- pyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4As long as they are making TONS of money there will never be a cure...
- ddxChrist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I concur. It starts at secondary school; the health programs are complete junk. Basic nutrition isn't hard, but the majority of the US screws it up royally.
- VeganG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I was going to mention bread, and you beat me to it. It's insane how corn syrup is in EVERYTHING in the grocery store now. There's no excuse for bread to contain corn syrup. If your bread has more than three or four ingredients, something is wrong.
- MrKC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3As a diabetic I totally agree. More education is needed on how a proper diet is needed for your basic health. I have adult onset diabetes, and wish I had diet education beyond the pyramid when I was a child. It took my diagnosis to finally educate myself what a proper diet is and how it effects the body.
- 1laradream, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Does handling the symptoms mean that Americans are going to stop treating this serious disease seriously? The cause is our modern diet, but there's not enough money being put into educating folk.
- Puppetfunk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3...You have Type 1.5 diabetes? How does that work?
- VeganG, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3It's terrible seeing schools these days with vending machines everywhere you look. They're always in pairs: soda, and candy. Schools are just looking for ways to make money, they don't give a ***** what a bad impression they make on kids.
- JaYBrooks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Damn straight... I know where to get my diabetic test'n supplies..
- skytimelapse, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4What I didn't know (and no one told me) was that white bread could have the same bad effects on my blood sugar as candy. The amount of starches and high fructose corn syrup americans suck in is mind boggling.
whole wheat bread FTW - JaYBrooks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Well for people born with it there probably will be a cure one day.
The people who bring it on them selves have a cure. Stop drinking so much sugar water! - skinnyjohns, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3diet and genes both contribute... type 1.5 btw.
- revjustin2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I have type 1 - got it when I was 25. I hate it when people tell me I could have avoided this with better lifestyle choices. ***** YOU!!!
- Gizmort, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Newer drugs like Byetta are really helping Type 2 Diabetics.
- TerraByte, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You are totally ignorant about the condition.
- horsman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Type 1, 2 years. I need better lifestyle now that I am diabetic. I was a healthy eater and well balanced exercised kid. Now I dine on too much meat and veggies, diet soda and other ***** to save on carbs.
As above for people that talk about my lifestyle. - illycoffee, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2More socialized medicine!
- illycoffee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Michael Moore is lucky! He is sure to get the diabetes.
- ezkash, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Get rid of the fast food and fatty stuff and you'd be ok. http://arelluly.info
- pyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have been treating my diabetes since I was 11 years old.
How about funding for a cure instead of ways to make me continue to live a "normal life". - manuelhp42, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is something to be happy about!
To further help those affected by diabetes in the management of their condition, I want to present to you two excellent resources for your consideration:
http://sugarstats.com - a Web 2.0 site for easy online blood sugar and diabetes management
http://tudiabetes - a growing social network for people touched by diabetes (close to 300 members as of today). - bernfarr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think the TuDiabetes site (http://TuDiabetes.com) is a good way to learn from others with diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2). Each disease needs different approaches and learning from folks with the disease itself is the best way.
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Apparently, stem cells injected into the pancreas can stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin more efficiently and thus allow one to get off medication for diabetes. At least with Type 2 (which I have). That looks promising indeed...
Diabetes is a nasty disease. If you don't take care of yourself, like my sister, you will need new kidneys. Every day, I take cinnamon, mangosteen, and gymnema sylvestre to aid in keeping my glucose levels normal. These natural things definitely help IMO. For the most part, I feel great. You just have to be very careful what you eat. - SimonGray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In Scandinavia and Germany we eat rye bread for lunch. Supposed to be a lot healthier than white bread. Maybe some more people should try that?
- oana77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Stop fast food!

- Jasonstech, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1God Bless you Wilford Brimley!
- numberneal, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0one of the main issues is that people rely on the glycemic index rather than the glycemic load to determine your insulin response after eating food, so they think they are eating right by eating whole wheat bread when it may stimulate more insulin than white bread; read through reason 88 of my article - http://www.alobravo.com/2007/06/12/96-reasons-why-you-will-always-be-fat/ - where i explain and cite some excellent research that can help you control your insulin levels and help you effectively treat diabetes.
- xSEED, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3cause: FATNESS
- numberneal, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0people keep relying on the glycemic index rather than the glycemic load to determine the amount of insulin a food produces; thus making poor decisions, like eating potatoes, whole wheat bread. read through reason 88 in my article - http://www.alobravo.com/2007/06/12/96-reasons-why-you-will-always-be-fat/ - where i write on the glycemic load and cite excellent research anyone could leverage to effectively treat diabetes by following a balanced meat, fruit, vegetable, and mono-unsaturated fat diet.
