Eat all you want.
Get your fat ass off of the couch/chair and go outside - bridow, on 02/02/2008, -0/+37"Conversely, avoid red, yellow, and orange in your dining areas. Studies find they encourage eating. "
Thank you Ronald McDonald - Brad324, on 02/02/2008, -0/+30I'll go with plan B) Masturbate more often, and more ferociously
- stilesja, on 02/02/2008, -2/+32I don't know... I've been getting my "fourth meal" at taco bell for the past year and its given me a serious case of lard ass...
- BlurredWeasel, on 02/02/2008, -1/+26Lucky for me Twinkies are not very good at running.
- halfemptyfilms, on 02/02/2008, -2/+23Wanna lose weight? Catch everything you eat with your bare hands.
- vinblackham, on 02/02/2008, -6/+25I think one of the simplest, yet misunderstood, concept is to spread out your meals to 5 -6 throughout the day (#7). Even eating slightly-higher caloric foods spread out that far can do much less damage that stuffing your face 3 times a day.
- dyranios2, on 02/02/2008, -7/+23Nice I'll forward this to my fat sister!
- Rhendal, on 02/02/2008, -4/+19One of the best ways to lose weight is the least used: eating healthy and exercising. It's just work to do and people hate that about it because they want the easy way out and there isn't one. I lost 40 lbs within 5 months last year just eating right and exercising, and I'm going for another 30 this year (already down 5). You just gotta find something you enjoy doing, like I take taijutsu and play a lot of DDR and the pounds are melting off. Also, an off day during the week is necessary, because sometimes pizza is just too good to pass up.
- megapeg, on 02/02/2008, -0/+15#20 is ***** - if you wait until your stomach is grumbling, you're far more likely to overeat to compensate. If you (wisely) eat 5-7 times a day, you're not likely to get painfully hungry at all.
- krnldmp, on 02/02/2008, -0/+13Fat people are afraid to be hungry.
- Speaking, on 02/02/2008, -0/+12That's better advice than most of this article. If you follow the RD list you will obsess about food. Constantly keeping track of every calorie will make you OCD about eating. I gained 40 pounds during my first year of marriage, and lost most of it in 3 weeks on tim ferris slow carb diet (don't buy the book, just read his blog posting on it).
Then I quit doing slow carb and started weight training with just my body weight, a pull-up bar, a swiss ball, and 10-15 pound dumbbells. I workout 10-30 Minutes everyday (most of the time 10), and am VERY careful not to over do it. I make sure I never spend enough time weight lifting that it's even a slight hassle (I just make SURE I do some every other day). I don't care how much progress I make, as long as there is SOME constant progress.
Now I eat whatever I want (tons of butter, steak, chicken, shrimp, rice, pasta) with only a few lazy rules.
1. I make all food from scratch, whether its mac and cheese or steak or cupcakes.
2. I eat dinner AFTER working out.
3. The only bread I eat on a regular basis (unless it's homemade) is cinnamon raisin Ezekiel bread (For breakfast, usually with tons of cream cheese, Ezekiel bread is so dense it's more of a "bagel replacement").
4. If I crave something, I eat it. I don't make a habit of donuts, but if I crave one I get a 3 pack.
5. Don't drink "sweet" calories. Milk is cool. Some people like splenda
6. Don't ever let yourself get to the point where you "think" about food, eat some f'in cashews, a big chunk of colby, raisins, or eat your meal early, gorge yourself.
I am at the point that I don't even have to think about it, if I am at someone's house and they offer me a big fat cookie, I eat 3 and it doesn't matter, because all the protein in that cookie is going to-wards making me stronger (in the long run). I am not "cut" but I am in VERY good shape and look pretty thin. And I feel freaking awesome. And I am the laziest ass I know. - harriman714, on 02/02/2008, -4/+16the most important thing is to exercise!
- velvethead, on 02/02/2008, -0/+12Eliminate corn syrup, sometimes called High Fructose Syrup, from your diet as much as possible. I did and lost 60 pounds. Mostly this means eliminating sodas, and most anything you'd buy at a convenience store. You will be amazed if you look at the ingredients of almost everything in a modern store, there will be a form of corn syrup. There are many teas available with lots of caffeine that have no corn syrup, or switch to coffee if you drink sodas for the boost. And if you don't drink a soda for a month then have one, you will be amazed at how awful it tastes anyway.
Do some research on the history of corn syrup and obesity rates, its an almost one to one correlation. As easy it would be to see a almost conspiratorial ring in all of this, the fact of the matter is that's simply business greed that got this stuff in everything. And a disregard by businesses for the health consequences of the products that they peddle. - sexualpredator, on 02/02/2008, -3/+15buried for over-*****-complicating everything.

- shawnanigans, on 02/02/2008, -0/+10They forgot 51. Take a dump.
- skidooer, on 02/02/2008, -0/+9It's funny. In the topics about ethanol, all the comments are about how we should be keeping that corn for food. Under all the health topics, everyone says that we shouldn't be eating that corn.
- tensvb, on 02/02/2008, -0/+8Burn more calories than you eat. That's the easiest and the only way to lose weight.
- Commonwealth, on 02/02/2008, -0/+8I've been having stomach problems for years, so I've been trying to eat better to see if it helps. Well, after for eating no junk food for half a year and going to the gym 3 times a week it turns out I'm just lactose intolerant, and had been drinking too much milk. Somehow I went my whole life without being diagnosed lactose intolerant even though it was killing my stomach and I had gone to many doctors and taken expensive tests.
- tehstyles, on 02/02/2008, -1/+8Decent tips, but a few criticisms:
"Eat cereal for breakfast five days a week."
No, cereal is anything but a health food. Sure, its better than donuts, but its a highly extruded/refined carb, and wreaks havoc in your insulin levels. Even cheerios about bad for you compared to oats, yams, and sweet potatoes.
"Sniff a banana, an apple, or a peppermint when you feel hungry"
Why not just eat? The reason why people are fat is not because they don't starve themselves, its because of the wrong food choices and lack of exercise.
"Stock your refrigerator with low-fat yogurt"
Why low fat? People don't store fat because they eat fat. Fat usually is burned quickly. However, in the presence of high insulin levels (caused by carbs), fat is stored.
"you should eat plenty of whole grain breads and brown rice"
For sure you need carbs. But remember, fat storage is caused by insulin levels, which are caused by carbs. I'm not advocating an extremist low-carb diet like atkins, where your body is supposed to go into a state of ketosis. But keep in mind the reason why fat is stored and not burned. Carbs are best consumed post workout. - WhiteFlye, on 02/03/2008, -1/+7I think one of the simplest, yet misunderstood, weight loss concepts is to stop eating so much and try a little exercise.
- Kushak, on 02/02/2008, -1/+7amphetamines work every time
- Birdoftruth, on 02/02/2008, -1/+7changing your drinking habits is a big deal. Just by going off of Lemonade to Water shaved off 10 pounds for me (and I wasn't even fat either, was 220 lbs 6'3). Nutrition is more important than exercise and you need to learn to curb your gluttony because a person who eats well and does a little bit in the gym is getting a lot more done than a person who does not eat well and does more in the gym. Just eat natural stuff: Fruit, vegetables, wheat grain, nuts, fish. Else wards go on a Mediterranean diet.

- fracktica, on 02/02/2008, -0/+5After graduating college, I gained about 30 pounds because I was in a chair all day working on web apps. I received a gym membership as a gift and didn't go much for the first 6 months.. I think it was mainly due to me not wanting to look like a complete idiot with all of the complicated machinery. I ended up just using the elliptical machines most of the time since they were really low impact and easy to figure out... but one day, all of them were full and I wanted to get out of there... so I sucked it up and went on the treadmill, even though I felt it was the last place I should be ("I am not a runner"). That night, I finished a mile on a treadmill... and I can remember being really, really proud of myself.. only one mile!
Fast forward two years later, and I finished my first marathon (26.2 miles).
If you don't have knee and back issues, you owe it to yourself to put your predispositions aside and try running. Your weight will melt away slowly, you will sleep better, you will be betting looking, and you will find yourself having more fun with life. It's a difficult journey - running that first 5k or more.. but it's easy to overcome. A famous coach once said, "Paralyze resistance with persistence." That is seriously all it takes... and a great iPod playlist :) - chall85, on 02/02/2008, -0/+5Yeah HFCS is bad, but it's not the only factor. I'd like to see a graph of Computer Use / Obesity Rates in the last 30 years.
- Kables, on 02/02/2008, -1/+6Losing weight is easy, if you have a shred of will power. Burn more calories than you take in.
Becoming fit is harder, and most people striving to be fit do it wrong. Cardio won't do it; resistance training is far better for your overall fitness than is running a few miles, as you get a cardiovascular, metabolic, and muscular benefit from weights. And one shouldn't just eat less. You should cut refined carbohydrates (high fructose corn syrup is the devil), and take in mostly vegetables and proteins and some high-fiber carbs. Don't be afraid of fat; fat doesn't make it you fat unless you take in so much that your calories are through the room. Fat satiates and your body needs it.
All easier said than done, of course . . . - ShadowBlitz, on 02/02/2008, -0/+5Now lift some REAL weights and get real results.
Just kidding man, good job. - dansvan, on 02/02/2008, -0/+5Move more, eat less.
- Nicklogan, on 02/02/2008, -1/+6Anybody else notice there are actually 58 tips, and most of them deal with putting the fork down or making your meals smaller.... kind of obvious.
- dondara, on 02/02/2008, -2/+6Eat less, eat whole foods not processed crap and get some exercise. It's so simple just not easy. Most Americans who are overweight are because of the crappy diet that is shoved at us. Fast food commercials, FDA corruption and just plain laziness all contribute to the problem. But if you just eliminate high fructose corn syrup from your diet, you will lose weight.
There may one day be a pill that will control your weight but for now not being a fat ass is a matter of self-discipline. - Uranium118, on 02/02/2008, -0/+4McDonald's, 5 times a week.
- andycr512, on 02/02/2008, -0/+4"But if you just eliminate high fructose corn syrup from your diet, you will lose weight."
Agreed. Try either eliminating soda for the most part and drinking something else instead (unsweetened or even sweetened tea is good, according to studies is better for you than simply water alone, and you can get rid of 80 calories a day simply by drinking 4-5 cups of green tea a day - more at http://www.adagio.com/info/health_benefits.html and related sites), or drinking sodas made with sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup (Jones or homemade come to mind). - AsherDanger, on 02/02/2008, -3/+7Don't Eat
- reddfox321, on 02/03/2008, -0/+4Life will be shorter if you're a fat slob. Increased chances of diabetes, heart disease, bed sores, sleep apnea, arthritis... enjoy!

Wow, the place is plastered with those colors. - inactive, on 02/02/2008, -0/+4Make your own food and you'll never be fat.
This includes bread, juice, everything. Just making a bread gave me killer forearms. Yeah, I'm Popeye.
It doesn't matter that you eat "healthy food" if your healthy food is entirely made with bleached and boiled ingredients and tons of preservatives. All these chemicals slow your metabolism down. Plus the food you eat isn't nutritious so you're always hungry.
Carbs are more fattening than fat. Eat fish. - tHePeOPle, on 02/03/2008, -0/+4Excellent idea. My current regime of rigorous masturbation will now be upgraded to ferocious masturbation. Thank you.
- sandiegojoe, on 02/02/2008, -0/+4I exercise quite a bit, and have always hoped I could still eat whatever I want as long as I just exercised harder and/or more often. Unfortunately, I learned that what you eat (specifically the amount of calories) has a far greater effect on weight than the exercise does. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13821677/). Not only, that - but I smoke alot of weed and tend to snack ALOT in the evenings. For me it's 100X harder to change my diet than it is to exercise.
- RadiatedAnt, on 02/02/2008, -2/+5strict diet during the weekdays (and by strict I mean eat healthy and not your mars bar) and I'm free on weekends to eat anything as much as i want. Lost 55 pounds and have never got em back from 205 down to 150 :D oh and yeah the excersize is a must or you will be porker.
- jleq, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3I second that... down 45 lbs in 6 months thanks to dietary changes and Adderall.
- thadjudkins, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3You may or may not be joking but I read a study not too long ago that pointed to this. They showed that despite the oft quoted anecdotal evidence that serving sizes are now huge (you know, the old comparisons of McD fries and Coke bottles) caloric intake hasn't actually changed much since WWII. They found 2 main (though lots of little things like WHAT we eat) things that they blamed for our sudden weight gain: reduction in daily walking distances and reduction in smoking rates. Basically, they think that high smoking rates prevented this weight problem for kicking in 50 years ago. I thought it was very interesting anyway. It's also still a big improvement in health, someone carrying 40-50 pounds of fat will still outlive a heavy smoker 9 times out of 10, but we're going to have to figure something out.
My favorite (humorous, but still apt) take on the issue is from Penn and Teller's *****. They were talking about the human urge to sex and eating but not wanting to deal with VD/unwanted children and obeisity and asked, did we fix the VD/unwanted children thing by telling people to show self control? No, we invented condoms and pills to fix the problem. Basically, they don't see obesity going away through self control alone any more realistically, they're waiting for a pill. Humorous, but still a good tell at human nature. - andycr512, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3Yeah, but for the sake of cleanliness please wash your hands after you're done kissing them.
- Speaking, on 02/02/2008, -1/+4Eat MEAT, preferably steak, grass fed, grown locally. Find a co-op in your area, meet a farmer, meet the cow (if you want). Buy 1/8th to 1/4th cow, throw it in a small deep freeze. Eat the best damn steak you will ever have, and lose weight, and save ASS load's of money. Eat veggies when you can.
- abadonn, on 02/02/2008, -1/+4That article is mostly crap. I lost 30 pounds, and all I did was cut out cheap carbs (white bread, rice) and ate more meat and vegetables. All you have to do that is eat less and join a fun sport that will keep you motivated.
- IllBeBack, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3You are incorrect. Exercise > Diet.
- IllBeBack, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3The key is to realize that a grumbling stomach does not indicate hunger. That feeling and sound are simply the stomach emptying its contents and nothing else.
- kadesoto, on 02/02/2008, -1/+4Self-control is a limited resource, so if you're trying any of these things, you'd better balance them out with something fun that won't pack on the pounds.
- AmusedToDeath, on 02/03/2008, -1/+4You don't know how right you are. I'm fat, trying to lose weight, and learning to not eat what I really want is one of the hardest things I've done.
