- wannaBdug, on 04/14/2009, -0/+32These soldiers should get all the help they need.
- daveyWSS, on 04/14/2009, -0/+23I got to say.
When I saw that man who had lost both of is arms at 18 due to the electrical accident eat the grape, I really tripped out.
Just the sight of seeing a bionic arm feed a human being and it look almost natural is amazing. - Jsmuli2, on 04/14/2009, -0/+8Bionic Soldiers. We are in the lead!
TAKE THAT CHINA!!! - aquatrini, on 04/14/2009, -0/+7That video keeps buffering for me, so here's the youtube version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rloSSqiUCM - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+6I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.
- beeng, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5We have the technology...
- Gloogle, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5I think that in a few years they will have an arm better than the one that they used to have. I hope this technology develops to the point where the arm is covered with real skin and nerves.
- lifenoodles, on 04/14/2009, -0/+5"You're so right Scott. Because, think about what makes us separate from every other animal species. We have an opposable thumb. That is, in fact, what makes us human"
I didn't realize raccoons were humans too. - STdude, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4These are really good things created for the wounded, but like what JKount says it can never be the same, I hope they use stem cells in the future for regrowing the limbs that would really make a difference..
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4You've been dying to use that, haven't you?
- inigomntoya, on 04/14/2009, -0/+4No, war is a four star general, you dip *****!
- MasterCPO117, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4I for one, welcome our new....
- frequentFlyer, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh
nih nih nih nih nih nih
(Steve Austin, 6 million dollar man bionic sounds) - MichelleCelio, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Dean Kamen - not just Segways. I've been following the progress of the arm for a few years now - it is truly amazing.
- shutaro, on 04/14/2009, -2/+5You give war four stars? ... I don't get it...
- inigomntoya, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3I really think that they should also look at this from a disability stand point. Most life insurance policies will pay out hundreds of thousands if someone looses their thumb and index finger. If they are able to continue to use their thumb and index finger (albeit via robotics) then they might not be considered disabled any longer and their insurance company won't have to pay out the money from their policy.
This is definitely something that insurance companies should start pouring money into. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4If it can give handjobs, then it is fully functional
- chicagojack, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Hope some of our unfiortunatly injured troops can have access to these sooner than later
- feelmypimphand, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4I wonder if it makes 'alone time' feel like someone else is assisting
- inigomntoya, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4How about if I just stop you right there...
- EllimistX, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Getting closer to the Luke hand... Don't lie, you know you've always wanted one.
- JKount, on 04/14/2009, -4/+7It's great what technology can do for these wounded soldiers, it's to bad that it'll never be what they used to have.
**** war - FastForward108, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3Wow. Way to twist the knife, dick.
Lots of people who've never been to war would benefit from this too. - iritegood, on 04/14/2009, -1/+4It's quite sad that certain things don't improve for such a long time. Who would think that we could improve our computer technology so much in just over a decade, but our prosthetic arms have stayed the same since WWII.
- buddyfarr, on 04/14/2009, -0/+3@cawpin - blackinthemiddle didn't say that we should not pursue it. He is just stating that a lot of soldiers might not get to see the reality of this device because of price. Hopefully this will come to fruition for all.
- KingBabi, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Great TED talk dealing with just that concept (prosthetic/bionic replacements overcoming their organic predecessors in functionality):
http://www.ted.com/talks/juan_enriquez_shares_mind ... - rawg, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2He almost chokes up at 7:30 when he said, "it felt so good to move 'my arm' again" -- I choked up a little too. Great story. I hope they are able to get that arm to everyone who wants and needs one.
- CoD4, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3Viral for Bionic Commando?
- KingBabi, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2Buster sure needs the help.
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2I caught that as well. However, I believe (could be wrong) that we're the only ones with "fully" opposable thumbs. Not that they made that distinction.
- alecks, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2We gave them Internet
- cawpin, on 04/14/2009, -1/+3Yeah, you're right. We shouldn't pursue any new treatments because they're too expensive and prices always stay the same, forever.
- inigomntoya, on 04/14/2009, -0/+2It is truly amazing that some day people will once again have full use of their lost limbs.
But, what happens when they punch someone in the face with a solid titanium fist?
And thus it begins... - shadowspawn, on 04/14/2009, -4/+5What about getting a bionic penis to go with the balls of steel our troops have?
- blackinthmiddle, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man.
- buddyfarr, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1drrrrrop and give me twenty scum bucket!!!
- Suzilla, on 04/14/2009, -1/+2We already have carroted arteries. Lettuce leave it at that.
- calebian, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1i literally got chills watching the arm do all those things, not to mention the advanced legs. i felt like i was watching a futuristic movie. crazy awesome
- Larssonk22, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I was amazed at the robotic arm, but I was blown away (no pun intended) by the arm that could be controlled by thought!
These guys should get noble prizes. Fantastic work! - Skibadoweebop, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Here here!
- unknownpoltroon, on 04/14/2009, -1/+2"She touched my prosthetic. "You have that. Doesn't it make you eight times as careful not to risk this one?" She touched my meat arm. "That's the way I feel. You have that to contend with; I have this--and I would never told you if you hadn't been hurt, too."
I didn't say left arm more versatile than right--she was correct; don't want to trade in right arm. Need it to pat girls if naught else."
It might be fully functional, but there are some things it just cant replace. - lostinseganet, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6R5bm6qx2E
The sense of touch is already being discovered. No need to put in your shoes. These people should talk. - mrkmrk, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Without war, a lot of great things wouldn't have happened. In and of itself, it's not a bad thing--it's just that people get hurt in the process, which is indeed a bad thing.
- blacklilyninja, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1controlled by thought!
at least they aren't using decorative swords - Felop, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1backinthmiddle, your statement is very short-sited.
With that thinking, Henry Ford would never have come up with a way to produce vehicles "for the common man". Prototypes are expensive until innovation and mass-production take hold.
Please have a bit of optimism for things like these. - latino1001, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Deka is the new Skynet......
- inactive, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1That's why I always encourage people to join the army and fight for "freedom". If you die in war then you'll be a hero and if you don't and lose body parts then you'll be a cyborg, come on how cool is that right? America has got your back.
- FXNGLAS, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1Dugg for a good breakthrough for those that served our country (and those that suffered a loss in other ways)
- whoreable, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1JAX WINS!
- windowpane, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1I wish I could digd you up 100x
