- theysayjump, on 10/10/2007, -12/+7310.) After spending over $2,000 on a new Mac Pro you can't afford to see the doctor. Besides, they can't treat you for regret anyway.
- postitnote, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50"On average, Americans consume around 20 pounds of apples a day, which comes to around 1 apple a week."
And that 1 apple weights 140 pounds. - LowRentDiggs, on 10/10/2007, -9/+51I had a feeling an anti-fanboy fanboy would be first post
- chubbybubba, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27"I just wanted to come see you...whaaaa??!! .. oh my God, you had an apple!!!.... I must retreat... cannot stayyy.....growing weaker.....err...awww...............................DAMN YOU Apples to Hell" - Doctor
- inkswamp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24I am sooooo ***** bored of platform wars and "fanboy" this and "fanboy" that. Can we stop bringing that crap into every discussion? It's really ruining Digg.
- ShuttleDisaster, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25"On average, Americans consume around 20 pounds of apples a day" --haha whaaaaat?
- Shootfast, on 10/10/2007, -6/+27*except in countries with universal health care
- alekies, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22And an onion a day keeps everyone away, amirite?
- GravitySpec, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Quit comparing apples to oranges... I will not have this tomfoolery on Digg... oh wait...
- Vich, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18It's true! When you throw apples at Doctors they stay back, and not just medical doctors either.
I tried this on my friend's dad who has a phd and it worked wonders. - calcio0fan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16The "people who eat 5 or more apples a week have lower respiratory problems" seems like one of the many instances of misinterpreting correlation as causation.
Uh, duh, people who eat 5 or more apples a week are probably healthier in general... for the most part, they probably don't smoke.... so duh healthier lungs. - julianrod, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14OMG! You're such an anti-anti-anti-fanboy!!!
And I guess that makes me an anti-anti-anti-anti-fanboy.
There's no escape... - SuperMoses, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Anti-fanboy? You're telling me there are pro-fanboys? People who support teenagers who are fans of corporation?
- Dysarthria, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I am sick and tired of the Apple Growers Lobby! Stop trying to get into my head, ya core-eatin', seed spittin', fruit pushers!
- Soave, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Yeah wtf is that stat supposed to be?
20 pounds per year? - rhinopig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Still, this should have been posted under News > Technology > Apple.
- idugcoal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Yeah, and I wouldn't have understood what the hell you were talking about if you hadn't included the NASDAQ symbol, this being in the Science|Health section and all. For clarity, we should all refer to all things as a Yahoo! News article or Wall Street stockbroker would.
- LordSlashstab55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I was hesitant on clicking this at first, then I realized that it didn't have an 'i' before it. Then I was like WTF, and found information on my favorite snack.
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7They also apparently wake you up better than a cup of coffee and you wont crash when the effects wear off.
- Zettabyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Hehe, the Neo-con's brain-washed you pretty well I see.
- prosemite2isgay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You die
- SuperMoses, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Oranges have less calories than the apple and more of everything else. Besides, calories aren't evil if people moved their asses every once in awhile to burn them.
- coffeebot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+810. doctors loathe apples!
- grenden, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8"On average, Americans consume around 20 pounds of apples a day, which comes to around 1 apple a week."
They should have checked their math before putting this up. Although my coworker suggested that they might mean "Americans as a nation", even that makes no sense. In my guesstimation, you could get an average of 4-5 apples per pound, depending on their size...so that comes to 80-100 apples consumed each day--for the whole population of the U.S.? 300 million people?!? I'm pretty sure that each grocery store in the U.S. probably sells 20 pounds of apples each day, which adds up to a hell of a lot more apples than 1 per week. So to sum up, WTF? - jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"It's really ruining Digg."
Digg is not in the process of getting ruined - that ship sailed a long, long time ago. - santaliqueur, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You're getting dugg down, but you're correct.
- Bluejaye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5And apples can be cold stored all winter long, unlike most other fruits that go rotten very quickly. I'd rather have an apple from the farmer down the road here in Michigan in the middle of the winter, than some tasteless peach from some other country that was picked long before it was ripe just so it could be shipped here in one piece.
- suriyou, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Well I'm allergic to apples, so an apple a day for me equals a trip to the doctor. :(
- fusama, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But apples have low calories/weight. Now nutrients/calorie, or nutrients/calorie/$ would be interesting metrics.
- tcissell, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The type of person how eats apples as part of their normal diet is likely to lead a healthier lifestyle (i.e. don't smoke, probably exercise, etc) - therefore they would have lower respiratory problems.
Correlative vs. Causal (the murder rate in Chicago increases as the rate of ice cream sales increases - does eating ice cream piss people off and cause them to kill?) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9Almost every other fruit has more nutrients/weight with respect to apple. http://www.thefruitpages.com/contents.shtml
plus trace element content isn't very high in apple. Apples are just a mediocre source of nutrients, nothing to write home about.. - michaelschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't think fanboys are limited to teenagers, to be honest. I'm sure the cult infiltrates adults, as well.
- ekravchenko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What about eating apples in large quantities, lets say 5 kg/ week?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I agree. The person who invented that term should be put away. Every time someone uses it they sound like a fairy.
- alexdemers, on 10/10/2007, -1/+311.) If you throw an apple in the face to your doctor he may never come back to see you.
- Bluejaye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hence the usage of the words "cold storage" and not frozen. People had root cellars for centuries to store these types of foods over the long, hungry winters.
- theRIAA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2that sounds accurate...
- MSX2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2So what happens if you eat an orange a day?
- HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I was gunna say, because even if you only bought a Shuffle every day, it would get frickin' expensive!
- slapthemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wow interesting yet already known facts.....
- arjung, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1buried for horrible english in the article...
"Vitamin C helps greatly your immune system. "
"an infection that seriously damages the structure of your teeth, which are caused" - macbookpromat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Does smoking weed count, because I love apples, but I still smoke the *****.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the highest ranked comment.
- pdavda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you even read that sentence, it says lower respiratory problems, they don't give you asthma.
- jpowell180, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Daleks should eat apples.
- mcleaver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1A pretty lame attempt to gain attention on Digg to sell a blog about how to market your blog :|
- outhouseinput, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, but just like most of the APPL articles, this one has more to do with myths and rumors more than anything else. Everything on this list is either made up, or just plain wrong. Look it up.
- iSlayer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3I could of have done a wikipedia on this. Quite useless info for me. Since when has your doctor told you to eat a apple a day to keep them away? they need that money!
- footodors, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1true, true!
- jester55, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it sealed the deal when they said it keeps the dentist away
