- shakin, on 12/03/2007, -1/+10This list sounds completely bogus to me. Here's all you need to know about vinegar: put it on french fries and then sprinkle salt on the fries. This is what heaven tastes like (should you ever decide to eat heaven).
- weiwuwei, on 12/03/2007, -1/+8Never thought of putting vinegar on a sunburn before. It might make you smell like a salad, but it's worth a try!
- Bukowsky, on 12/03/2007, -3/+10I am a firm believer of using Apple Cider Vinegar for acid reflux.... Tastes like complete ass, but it works better than any medication I've ever tried.
- slashbot, on 12/03/2007, -4/+10I have a hard time believing that throwing more acid into the situation helps.
- inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+6vinegar on sunburn=PAIN
vinegar is like 2.6 on the ph scale very acidic. - Berkana, on 12/03/2007, -3/+9Quoted from the article:
"A daily drink of one tablespoon of vinegar and one of honey mixed with water will help to ward off a cold."
I call ***** on this one. Vinegar + honey sounds like nothing more than a cheap attempt to re-create lemonade with the wrong ingredients.
Colds are caused by pathogens. Nothing in vinegar nor honey nor water, either alone nor in combination, fights cold viruses.
Honey will kill germs when undiluted because it is so hygroscopic that it will dehydrate germs to death by osmosis. Vinegar is too acidic for most pathogenic bacteria to survive. The water, if distilled, will kill germs by osmosis, bursting their cell walls. However, in combination, these effects are negated by each other and diluted, and consuming a shot of that stuff certainly won't make your blood too hygroscopic for germs (or you'd be dead too), nor too acidic for germs (or again, you'd be dead as well). - slashbot, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5Don't do it. It hurts like hell and accomplishes nothing.
- squeezer, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5Not to mention that your stomach is more acidic than vinegar is is (Hydrochloric acid >>> Acetic acid) and all this will do is add a bit of a weak acid and sugar to a pH buffered stomach.
- Snyz, on 12/03/2007, -1/+6Acid reflux is actually caused from a lack of acid, all antacids do is deplete the stomach of acid causing the stomach to release massive amounts to make up for it.
- pcp777, on 12/03/2007, -0/+5Bukowsky is absolutely right. A shot of vinegar will cure heartburn and acid reflux. It's painful going down, for like the first 10 seconds, then you'll find your heartburn/reflux is gone. I've used balsamic vinegar for this.
- kmattso, on 12/03/2007, -1/+5The first thing I thought of was douche...and I don't know why.
- TheKrillr, on 12/03/2007, -0/+4Yes it is. From Wikipedia's entry on Vinegar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar#pH_Value):
"The pH of vinegar is typically in the range of 2 to 3.5, depending on the concentration of acetic acid. Commercially available vinegar usually has a pH of about 2.4"
And from the Wikipedia entry for pH (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PH):
"Aqueous solutions at 25°C with a pH less than seven are considered acidic, while those with a pH greater than seven are considered basic (alkaline)." - NailToTheX, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4Is it just me or do these 'health benefits' sound rather painful/sadistic?
- mehss, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3It helps get rid of warts, just put some apple cider vinegar on a cotton swab and put a bandaid over it, do that for 2 weeks and they fall off.
- FriskDown, on 12/03/2007, -2/+5A glass of vinegar every day will drastically reduce your chances of getting an STD.
- scout29c, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4"when swabbed on a cervix will turn cancerous cells white"
And how, pray tell, does one do that to oneself. There was no visual aid to show how this would be done. Perhaps it involves using the bottle in applying it. - Aviatrixt, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3Someone suggested that honey + vinegar concoction not for a cold, but for morning sickness--all I can say is, it did indeed end my morning sickness for the day...on my knees in front of the toilet.
- Otto, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3If by "ignored" you mean "extensively studied", then yes. There's dozens of scientific studies involving curcumin, and many studies are still ongoing.
Don't be a wacky conspiracy nut, please. - whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+3*whoosh*
- inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+3It WORKS for kidney stones. Take it from someone who has had them twice. Also, if you hit the local health food store,
pick up a bottle of cranberry "capsules". Couple of those a day, with a 16 oz glass of water will help keep them at bay.
And, if you've NEVER had kidney stones, let me give you a piece of advice a nurse gave me one time. (the smartass LOL)...
"that's as close as any male will come to experiencing labor pains".
The first one I had was in 86, after a night of tossing back a "few" beers. Around 3am, this sharp pain in my lower back
hit me. Needless to say....a couple hours later, several shots of morphine in the ER, it passed, and I damn near filled up
one of those plastic pee bottles! You NEVER want to have one of those little buggers. - CraigJ, on 12/03/2007, -1/+4"A daily drink of one tablespoon of vinegar and one of honey mixed with water will help to ward off a cold." Don't know about the other 4, but this is complete crap.
- sjdillard, on 12/03/2007, -2/+4I'm allergic to vinegar. buried because I'm bitter about it.
- Berkana, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2This is not true; you can make vinegar out of dry wine which has had all of its sugar content fermented into ethanol. Obviously, the vinegar can't be fermented straight from sugar by bacteria if there isn't any sugar left in a dry wine.
See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar - CatsAreGods, on 12/03/2007, -0/+26. Great defense against Slitheen.
- Berkana, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3Vinegar. Hmm. I know some folks who use olive oil on themselves as some sort of broadly applicable remedy—olive oil for dry skin, olive oil to remove make-up, olive oil to condition hair, olive oil to sooth inflammation (which apparently does work). Maybe if they just combined the two into a vinaigrette, it would become a panacea. We can then just marinade ourselves in the super dressing for all our ailments.
(Reminds me of the use of Windex in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".) - KingBunny, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2I love apple cider vinegar. I've been having a cap full every day since before I knew it was healthy. (cap, not cup) Might as well continue, eh?
(Although it burns... apparently you should mix it with juice or something.)
According to Wikipedia, it has a number of health benefits, even for diabetes.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinegar - inactive, on 12/03/2007, -1/+3I do shots once in a while - for health. Also, don't forget, if you have the hiccups - a shot of vinegar mixed with some regular sugar cures it immediately.
- EdgarVerona, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2I, for one, am in support of this.
If the human race ever has to resort to cannibalism for survival, there will be people already properly seasoned and ready for consumption. - Berkana, on 12/03/2007, -2/+4A glass of vinegar every day will rot your teeth and rapidly leach minerals out of your bones, thereby drastically reduce your chances of getting any sex to begin with. I guess that's one way of reducing your chance of getting an STD.
- diggdat, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2I have also heard that drinking pickle juice does the job... I have not tried either myself.
- joot2112, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Vinegar can also help lower blood sugar in type 2 diabetes: http://researchmag.asu.edu/stories/vinegar.html
- joot2112, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2I'll show you how to eat heaven... [sorry -- couldn't resist ]
- inactive, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2Vinegar is created by the fermentation of alcohol by bacteria.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetobacter - mlwarrior, on 12/03/2007, -0/+2You guys are really missing the most important part of vinegar production. It's basically fermentation in the presence of Oxygen.
- nastajus, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1I was hoping for more practical uses. These are more like my bottom 5.
- spyd3rweb, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Only if Kari gets naked.
- DrDigg, on 12/04/2007, -0/+1Then explain it too me. I'm a GI doctor, but always willing to learn something new.
- funkspiel, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Where is Lord Douchebag when we need him?
- healthplus, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1I like Braggs better than the Heinz brand. Has helped with colds, increased energy
Interesting health see more ... http://www.healthplusnow.com/ - Berkana, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1Quoted from the article:
"Vinegar, when swabbed on a cervix will turn cancerous cells white. I don't know that this will ever come in handy ... but hey, it's good conversation starter if you find yourself chatting with an OBGYN."
Not quite a douche.
So, I imagine a conversation with the doctor might go something like this:
"Doctor Paul, I've got a bizzare question--bear with me: I marinated my slot with vinegar, and white junk appeared. . ." - niknar1900, on 12/03/2007, -1/+2A whole bottle of Vinegar also cures AIDS!
- cl0r0x70, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1I'm about as pale as you can get and used to get sunburns frequently as a child. A cold wash cloth soaked in water and vinegar applied to the sunburn is a miracle. It ruled. . . but the smell was so bad that it's almost not worth it. Use sunscreen so you don't get burnt in the first place!
- tankdilla, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1If you give your children a teaspoon of vinegar with breakfast, they're guaranteed to return home safely. Two teaspoons and they will bring home good grades.
- Otto, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1No, in point of fact, the article is correct on that score. Bacteria eat the ethanol and produce acetic acid, aka vinegar. Naturally occurring vinegar occurs from wine or other already fermented products. This is technically fermentation of ethanol, it's just not using yeast to do it. No bacteria produces acetic acid directly from sugars. The intermediate step to ethanol is required if you're doing it the natural way.
- MikeDawg, on 12/03/2007, -1/+2I've *heard* (unconfirmed of course), that vinegar can help prevent kidney stones, if you drink some amount of it daily.
Also, along the lines of a female smearing it on her cervix, it can be used to spot genital warts in males and females.
While you're at the website, be sure to check out another great article: http://www.greendaily.com/2007/11/11/reusable-mens ... - slashbot, on 12/03/2007, -3/+4Sounds like a bunch of urban myths.
Time for the myth busters! - TheKrillr, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1...Sexy.
- slashbot, on 12/03/2007, -1/+2Was it the throwing acid onto the sunburn or acidic stomach that sounded painful to you? :P
- lenlol, on 12/03/2007, -0/+1would this work for treeman?
