- OwdenBowden, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2I have one friend who is 6' 7, 200lbs of pure steal and has a fear of Midgets (he thinks they will just freek out and try to bite his neck) and I have another friend that fears clowns ( he says they are evil and you should not be fooled by them). All-in-all it is really funny being with them when ever there is a midget or clown around. It is worth the price of admission.
- runtheplacered, on 01/11/2008, -0/+2To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad. -Jack Handy

- Revolution2012, on 01/11/2008, -0/+3This list is something truely worthy of my digg! Awesome stuff! Over the past few years, I have developed spheksophobia - a fear of wasps, due to the area in which I live being infested with wasps every summer. I often get stung just going out of the back door. I have been planning to build a robotic, radio controlled raid spraying robot for a while now (I just don't have the expertise).
Another wierd thing I have is that whenever I touch a screw thread, I can't help but imagine it being dragged across my teeth or fingernails. This feeling lasts for an hour or so, and the thought of it is making me cringe right now.
What happens to people who have a fear of eating?- axis, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Maybe you just have common sense and don't want to get stung? I bet most people have this "phobia" too, I know I do.
Not everything has to have a name to it, *****. Why does everything have to be classified. I fear stupid people, what is that phobia called? Or maybe people who aren't good at math or people with two arms.- senatorpjt, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1It's not common sense. The best way to not get stung is to not freak out, but to slowly move away. I can't help it. I start flailing around the second I see a wasp.
- Schneckehaus, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1Whoa, you get that thing from screws too?
Weird.
I t doesn't make me weird about my teeth though, but I get nervous when all sorts of things run up along my fingertips, to the point of making me want to go curl into a ball and hide.
I also dread anything sharp running along my fingertips, even if they are only gently touching it and not hurting it. Oddly enough, it has something to do with the angle of an object, the idea of a straight stab in doesnt bother me, but a crooked one or angled cut...
My pulse is quickening just from writing about this. - jonshipman, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1You do not have spheksophobia. If you can rationally plan to go and kill them you do not have a phobia of them. If I hear a wasp I get a metallic taste in my mouth and the color rushes from my face. My palms are sweating just writing this.

- collective, on 01/11/2008, -1/+2luckily it doesn't exist. Take the description from the article: "Abnormal fear of gravity — the closest connection between the world we see around us and the inner-most workings of the universe." That sentence is absolutely and totally meaningless. Gravity is a concept that we can learn, phobias are something followed us through our evolution.
- Toshibi, on 01/11/2008, -0/+8Actually, a phobia is largely a learned behavior. We have some phobias which seem to have evolutionary links, like snakes or spiders (good phobias for tree dwelling primates) while others we pick up from our surroundings.

- tesuji05, on 01/11/2008, -3/+3If anyone suffers from any phobias or anxiety disorders, by the way, please feel free to message me as I can offer guidance and advice.
I would have thought they'd have have Agoraphobia, the fear of having panic attacks. Which I have, though I would contend that there is nothing strange about fearing panic attacks because I can't even describe how much it sucks to have one.
I would contend, however, that Agoraphobia is the big daddy of all of those phobias, because if you have it your brain tries to associate things with the panic attacks, and then avoids them at all costs, developing a phobia which has to be overcome.
Through agoraphobia, I've developed a fear of large open spaces, being in a classroom (but only for the first 25 minutes, because that's how long the panic attack lasted when I had one during class :P) a slight social phobia and of course the classic fear of flying, all of which I had to work very hard indeed to overcome.- DeadElephant, on 01/11/2008, -0/+1S'all in your head.

The Knights were a dedicated order of Catholic Monks who had battled for Christianity and were known for their willingness to give their lives for their cause. They were arrested on false charges in a scheme devised by the King of France to gain access to their vast wealth. Over the next 5 years, the Knights were tortured and their Grand Master was burned at the stake in 1311.
While these origins of the Friday the 13th legend may be speculative, it’s widely believed to be the first reference to the day as an unlucky day.
Both the number thirteen and Friday have been considered unlucky:

The fear of thought or thinking, or the idea that the thoughts one’s having are bad or can cause them to go insane.
Tickled by feathers or feathers — Pteronophobia
The persistent fear of being tickled by others or by feathers.
Ugliness — Cacophobia
An uncommon fear of ugliness.
Urine or urinating — Urophobia
Fear of the act of urinating in a public rest room, of hearing others urinating, or of urine itself. It’s often linked with social phobias.
Ventriloquist’s dummy — Automatonophobia
Fear of ventriloquist’s dummies, animatronic creatures, or wax statues. For some odd reason, this phobia seems well justified.

Witches and Witchcraft — Wiccaphobia
An abnormal and persistent fear of witches and witchcraft.
Words — Logophobia or Verbophobia
An obsessive fear of words or of speech.
Words, long — Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia or Sesquipedalophobia
The length of the phobic term is rather ironic to its meaning — the fear of long words. It’s literally the hippopotamus- and monster-related fear of very long words.
Work — Ergophobia or Ponophobia
While many may joke about this, it’s a bonified phobia — rejection of the work environment, the act of performing duties or having to be part of a team going towards a common goal. Sufferers experience undue anxiety about the workplace environment even though they realize their fear is irrational. Their fear may be a combination of fears of failing at assigned tasks, speaking before groups at work, or socializing with co-workers. - TehProphet, on 01/11/2008, -3/+1I know a girl that has a fear of bubble baths...

- schwab002, on 01/11/2008, -0/+14my old roommate has sister who has a legitimate fear of fruit. it's pretty hilarious until you actually meet her and she has trouble going into grocery stores because of the produce isle. her sister used to torture her (like any good sibling!) and stack piles of fruit in front of the door to her room to trap her in or out. I really didn't believe her and asked a series of questions about it like:
is she afraid of tomatoes which is thought of as a vegetable but is actually a fruit - yes
any idea on how the phobia formed: no
grapes? oranges? apples? melons? peaches? berries? basically fruit i could think of: yes
fruit juices: no
avocado: no
I still had trouble believing her until she actually came and visited and my roommate demonstrated by tossing an orange her way. Anyways I'm still pretty very torn about whether it's funny or not...- m4csrgh3yk3v, on 01/11/2008, -1/+7fruitcake?
