Weight loss ~ calories in - calories out
It's not rocket science. Exercise a bit, don't eat *****. - psykiv, on 01/15/2009, -1/+14Follow the diet in on, it's simple.
Buy yourself some comfortable running shoes, some exercise shorts, and a few tech tees. Start training for a marathon. Start at approx 10 miles a week running and build yourself up to 50-60 miles a week.
As a benefit you can even eat whatever you want, but trust me you'll quickly adjust your diet when on your next run you're dying after the 9th mile because you feel that fatty piece of meat from last night jumping up and down in your stomach. You'll subconsciously start eating healthier when you realize its the only way you'll survive those long runs.
As a plus your pulse will plummet, your heart will thank you, and you'll have some strong as ***** legs and ridiculous amounts of stamina.
Not to mention cardio is a kickass way to get rid of fat (especially in the mid section)
Went from 320lbs to 200lbs, size 46 to size 32 jeans, resting pulse of 110 to about 50 with still room for improvement in like 7 months thanks to this. - ISurfTooMuch, on 01/15/2009, -0/+13Simple. It's the same reason people fall for get-rich-quick schemes. People are lazy. They want the results without doing the work.
- zaii7, on 01/15/2009, -0/+11twinkie diet minus the diet is for me!
- Jeepinator, on 01/15/2009, -2/+12I don't understand how people fall victim to fad diets. Eat less than you use and you will lose weight! It is simple logic!
- alexvalentine, on 01/15/2009, -5/+14Atkins was the worse diet fad.
- KingVegas702, on 01/15/2009, -0/+8Hello Mr Finger!!
- Narcism, on 01/15/2009, -2/+10First to comment, and first buried into oblivion! Two achievements at once! Incredible. I rival such achievements.
- OMGscience, on 01/15/2009, -3/+9The Obese make me laugh. "Oh I have a medical condition." As they stuff a Big Mac down their gullet. Eat less and move more fatty! It's not magic! Disgusting people with no self control.
- davidg11, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5I agree. This is simple. Its calories period. Eat a little less and walk on a treadmill for 20 min every other day, big whoop.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5At least in the short run, but it's horrible for your body. Your body NEEDS food.
- lowtolerance, on 01/15/2009, -0/+5I think that's covered by "Beef and Bacon" diets, but I gotta say that it does work. I did it for a while back when it was gaining popularity, and I lost 20 pounds in a couple of months. Eventually, I actually got below my target weight, and I stopped. It took me a year before I gained any of the weight back. So, I'd have to say it definitely fires up your metabolism.
- immatellyouwhat, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4exercise like mountain goat and you'll be fine
- Harbinger67, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4Yeah, if only it were that easy. For example, if your someone prone to insulin overproduction, you might THINK you're doing yourself a favor by eating lean lunchmeat sandwiches and wraps, but all that starch is actually making it a lot harder to lose weight.
- davidrools, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4So simple, yet people seem so incapable of grasping these concepts. There's no magic pill or secret diet to help you lose weight. Getting more exercise is probably one of the most important and most difficult things for overweight people to do.
- bella2k, on 01/15/2009, -0/+4This is why Atkins has a bad rap - people think its just "protein and fat".Take the time to pick up Dr Atkins Diet Revolution and you'll realize you eat LOTS of vegetables and he advocates that "exercise is not an option."
- jarjarwang, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3I don't know what they are thinking-- Skittles are NOT a good diet food. They are loaded with sugar and contain relatively little actual fruit.
- OMGscience, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4I had compassion till I looked in their pantry and say nothing but junk food. What is sad is when they buy the 100 calorie packs and eat the whole damn box in 1 sitting thinking they did good.
- prettysic, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3The planet is over populated...stay fat and die young...natural selection at its best
- DiggzDE, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4Hell, just changing what I was eating (from fastfood every night to cooking at home) and keeping track of what I was eating has shown me that I can lose some weight.
I found some free widget for igoogle which calculates calories, etc from what I eat. It also calculates calories burned from exercise (including the calories for sleeping, resting, walking, etc).
Makes it easy to stay healthy. - kelpee, on 01/15/2009, -1/+4Moderation. Everything in Moderation.
- aguita, on 01/15/2009, -2/+5He said 10 miles a week. A week. You can break that up by either doing 5 2 mile runs, not quite 1.5 mile runs per day, 2 5 mile runs, 3 3 mile runs, etc.
10 miles per week sounds like quite a lot, but it really isn't. If running isn't your thing, try cycling. The point is, set a goal, and work hard at it. - Hitchhiker90, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3Atkins was a reasonably sound diet, its just that everyone went there own way with it. You can't eat a Burger King double cheeseburger without the bun and expect to lose weight. They had one of the Atkins reps on FitTV talking about the diet and she said the same thing in that these people doing Atkins were just doing their own thing instead of following the rules of how it is supposed to be done.
- ileftfark, on 01/15/2009, -0/+3If you have the time and money to get surgery, you have all the necessary resources to lead a slightly healthier lifestyle. Even 20 minutes of light activity and making smarter diet choices can get rid of excess fat and cause you to be more healthy overall (its not just about weight). Barring the very small percentage of Americans who have some disorder or condition that prevents this, everyone should be able to make small changes if they care to. Most people are just lazy, and that brings us back to the issue causing these symptoms in the first place.
- inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+3You Vidal have gone full retard.
- greensky, on 01/15/2009, -2/+5Sure, but they end up dropping dead from heart disease. It's a horrible idea.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3For the most part true, but you do need to balance out fiber with fat and sugars. A good salad for lunch (say butter lettuce, walnuts, berries, sprouts, and a little chicken with a dressing) is better than the equivalent number of calories in a burger or pizza (or something of the sort).
Part of the reason I got fat (and many others get fat) is because while a burger or pizza tastes good, you need to eat more of it to feel full. Fiber fills you up AND aides in digesting the food you eat....
but the key that a lot of diet books don't bring up is that you need to eat in moderation AND (a big and here) you need to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Even if it's only 15 of cardio and 15 of weight lifting, do SOMETHING....You're body needs to move.... - CreamySmooth, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2How the hell did u come up with that. Think about it, most of the cakes calories are coming from the sugar, flour and butter that are used to make it. You have to eat like, 15-20 cups of veg to even equal the calories from one big slice of cake. And I highly doubt you can each that much veg in one sitting. Fact is, you feel alot FULLER when you eat clean calories, along with the fiber and nutrients that come along with eating veg.
- CreamySmooth, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Totally agree. You think I wouldnt love to stop at DQ for a jumbo clodhoppers blizzard, then swing by KFC for a bucket of popcorn chicken, large fries, gravy, aand a non diet, sugary to ***** fruitopia. Its all about self control, just think to yourself, " If I eat this ice cream, is it gonna benefit me in a good way? Sure, it tastes good, but nobody likes a lard ass. What I dont understand is HOW the HELL do people get way obese, like 300+ Lbs. Do they not ever look in mirror while trying to squeeze into their size 48 pants and think to themselves, " Hmmm.. I think its time I ate healthier, went for walks, and lost some weight."
People only think about the "NOW", and not the future. Obese people are gonna die way before they should. - omjeremy, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2It's just too difficult for some people, physically or otherwise, to simply eat healthy and stay active. That's why these fads come into existence. Unfortunately, there are no real shortcuts when it comes to staying fit, of course minus getting bariatric surgery, which is just forcing people to eat less, or liposuction.
Eat healthy, lower your caloric intake by a few hundred calories and do cardio/stay active. - inactive, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2While this is true, your body will be burning muscle instead of fat if the nutrients aren't there. So in the end you may be skinny, but you will be less healthy then a fat person who eats well, but just over consumes.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2got to be honest made me laugh a little.
- DiggzDE, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3Yeah. No one is going to start at 10 miles a week.
You've got to be in pretty decent shape to begin with to do that. Your idea = major fail for any overweight person trying to get in shape.
If you are going to run a marathon, train properly and with people who can help you do so. Team in Training is a great tool.
If you are looking to lose some weight and get in shape by yourself, I really don't think your idea will work for the average person. - psykiv, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2I was 320lbs and I started at 10 miles a week. I started 2 miles 5 times a week. Just run what you can. You can *walk* it in 30 minutes. Just running a little bit will get you in the 28minute range. Work from there.
10 miles a week really isnt a lot. - stickster123, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3There are a lot of studies that prove atkins was one to something.. I have used it successfully to the tune of 50 lbs
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/03/07030 ...
It is a good diet.. provides a certain level of discipline but is kinda the suck for long term weight maintenance. I prefer a more veggie and fruit approach for that.
The chemistry of the body plays an important role as well. - inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Totally wrong.
here's a blurb on why:
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/multiple-fac ... - inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2He probably eats a bran muffin on the toilet every morning. He might as well cut out the middle man and just chuck it in there and flush.
- SirFink, on 01/16/2009, -0/+2Why the bacon hate all of a sudden? Guess we have to wait for Apple to put out the iBacon?
- dlm85, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Fiber Fill was pretty bad. You took a horse pill followed by a couple big glasses of water and wait for the fiber to blow up in your stomach.
- ileftfark, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3Dude, every culture that has ever existed has made eating a social thing. That is clearly not the issue.
- briguymaine, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3The Japanese Pornstar Diet - Eat nothing but paper, but you can have as much paper as you want. - 30 Rock
- iPood, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3Fad diets are a waste of time and once people lose weight with them, they go back to their old ways.
I've just made the choice to get in better shape. This isn't a New Year's Resolution thing, this is a "***** I'm 24 and only getting bigger, I need to do something about this before it gets out of hand" thing. So, a few weeks ago I was on vacation from work and I went out and walked a few miles. It actually made me feel good about myself. Now I've been a lot more active, and a big help to me is that I work in NYC. I take the bus in and walk to my office which is about a half mile, so I'm walking at least a mile a day out of necessity. Also, I'm no longer partaking in "pizza Friday" here at work. Instead I hit up a deli and get a turkey sandwich on wheat. I also switched to diet soda only.
Already I'm seeing an improvement, and once the weather gets a little warmer I'm going to be getting outside after work a lot more. - inactive, on 01/15/2009, -1/+3The bad part with Atkins is the first two weeks. Ketosis is VERY bad for your kidneys. Aktins isn't "kick starting" your metabolism either, it's fooling your body into thinking it's a famine, and forcing the fat to be used rather than stored. While this is all fine and good, your body is going to back to the way it was after you stop.
It's a life style change that needs to happen. Atkins can get you going, but you need to eat right, exercise, and find a way to moderate WHAT you eat. I f'ing love ice cream...but I know if I had Coldstone after every meal, I'd be 300lbs. So, I moderate and have it once a month or so.... - WhiZa, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2This guy really likes fiber huh? He must be one of those guys that's able to keep the seat down.
- inactive, on 01/15/2009, -0/+2Maybe. It depends on what kind of bread, how much fiber, how much bread, what's in the sandwich, how much meat, etc.
With that being said, ya, it's gonna be better to eat low carb for those that are insulin resistant. - CreamySmooth, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1If i take a few days off from lifting, I can weigh about 10 pounds more then what I did 4 days ago. As soon I finish 2 workouts during the week in a row, Im back to my original weight. Try drinking LOTS of water when you feel hungry, and try to have a bowl of oatmeal instead of simple sugar loaded fruit which only keep you full for so long. The bowl of oatmeal will hold you over a lot longer.
- Jeepinator, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Wow. If you Digg this down, you are a fat ass.
- TheSpook, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1> "Fad diets are a waste of time"
...and some people need hindsight to see in 20x20. Obviously, those trying the diet think/hope that it's not a fad and really works. - DiggzDE, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Someone who hasn't run for a period of time is not going to start at 2 miles a day for 5 days. Some of them wouldn't even be able to make it. You will be lucky to find people willing to start at running more than 3 to 5 miles a week tops.
- TheSpook, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1Yes, because everyone is the same an couldn't possibly have a medical condition that you do not believe in.
