- Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Now, how much coconut do I need to eat to cure my herpes....
- glmory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Looks crazy to me. Taking a look at the references list at the bottom of http://www.healingfoodreference.com/tomato.html I see way more people without a medical degree than with one. Most of the people with credentials listed are things like an ND(Doctor of Naturopathy) or O.M.D. (Oriental Medical Doctor). I can't imagine most of these people even know what a controlled blinded study is, or why you need one to separate the placibo effect from actual effects.
If you want good information a nice place to look is http://www.quackwatch.org/04ConsumerEducation/nutritionist.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Cyanide, arsenic, belladona are all natural...and are poisons. Not everything natural is harmless.
- Robin110, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Sites like this disgust me. This is one step above homeopathy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Be very careful of these herbal and food's "healing powers". Some definitely has good affects but many have been proven to be ineffective or dangerous. This website does not look reliable. Try the NIH or CDC or even webmd
- thrasher6670, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It can hurt because people will invariably follow one of these instead of taking the proper medicine.... the fact that cancer is even on that website just pains me; people might attempt to "eat right" as the list somewhat implies and delay treatment that could have saved their life had they not waited.
- LCmidas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5http://www.whfoods.org/ is a much more reputable, scientific, and informative site.
- CanuckMakem, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Complete bunk.....
- billyvnilly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4a grain of sea salt http://www.healingfoodreference.com/sea_salt.html
- FearlessFreep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And watch it be dupped a half hour later
- arg553, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3there probably isn't any type of food that will vaccinate you against cancer, but some foods can lower your chances of getting certain kinds of cancer.
- bluecc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3food heals anorexia
- Tolzmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So cancer can be prevented if we all eat right?
- btgoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There are many who would say yes to that, of course nothing is that simple. But as someone who has been dealing with cancer for the past two years I would suggest doing whatever you can to avoid it... it is not fun.
- buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41)See story about "super foods" on home page
2)Immediately submit a similar story
3)Get Digg buddies (Digg mafia as I like to call them) to game the system
4)Watch and wait as story is boosted to Digg front page
I should blog these steps and then submit them as a Digg story. - Kranklin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha ... healing herbs for halitosis: Peppermint... http://www.healingfoodreference.com/halitosis.html ... no Really!?
- cruelpupet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Interesting list, take it with a grain of salt, but then agina its all natural so hey why not try it.
It couldnt hurt. - n8br, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Agreed, homeopathy angers me to no end. It is very difficult to reason with its followers.
My main points are:
1. A substance must be present to be an active ingredient.
2. More diluted doesn't make it "stronger"; as they argue,
3. And diluted caffeine doesn't cure insomnia!
I have personally worked with companies that sell this crap, and while it may not do direct harm, the websites and there customer service personnel will say anything to make a buck; whether they believe it or not.
I KNOW natural food as remedy is different ... sort of ... but the same sites are pushing it with the same logic and quackery ...
So, yes BE CAREFUL with info like this. That said, I study biology and my wife is a dietitian, so yes I do think food matters; but as said above get your info from NIH, WHO, CDC, PubMed, NCBI, and other such credible sources. AVOID any site that is selling crap and citing crap . - Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Most of the people with credentials listed are things like an ND(Doctor of Naturopathy) or O.M.D. (Oriental Medical Doctor). @glmory: I'm not overly familiar with other countries, but in Canada an ND is similar to an MD. Both are about 8 years of post secondary eduction. The main difference is that an MD focuses on prescribing pharmaceuticals while an ND focuses on natural health solutions. I've met some OMD's that were amazing; although I'm not sure what the procedure is to become one. - abaddono1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hosted by 'Truth Publishing' yeah, thats reliable...
- anitab83, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3WOW! Fantastic list ... as someone with chronic health conditions, I'm definitely going to refer to this.
- SifuMoKung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy is full of *****. I'd love to tell him to his face. What do you eat to cure gullibility?
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't help but feel like this site is another one of those "domain parking pages" but with medical junk on it. I mean seriously, look at the page, it is practically built completely with Search Engine Optimization techniques in mind, and it does sell quite a few books on the site.
- goat2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2inaccurate, doesnt list Deez Nutz for the ailment of you talking
- Rezzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That may help your fatigue.
- Sefirosu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No one really knows for sure. There are books for "Food preventing cancer" but you may as well eat "right" all your life and get cancer at age 30... that's "random".
Cancer is really one of the worst diseases anyone can have. Fight well to anyone who has some form of it, we're with you and the fight can be won. - amowls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1DIGG ME DOWN (wrong article can you believe it?)
- Apreche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Food does not cure illness. Do what your doctor says, not some guy trying to sell his organic vegetables at inflated prices.
- euarchonta, on 11/13/2007, -1/+0Amusing how artichoke is the only thing recommended to combat obesity.
- sstickeler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Doesn't look very comprehensive. No descriptions of why a particular food is good for an ailment.
http://www.respectrandomness.com - prvtnet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1very cool site. thanks
- zanzzz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0It's easy to be skeptical about "curing" disease by just eating certain foods. Actually it has been proven to work in animals and the results apply to humans. It is by eating foods that contain "methyl donors". These foods such as onions, garlic, beets have small chemical clusters that can attach to a gene and turn it off. This was demonstrated to change the genetic expression of a "bad" gene in mice. It was switched by RNA or epigenes. Other studies showed green tea and soy can "shut down" the deleterious switches that would have prevented cancer fighting genes from working. The effects of a mother's diet on epigenetic expression in her unborn offspring has been shown to change genetic expression through multiple generations! This shows inherited characteristics over many generations by environmental non-genetic means! It is essentially a narrow form of Lamarckism, an inheritance theory completely discredited (seemingly) years ago!
So go ahead and have a good laugh about diet curing disease!
