- serv, on 10/23/2009, -0/+14Ya or just make your kids play outside.
- ryanonfire, on 10/23/2009, -0/+12But then you might get the cancer.
- doctechnical, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6Low vitamin D levels are particularly a problem amongst African-Americans.
- andrewinspace, on 10/23/2009, -1/+7Yes. Its added into like every ***** kind of milk there is.
- xBloodSplatter, on 10/23/2009, -0/+5....but...but....but the sun! it burns!!
- kiantech, on 10/23/2009, -1/+6Maybe I should ask Steve Gibson
- sdo1, on 10/23/2009, -1/+6http://www.grc.com/health/vitamin-d.htm
For those who don't know, Steve Gibson is a security researcher and podcaster, who recently broke from his weekly discussion of computer and internet security topics to talk to his research about Vitamin D. He's got a great ability to cut through the BS. Good info at the link above. - gidgie, on 10/23/2009, -0/+5/s?
I can't really tell. You seem to be mocking alarmism, but your name is Barackalypse... - Pseudorious, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4I understand why the American Academy of Pediatrics won't recommend putting your infant on a sunbed, but why won't it tell people to simply take their baby out for a walk?
I think parents can find a balance between giving their kid a sunburn and hiding it indoors. As an added benefit, some lard-ass parents might get some exercise and live to see their grandchildren graduate from college. - elarson, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4I just started taking vitamin D3 supplements to fight Seasonal Affective Disorder and I feel pretty good. Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
- djcgmcse, on 10/23/2009, -0/+4it actually is tough to overdose on vitamin D.. I think it's somewhere around 20,000 IU in one day, which is a lot. So I think you'll be just fine.
- j0phus, on 10/23/2009, -0/+3Based off the other comments, try walking on sunshine.
- EelfinnTy, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2i'm 25 and i feel like ***** today. it probably has something to do with all the alcohol i drank last night
- djcgmcse, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2diggnutty, are you suggesting that skin cancer is not caused by over exposure to the sun, but by diet and pollution?
- ryanonfire, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2ummm it's called shade.
- Metalcastr, on 10/24/2009, -0/+2Perhaps it's your shoes.
- trunksgoku, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2Quit lathering your babies in spf300 sunscreen. Problem solved.
- 4degrees, on 10/23/2009, -0/+2you cant see the xbox screen outside
- dcritelli, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1I'm not going to lie. Coming from Digg I thought this was going to be a Michael Jackson joke.
- coryhenry6, on 10/29/2009, -0/+1Vitamins are so critical. I get my vitamins from the nutritional supplements from Ardyss International. Http://www.myhealthytemple.com They have great products that my kids love. The Levive drink is a winner for my 2 YO that normaly turns her nose up at anything Healthy. She loves it.
- Winkleman, on 10/22/2009, -0/+1Usually the tablets also have fillers and binders. I try to avoid tablet vitamins and supplements because they don't breakdown and absorb as well.... don't know how true it all is though.
- inactive, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1This is all you need to know...

- demiz23, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1To think that sunlight and nature or 'natural' things are nothing but good for you is truly delusional. I would agree that poor diets (lack of exercise) and pollution are bad for the immune system which is the body's defense against inevitable cell deterioration/mutation. But the connection between melanoma and sunlight is indisputable.

- SilverBack101, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1I'm going to make sure my kid gets plenty of Vitamin Douchebag. Each day I'll give my son a rumpled polo shirt with the collar popped up and have him put on some orange spray tan and introduce him to the Bro-culture by teaching him how to fist bump before he can walk.
- EelfinnTy, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1D2 is the form added to milk and isn't as effective as the type your body makes and uses (D3)
- CardioTabs, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1You can get vitamin D from the sun, but you can’t always count on getting enough vitamin D from the sun. During the winter months (November –February) everyone that lives north of Atlanta is at risk for vitamin D deficiency even if you do go outside. The reason for this is that the sun rays are not strong during these months and it does not provide us with enough vitamin D. Fortified foods, dairy products, fish and supplements are great ways to get enough vitamin D. Many doctors are suggesting we get about 2000 IU daily of vitamin D (an amount that has been deemed safe).
- undervalued, on 10/25/2009, -0/+1Everything in moderation people, while too much sunshine can cause cancer, some sunshine can actually help to minimize the risk. However, how much depends entirely on the individual.
- KelticKal, on 10/24/2009, -0/+1It is hypothesized that low levels of vitamin D is reason why darker skinned people have greater rates of cancer. Everyone should be taking vitamin D during winter months in northern climes. People living in the south have lower rates of cancer than northerners.
- kendetroit, on 10/23/2009, -0/+1My wife is gonna not like hearing I have to serve up twice as much Vitamin D. Good for me, however.
- robinthehood, on 10/23/2009, -2/+1I'm not a pedophile so no, I'm not giving kids vitamin D. I do however, recommend women get as much vitamin D as possible.
- basheer12m, on 10/23/2009, -1/+0nice
- Barackalypse, on 10/23/2009, -3/+2No, your kids never get enough of the things that are good for them and always have too much of everything bad for them and its totally your fault because you suck as a parent and your kids will probably die of something entirely preventable before they graduate grade school, which is just as well because they would have gotten pregnant, addicted to smack, and dropped out of high school anyway and lived in your basement forever. Its so much fun being alarmist!
- geobotsar, on 10/23/2009, -1/+0nice!!!
- diggnutty, on 10/23/2009, -4/+0The vitamin D in milk is derived from irradiated cattle brains
- inactive, on 10/23/2009, -7/+2Are your kids getting enough free thought?
That's a much more important question than this buried *****. - diggnutty, on 10/23/2009, -5/+0Hundreds of years ago, mankind lived life outdoors in the sunshine. Cancer isn't the result of sun exposure, it comes from our collectively poor diets and polluted air and water.

What is Digg?
