But shes a former playboy bunny. If we cant get advice from them, where can we get advice from?
- anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -3/+7I see what you did there. Bravo troll! 9.5/10
- unusualbob, on 07/08/2009, -0/+4I really don't like that autism is considered a disorder or a disease, I've always thought of it as a different brain configuration. Sure I don't have a natural aptitude for social behavior, but I'll sure get a higher grade than you on a big test without even studying. I consider social behavior as just another subject such as math or science. Its just something I have had to learn on my own by studying people rather than through a taught class.
- keviniskool, on 07/08/2009, -1/+5*you're
- jhbarr, on 07/08/2009, -2/+6BS. The same folks saying this say autoimmune disease also causes alzheimers, parkinson's, asthma, allergies, etc due to vaccines. Just anti-vaxers in sheep's clothing.

- SlayerConman, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3You're right...Autism didn't "explode 150% in 25 years because of "Celiac Disease"".
It "exploded" because the medical community expanded the spectrum of what is considered autism, thus inflating the numbers in recent years simply due to a reworking of what is actually considered autism versus what was considered autism 25 years ago. - bromac, on 07/10/2009, -0/+3Yes I want to know why it's on the rise. Unfortunately, your random stabs in the dark don't explain it at all, except to further some anti-something agenda that usually has no conclusive research backing it.
Autism is most likely tied to math/science genes. Silicon Valley has an improbable amount of autism diagnoses, implying such. I support this leaning.
Why? Because my brother's autistic, so I have some first-hand experience with it. Also, my father was a math genius, and I certainly exhibit math/science/logical thought leanings. I've also worked (in the field, coworkers) with folks with Aspbergers that have blown me away with their savant-like memory and logical thought, to the point of being it not being a disability but an advantage, yet have serious social issues.
But anyways, my point is that the evidence points towards genetic predisposition if not causation of autism, and not caffeine, radio waves, "chemicals" or whatever other generic cause-all (and if removed cure-all) you can come up with.
You radio wave folks drive me batty with your fear of cell phones. Almost worse than germophobes! - mparker21311, on 07/08/2009, -0/+3lol Yeah, they do taste good. I like mine with a few sides of apartment wifi.
- dagnome1984, on 07/08/2009, -1/+4If you have bothered to due five seconds of research you would know that celiac disease is a relic of human evolution. It was first documented in 250AD. People with this genetic disorder are unable to process gluten which is found in the major staple grains. Humans didn't start growing and eating grains until about 10,000 years ago. It can cause the immune system to attack the internal organs due to the presence of gluten. A change of diet free from gluten retards the damage that is done by the disease.
- esc27, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Mmm radio waves...
- copypastry, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3troll softer man
- calvincooper66, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2Savage called them "schmucks" too.
- trogdoor, on 07/08/2009, -0/+2"Autism rates didnt explode 150% in 25 years because of "Celiac Disease""
And that increase in Autism rates has continued, a decade AFTER THEOMERSAL WAS REMOVED FROM CHILD VACCINES. - unusualbob, on 07/08/2009, -1/+3Well my largest breakthrough was taking a psychology class in highschool which helped me understand non-verbal behavior much better. For the most part all of my non-verbal communication could be considered 'faked' as pretty much all of it is done manually as to seem more normal. So yes, that part of my brain is not the same as most, however at this point in my life I no longer have to think as much about what I am doing because I have been doing it so long. Mostly my current issues for behavior are in intimacy, as that is much harder to study in person.
Mostly autistic people don't need a huge lesson in social behavior, for me that was a logical scientific breakdown of it.
Many kids just need to have things explained in a way they will understand. For example I know a few kids I've worked with that respond better to a physical gesture than speech, for example putting my finger to my lips, even without saying anything will get them to quiet down faster than asking them to do so or making a shhh sound. - 17999, on 07/08/2009, -2/+3Best correlation I've read so far is to a lack of Vitamin D in either the mother or child, their not sure which.
- lindenwold, on 07/08/2009, -3/+4The mother? What kind of ***** is that?
Can we still sue Merck for that? - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Morbo: THAT IS NOT HOW THAT WORKS.
- inactive, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Are you suggesting that we leave autistic kids out in the sun for hours on end in order to try to cure them? You MONSTER!
- mferrari3, on 07/08/2009, -4/+5She needs to be banned from expressing her opinions, or prosecuted for everyone denied standard access to health care and developed complications because of it.
- atroxodisse, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Please look up Crohns disease and then tell me I didn't suffer any effects.
- 17999, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Oops. "they are" not "their"
- Minivolt, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I agree with Slayer.
If you had autism in the old days, you would be diagnosed being a retard or insane. And they would send you to the nut house. - jhbarr, on 07/08/2009, -2/+2Not every autistic person is high functioning. You may have met people that have ASD. But many people with autism are not able to even care for themselves. They cannot even communicate let alone "get a higher grade than you on a big test without even studying"
- atroxodisse, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1So I just noticed I misspoke. This is what I mean to say:
Epidemiology shows that vaccines can't cause autism. Scientists herald it as gospel.
Epidemiology shows that celiac disease is strongly linked to autism. Scientists shrug and say maybe we'll look into it. - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1It has to do with the fact that you didn't have celiac disease, and thus did not suffer the effects.
ANECTDOTES ARE SO AWESOME! - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1Autism isn't a lack of social behavior, it's an inability to learn social behavior at all. Autistics aren't able to socialize as "normal" people are able to. It's not something you can teach away, their personality centers and their brain areas responsable for socialization are different.
- thegrantman, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1Your not autistic.
- atroxodisse, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1Thanks. I thought I had celiac disease and lived a gluten free diet for a year before I was finally diagnosed with Crohns. So I knew that. That has to do with what exactly?
- strem2, on 07/21/2009, -1/+0Bobby Kennedy Jr. has been trying to get the mercury out of his body -- unsuccessfully! He stays away from seafood and powerplants, and still he can't get rid of it!
- mparker21311, on 07/08/2009, -3/+2People wonder why autism is on the rise.
You want to know why it's on the rise? Look at the unnatural ***** we consume on a daily basis. Radio waves, caffeine, etc. There could be a number of causes. - anonymousmedic, on 07/08/2009, -2/+1So. What form of Autism were you diagnosed with? And what child psychiatrtist diagnosed you? Did you self-diagnose with Aspergers like every little wanna-be tartlet on the internet?
I highly doubt that if you were a true autistic, simply taking a "psychology" class would help that. - RiMac, on 07/08/2009, -6/+4Never cease to be amazed by some people's willingness to jump on soapboxes just to demonstrate their total ignorance.
- diggduggjoe, on 07/08/2009, -7/+5I am not sure they really know what the cause is. They are still in the 'We hope to find a correlation that holds up over time." stage.
Though vaccines may not be directly to blame, I am sure having mercury (flu shots) and aluminum (adjuvant) does not help either, for both are neurotoxins. It may be that it is not one thing, but more of the straw that breaks the camels back. -
