When you are faced with 2 groups one being a minority, in this case men and women, the minority always gets more leeway and special treatment. It's the same as fathers usually losing in custody battles in court. Bad treatment from a minority towards a majority is ok or not as bad. Bad treatment from a majority towards a minority is viewed as 5 times worse than it is. One day hopefully we can make it where cases like this are horrible no matter who is doing it to who.

In the eyes of a feminist, it COULD be viewed this way, but Thailand has a very strong culture (e.g. many people - men and women - wearing yellow to show respect to their King) which actually spills into much of their everyday life. This culture involves recognising the differences between men and women - and I realise that any distinctions made between men and women - in the eyes of a feminist - would automatically be viewed as sexist.

            But walk around Bangkok and you see as many businesswomen as businessmen. You see women working on the building sites just as men do. There are jobs that traditionally are carried out by men, other jobs traditionally carried out by women. Culturally/traditionally, men are drivers - so you see male tuk-tuk and taxi drivers (though there is the odd female taxi driver). Is that sexist? I don't think so. I think that's more a cultural artifact. I think if a woman wanted to be a taxi driver, there would be nothing stopping her. I see male nurses (I live next to a hospital), but they are a small minority. Is that sexist toward men? Of course not.

            In the poorer areas of Thailand, it's about pragmatism, not control/sexism. People are too poor to concern themselves with sexism - it's all hands on deck. Your family works in the fields (including children if need be) and helps out where they can.

            I think the bigger problem in Thailand is exploitation of the poor (be they male or female) because there is a big disparity between rich and poor here. That's another issue though.

            What would your proposal be for Thailand? To be more like the west? I think this would spoil the country where any traditional celebration would have to be approved by the politically correct and eventually the country would become bland, too afraid to do anything that might make any distinction between men and women.

Look at our divorce rates! I've lost interest in most (not all) American women and prefer Asians because of their submissive, family oriented nature. 'Have no game?' this isn't a game - it's life. And I'm sure there are many men whom feel just as I do.

I've known several guys in the Navy that spent time in Japan or Korea, became almost obsessed with the culture, and returned several years later with asian wives. Their argument is along the same lines, that they married an Asian woman with traditional values because they feel that these values no longer exist in western women. I don't disagree with this. Overzealous feminism has largely destroyed the traditional western family structure.

          BUT... Is it worth the trade off to have to marry into a completely different culture in order to achieve the "traditional" family structure? You may get a wife that adores you, submits to you (not attractive to me, personally), and raises a family for you, much like you may have had with a western woman only a century ago. Everything else is completely different, however.

          Of course, I'm assuming that you married a Thai immigrant. If she's a US native, then I suppose my question is null. Otherwise... Do you really desire that sort of family relationship so heavily that you would rather be married to a woman who is from a completely different culture from you? Don't you ever wish that you could have married a "traditional" western woman instead?
