Cancerous man-boobs: big problem - nahsrocketeer75, on 11/06/2009, -1/+42My wife's uncle has it right now ... and not long to live. Sucks.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 11/06/2009, -0/+28This story highlights how important it is for men to regularly check our bodies, as part of a routine - just as women do. Early diagnosis is key to improving the chances of recovery so going to the doctor straightaway if there's a problem is crucial. I guess a lot of guys are embarrassed or don't want to create a fuss... but it's better to be safe than sorry.
- jerryjamesstone, on 11/06/2009, -3/+26I am sorry. :-(
- Reiv, on 11/07/2009, -0/+19They don't let men run in any UK charity fun runs for breast cancer, something which has annoyed me for years
- MacBookForMe, on 11/06/2009, -8/+21...and we still rather spend $zillions for silly weapons than for our own health...
- johnnyrotten, on 11/07/2009, -0/+12I have a friend who got it and his wife got it. Both survived and are doing great.
- atlasdugged, on 11/06/2009, -1/+13I really appreciate it when people go public with potentially embarrasing diseases. It helps remove the stigma so that others may avoid the same fate. Farrah Fawcett did that with Anal cancer and Val Lucier is doing it with male breast cancer. These people are courageous on many levels.
- JoeNaguib, on 11/07/2009, -0/+10Yet another article underlining the importance of a public health care option.
For a lot of people in America it's not a matter of feeling embarrassed or not taking the time, it's a financial matter. A visit to the doctor just so he could potentially tell you the small lump you have is nothing more than a cyst isn't worth a hefty bill. Early detection rates for are significantly higher in countries with a public health care option - the evidence is irrefutable. - nouman1989, on 11/06/2009, -2/+10only 1910 ?
- WraTH017, on 11/07/2009, -0/+7Cuz everybody loves boobs.
- supermanly, on 11/07/2009, -2/+9Only 2000 people lose weight each year? WOW!!!
- AlienMushroom, on 11/07/2009, -0/+5Treatments denied, as it's a pre-existing condition!
- alpharaptor, on 11/07/2009, -1/+5i would get checked for breast cancer, but technicians on that mobile mammography bus are sexist, guys can get breast cancer too!
- copypastry, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Male breast cancer is worse in some respects, most notably because there is not as much breast tissue for it to tool around in, meaning it has a greater chance of spreading into the thoracic cavity.
- seltaeb4, on 11/07/2009, -0/+4Somebody needs to start collecting yogurt lids for the cause.
- DoodleMaster, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4Wicked trade-off....
Men: Less tissue less chance for defecting mammary cells, but harder to remove by surgical means.
Women: More cell tissue greater risk of defecting cancerous cells, easy to identify and tissue to remove. - genepooldesign, on 11/07/2009, -1/+4The problem with headlines these days: The title states that 1910 men are diagnosed with breast cancer, and directly below that it says that "The American Cancer Society estimates that 1,910 men will be diagnosed..." What is wrong with this picture?
- JoeNaguib, on 11/08/2009, -1/+3Breast Cancer is our version of breast cancer.
- JoeNaguib, on 11/08/2009, -0/+2God bless America!
- Meursault, on 11/07/2009, -2/+4The mastectomy actually improves the man's body image, so it's not all bad.
- HurricaneDC, on 11/07/2009, -0/+2That's why I'm participating in Movember to raise awareness for prostate cancer. It's our version of breast cancer.
- bencho, on 11/07/2009, -1/+2Don't let cancer steal 2nd Base!!!..... oh wait....

FROM THE ONION: Scientist have ascertained that the various causes of breast and ovarian cancer are also the main causes of increasing PST (penis, scrotum, testicle) cancer. Doctors expect a 1,000,000 fold increase this year alone in PST cancer and sadly, the only medical treatment is the complete removal of the penis, scrotum and testicles.
In other news, Congress today has passed laws requiring the immediate withdrawal of all American military forces from all international countries and the closing of all international American military bases. As well, all civilian (CIA) military support to countries will immediately cease.
Congress also acted to immediately stop all international monetary aid, other than emergency humanitarian aid. Said a knowledgeable Congressional spokesperson, "We intend to take the savings to find a damn cure for cancer!"
</sarcasm> - pintocat, on 11/07/2009, -0/+1Why does every single cancer fundraiser and awareness campaign on the planet only ever care about breast cancer?
- Goodfellow, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1I am glad that this has made front page. And that "Celebs" are getting the word out. The more guys know the better.
My Father had this about 22 years ago. Not much was known about it then. He traveled a lot between hospitals that specialize in cancer. Since not many places at the time had not had any documents on this form of cancer we had moved to Kingston where they have one of the best cancer wards and Queens University was there to document its findings. I was really young at the time and watched by father battle with this cancer courageously for 3 years before succumbing to it.
I am glad that we live in Canada because there is no way that we alone would have been able to afford the treatments he needed right until the end. And it makes me really sad to see that United States is in such a heated debate over Universal Health Care when so many people and families in need can benefit. - aadautech, on 11/12/2009, -0/+1For the last 30 years, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has prepared estimates of the global cancer burden. Beginning in 1975 with broad estimates of numbers of new cases for 12 common types of cancer in different areas of the world. Overall, there were 10.9 million new cases, 6.7 million deaths, and 24.6 million persons alive with cancer (within three years of diagnosis). The most commonly diagnosed cancers are lung (1.35 million), breast (1.15 million), and colorectal (1 million); the most common causes of cancer death are lung cancer (1.18 million deaths), stomach cancer (700,000 deaths), and liver cancer (598,000 deaths). The most prevalent cancer in the world is breast cancer (4.4 million survivors up to 5 years following diagnosis).

- Wareznuke, on 11/08/2009, -1/+2Time for us guys to ease up on the Cheetos.
- coolian12, on 11/08/2009, -0/+1wait 'til it happens to you buddy
- solunas, on 11/08/2009, -1/+2Nearly 75% of all Cancer deaths can be avoided with proper vitamin D levels – which is a blood serum level of 40-60 ng/ml.40-60.
We can reduce 50k cases a year for breast cancer and about the same for colon cancer (in US and Canada)
And proper levels of Vitamin D will stop the cancer BEFORE it forms.
The data is all here:
http://www.grassrootshealth.net/
Talk with your doctor or join they're test group. Know your vitamin D level is. It can save your life. Don't wait for a commercial about Vitamin D - it can't be patented. - peestandingup, on 11/07/2009, -3/+3I think thats kinda low considering the staggering obese/overweight rate we have here & the man-boobs that go along with it.
- bnmind, on 11/09/2009, -0/+0My question is why isn't this represented anywhere? All we hear about is women and breast cancer, never men.
- teriabel, on 11/07/2009, -0/+0I think the issue here is how fast it's increasing annually.
- illfaver, on 11/07/2009, -5/+2You know what I meant. LIGHT-NING IS NO LAUGHING MATTER!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a friend who almost died from lightning. You insensitive *****.

- badenglishihave, on 11/07/2009, -7/+2We spend zillions to protect our lives from ending prematurely by being vulnerable to attack... but what you say does make one think.
