- zappo1776, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28Corn smut is actually pretty good if you like mushrooms. Other forms of smut are good too.
- mrgreenjeans, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26Pork brains in milk gravy. I'm not even going to mention that to any of my Jewish friends.
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20It's kosher if you eat it through a hole in a bed sheet.
- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I tried it after reading about it here: http://www.thesneeze.com/mt-archives/cat_steve_dont_eat_it.php
Bought two cans. One can had a big fat white caterpillar in it. The other can I mixed with scrambled eggs, which became the most disgusting gray color I've ever seen in a food. The taste was edible, but not a "delicacy" in my book. - nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I've had fresh fiddleheads. Just another green vegetable really.
- chicoer2001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12What's wrong with a few greens in a can. People eat spinach and kale. Heck some people even eat Brussels sprouts.
- SaII, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11fried dace is really good
- Clout, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Well, 1/3 of those are from Maine. Say something about my fine state.
We eat good! - chopenik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Some of them don't sound half bad if combined with massive amounts of alcohol or that other stuff that makes you hungry.
- muypicante, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I don't know about the other canned foods, but the Fried Dace from China that you can find in any oriental grocery store is excellent tasting! It is just a fried fish that comes in a choice of either plain or with black beans, tofu, vegetables, etc. It makes a great sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes. I will admit it is rather high on salt content. About a dollar a can.
- miriclaire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Starvation?
- elzilcho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The title is misleading.
- AstralSin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5try it and let us know
- shaun1018, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6A guy at work has a framed can of Spotted Dick.
- phunlee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5We bought a can of this once. It's still with one of my friends. He displays it as a housewive displays knick-knacks.. like porcelain angels, etc. Except, instead it's Pork Brains in Milk Gravy.
- dragoneye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I don't know why those are on there, they are quite tasty. I've never had them out of a can before, only fresh.
- dweeb79, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Fiddleheads are amazing fresh. Poor some vinegar on em and everyone will love it.
- Novion76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Fried dace is actually pretty good. Just make sure to pour out the oil
- rkiga, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah the first thing i though of is that they must have that corn smut on the list, and yup it was there. that potted meat picture at thesneeze always makes my mouth water.
- wassim2k, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6They forgot SPAM, and I don't mean junk e-mail.
- misterjangles, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A Mexican restaurant down the street from my old place serves Cuitlacoche (I never knew it was also called corn smut) quesadillas . They're actually pretty good. But, it's just a thin layer of the stuff with cheese - i don't think i would want a whole spoonful by itself or mixed with eggs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I was surprised not to see this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstromming - phunlee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If I'm allergic to Dandelion flowers, would I be risking death eating them?
- cdharrison, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm sure you meant MRE (Meal, Ready-to-Eat) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRE
- ShorXrorE, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3the fact that this doesn't include SPAM shows its inherent bias.
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Brains are made up mostly of fat.
- HoIIister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Fried Dace with black beans really isn't that bad. It is just extremely oily and like it said, loaded up with salt.
- doctechnical, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Agreed! What's wrong with Dandelion Greens? I don't know that I'd buy'em canned, seeing as there's plenty in the yard in season, but it's a great way to add something local to the salad.
- mewho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dandelions are making a come back in the US. One can buy dandelion seeds at most organic/heirloom nurseries, but it is a different variety than what grows in the yard. The greens are good in salad, and the heads can be used to make wine. http://www.localharvest.org/store/item.jsp?id=4709 http://www.seedsofknowledge.com/dandelion.html
- ssmith2k3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Idk about when served in cans, but dandelion greens are legit. You see them occasionally on the menu of fancy restaurants.
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What about canned long pork?
Oh I'm so getting dugg down. - Error601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yum: http://darachweb.com/food/images/haggisSirlion.jpg
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Pork brain tacos are actually good cooked fresh from a good mexican restaurant
- break99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2uncalled for IMHO.
But funny. Feel free to joke about me now. - cdharrison, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm sure you meant to say MRE... (Meals Ready to Eat)
- muypicante, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2CJD is the human variant of Mad Cow Disease, y'all. And it crosses species.
- lcmatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Nothing wrong with Spotted Dick and custard its a great English desert.
- master_of_fm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2more than likely you are allergic to the pollen, not the greens themselves
- terranaut, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Never, EVER eat the Brain of any animal.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease anybody? - MadEnvoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The e-mail type is bad for digestion too.
- codyg1985, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"With hurricane season almost upon us, it’s time to start stocking up on bottled water, extra batteries and canned food. "
Hurricane season started almost two months ago. - Flump5000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2i remember i found an ancient can in my basement one time labeled "fish balls". it looked like it was from the fifties and had a picture of a family eating on the can. i never opened it.
- cdharrison, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Even used kitty litter?
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2...and I thought I was going to say it first.
http://digg.com/health/Hot_Dog_Chili_Sauce_Linked_To_Botulism - whoaohh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Castleberry's Chili Sauce.
- MrSidnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't know..eating dandelions isn't that weird. Not sure about canned though, I bet they are better fresh. Like lettuce.
Also, even though I've never tried them, Fiddleheads are apparently pretty decent. - ARandomGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Fried Dace is really easy to find. In Chicago's Chinatown, about a fourth of the stores has some and it's really delicious.
- MrSidnet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Never mind, Nepawoods already mentioned Steve, Don't Eat It!
- h4mx0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Holy *****, Fried Dace is on the list. We use to stock up so much on that stuff. Unfortunately, I've always hated it lol.
