- danandre, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Meh, videos are only available in WMP and RealPlayer ... ugh!
- tehrob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Yeah and the deafult is RealPlayer lol
- Y0tsuya, on 10/11/2007, -11/+25People get fat when they take in more energy than they burn. I've said the same thing before on digg, only to be buried by doughboys. See http://www.digg.com/health/Scientist_find_the_Obesity_gene
Maybe now the fatties can stop blaming metabolism among other things for their obesity. Stop stuffing your pie holes! And stop burying people for saying this. Remember, science is backing us up. Now get off digg and go exercise or something. - bubba9999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Do you know what "inaccurate" means?
- MacintoshSauce, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Maybe the food industry should take out High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) out of everything and use pure cane sugar (raw). HFCS will kill you - no joke. This is why the USA and Canada has an obesity problem and very alarming Type 2 diabetes problem.
People should start using natural sweeteners like Stevia. Don't use NutraSweet (Aspartame) or Splenda (Sucralose) either - all those artificial sweeteners are BAD for you. Do a Google search on them... - Alucardbsm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12"Tastes like semen. No wait, let me have some more. Mmmm.. fresh and fruity"
- 5150photo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8You know those guys signed for that thinking they were gonna sit in in room eating and getting BJ's all Day
- anesthesia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I watched all of these shows when they were originally aired... another great production from the bbc
I recommend watching 'Does sugar make kids hyperactive' - hilarious - tidu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Poster might as well change the title to Seminal Fluid Taste Test, because it's the only thing on that page that is being clicked on.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Can someone just watch all the videos then post the answers. Thx.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8ONE reason. It's not "why the USA and Canada has an obesity problem." It's one contributing factor among hundreds.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/11/2007, -0/+434 videos, that's great... I'd rather read the transcripts, though.
- joot2112, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I agree. Video format for this sort of simple information is annoying. To save others the irritation, here's my summary of the "Does sugar make kids hyperactive?":
Two kids' parents think they get hyper because of sugar. BBC rigs two parties to test the kids. At one party they are given sugary crap, at the other party healthy non-sugary snacks like celery and cheese. BBC tricks the parents and tells them that Party Day 1 is healthy stuff but in fact they are given sugary crap, and tells the parents that Party Day 2 is sugar day but they are given healthy stuff. However, at Party 1 when the kids get sugary crap, they are sung lullaby-like songs and lay on the floor, and at Party 2 when they get healthy stuff, they dance to rock music, a clown riles them up, and the kids have a food fight. The parents mistakenly attribute their kids' behavior to the food, and BBC concludes that hyperactivity due to sugar is a crock.
Now, as a researcher, my opinion is that this study design is poor and the conclusions are misleading. If they truly wished to test whether sugar affected behavior, they would have controlled for the environment and staged the same level of stimulation at both parties. Or they could have given half the children at each party sugary vs. healthy food. Maybe children who have had sugar and then become EVEN CRAZIER; maybe children who have had healthy snacks and are sung lullabies are EVEN MORE CALM. They essentially deliberately threw in a confound, and the conclusions drawn are therefore bunk! - ARMADILDO, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4yeah
hfcs is in everything
im not to crazy about having our entire food supply corn based
so
putting all out food supply "eggs" in one basket
still producing suvs and hummers as we pass peak oil and global warming effects intensify
and having a foreign policy responsible for creating more terrorists than past 10 administrations combined
its like we are strying to commit national suicide - slezzzter, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Exactly, and metabolism controls how much energy your body burns. Even while exercising.
Destroying myths apparently does not destroy ignorance. - pjdk28, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Title should say BBC, good stuff. love the girl that needs to try the semen one more time...
- ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6What, your personal tests didn't work out to your satisfaction?
- aagee, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You can play mostly all formats without the accompanying retarded players (and pushy ads) (on Firefox too); just get yourself one of the "good" codec packs. I particularly like K-Lite codec pack (get it at www.free-codecs.com http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm ).
- DooDahMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Interesting videos, but bad science. The sample groups on the videos I watched were too small to have any effect. They mostly involved feeding vegetables to people who never ate anything green. The results don't really apply to those of us on a normal diet.
- Evi1d33d, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Girls don't fart, buried as inaccurate.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yeah the sample groups were really small, and it would be really bad science if that were the only evidence, but I think that the videos were just done to demonstrate the results of other, more formal scientific studies. For instance, in the caffeine video, the narrator cited other studies from the past decade that suggested caffeine doesn't really give people a mental edge, and that after the withdrawal period, people can do just as well without it.
- Tanath, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's also a matter of what you eat. Eating lots of trans fats will make you fatter no matter what.
- moltar2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3You can also use Stevia instead of sugar. It is more expensive, but it tastes great, natural source, no side effects and no calories! You can add it to tea/coffee, and cook with it, pretty much everything you can do with regular sugar.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia - ColonelJessup, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I like to "destory" popular myths too............
- TheHim, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Very true, i'm surprised digg users can't agree with this obvious law.
- tinybites, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It was a little too scientific for my tastes. :D
- WestervilleSlim, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I thought this would be interesting, but it unfortunately was total crap. These are scientific studies??
The sugar hyperactivity video was, as joot2112 pointed out, thrown off by the two different parties (hyper versus calm). What was the reason for that?
In the Detox video, they let the girls in the detox group know what the other girls were having (pasta, chocolate) in the control group, then failed to take into account the emotional and mental aspects of that. The detox group girls were totally depressed by the fact that the control group were getting better tasting food. Do you think this would have an effect on their detox process??? Of course it would.
In all the videos I looked at, it seemed like the BBC made a decision about what they were going to prove, and then set about proving it, not worrying about creating accurate tests along the way. This could have been really interesting, but it was a total waste for me. Too bad! - whovian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, HFCS is *not* in "everything." Check the labels, or eat lesser-processed foods. The only time I eat HFCS is during an occassional ice cream splurge, and even still there are brands (Breyer's, for one; or just make your own) that are made from sugar. I can taste the difference b/t sugar and HFCS.
I'm not crazy about grain-feed animals either. I'm not too crazy paying for organic meat since I am a chickenitarian.
We only commit suicide dietarily to the extent that we consumers tolerate the crap the food industry produces. Make it painful for them and spend your money elsewhere a.k.a. vote with your pocketbook. - LibertyBill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Disappointed by the 'metabolism' question - wasn't scientific at all. They presumed that since a heavy person required more resting calories that this meant they had a higher metabolism - not true. They should investigate how the Thyroid which controls your metabolism works and recognize what happens when your thyroid hormones are insufficient and your metabolism is slow... FWIW - endocrinologists see lots of people with slow metabolisms - and they aren't skinny...
- bobish, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i guess he thinks WMPlayer and Real have bad aim
*shrug* - dagooh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I love the phrase "It's not your metabolism, if you're fat, you eat too much" I'm forwarding this to all this girls in the office NOW.
- TailGunner, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Seconded. They could give us the verdict for each video in one or two sentences instead of a several-minute video. :/
Any worse, and you'd receive transcripts for each clip by mail order. And they wouldn't Fex-Ex it. - power80, on 05/11/2008, -0/+0http://detox.weebly.com/ lemon detox

http://detoxx.vox.com/ lemon detox - caramelMangoMan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Hi guys I work at a company called Gold Group, and we are currently running a campaign for our client Lipton, meant to call attention to the healthy benefits of tea! The site for the campaign is located at http://www.fightindooritis.com, it features some fun videos and messages you can send to friends, as well as a rebate for up to $15 savings on Lipton teas! We hope you find the site interesting and are able to share it with your friends and readers.
- indestructibles, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dugg for debunking the detox diet! Interesting to see no change in the test group vs. the control group!
- oesj, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1why? most articles don't shove the source in the title. gives it some cred i suppose, but still
- cc81, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Then do a google search for the moonlanding and find out that it was fake! There exists tons of pages about sweeteners that are just spewing out garbage. Do a pubmed search if you want real facts and stop believing "OMGD THE TRYE PAGE ABOUT SWEETENERS!! THEY KILL YIOU!!!!!!.com"
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1You're joking. Girls' farts smell worse than anything in the universe. AND they sometimes make a squeaky noise.
- drgmdp, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0uhmmm nope, codec packs only lead to codec conflicts.... don't be a lazy ass
- moltar2, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2get Real Alternative
- hopefuel, on 10/22/2008, -7/+2Women. Taste does not mean swallow.
I bet the researchers switched test tubes anyway...... - oesj, on 10/11/2007, -15/+8"Maybe now the fatties can stop blaming metabolism among other things for their obesity"
1. why do you care so much? seriously?
2. very few people believe that the metabolism is to blame, just that it makes some people naturally more likely to gain weight.
3. at the end of the day for 99.999% of people exercise and diet is the only way.
also. i'm overweight. i don't care. it really pisses me off when people assume i'm in some way ignorant about how and why!! im fat cause i like to eat and i dont want to lose weigh cause im lazy - that's my choice! - mdnash, on 10/11/2007, -11/+3@ oesj
you have some vanilla frosting under your lip - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1Buried as inaccurate for using only WMPlayer and Real.
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -21/+2Why would anyone prefer .MOV?
