- strom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33"4. Feel no pain!
German researchers have discovered that coughing during an injection can lessen the pain of the needle stick."
By snapping the needle off into your arm. - Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27"17. Breathe underwater!
If you're dying to retrieve that quarter from the bottom of the pool, take several short breaths first—essentially, hyperventilate."
No, NO, NO! This is extremely dangerous - when you do this, you can confuse your body's breathing reflex and suppress the urge to breathe. Yes, you can stay down longer, but you may pass out suddenly and drown without ever feeling it. - distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23reported as inaccurate because Jessica Simpson is not sexy.
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21About Trick #3 (Overcome your most primal urge!), doesn't that lead to the 2nd most primal urge (sexual desire)? Great, now you have a public erection. To solve that, simply pee in your pants.
- mankyd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22For #5, clearing you stuffed nose, there's an even better trick, but it takes more work: get your heart pumping. Doing jumping jacks or running around the block will clear you nose in no time.
One of the major contributors to a stuffy nose is dilated blood vessels. By getting blood pumping to your extremities, it clears out your nasal cavities. The extremely effective decongestant, Afrin (Oxymetazoline hydrochloride) works exactly this way - it constricts blood vessels.
Admittedly, Afrin works much better in that it lasts longer (up to 12 hours.) Doing exercise will only work as long as you can keep your pulse up. However, when I'm really stuffed up, I'll often do some quick laps before I use a nose spray, just to make sure I can get a full dose. Afrin is also addictive if used for prolonged periods; exercise, well, there's nothing wrong with that. - MuddyPitch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Yeah, but hey, worth reading again. I forgot about the whole 'put your hand on somethig stable' thing for when you've got the dizzies from drinking too much. Could've used that the other night!
- doctornkul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Poor distance vision is rarely caused by genetics"
What? I'm nearsighted. My parents are nearsighted. My grandparents are nearsighted, and I know many people who, like their parents have glasses. According to Wikipedia on nearsightedness:
"Genetic Factors — A widely held theory of the cause of myopia is that it is mainly hereditary[citation needed]. Measures of the heritability of myopia have yielded figures as high as 89%, and recent research has identified genes that may be responsible: defective versions of the PAX6 gene seem to be associated with myopia in twin studies"
It's things like these that detract from the entire value of an article. I guess I could believe that pressing your tongue against your mouth might alleviate a stuffed nose, but when an article's source can't even get the most accepted cause of myopia, I don't know what to believe... - snuffulupagus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Disapointed when I found out these tips were only for men...

232 days ago to be more exact. - macron1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6yeah nah that is awful advice, i know someone who died doing that. He was a big fan of the "hyperventilation" method for holding your breath, encouraged me to do it a couple of times (works too, you can hold your breath for like 5+ mins first time), but then he died in swimming pool.
- saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My cure for the bedspins was always to hang one foot off the side of the bed, all the way to where it rested flat on the floor.
- lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6And again, this is becoming funny now...

- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+412. Make your heart stand still!
Trying to quell first-date jitters? Blow on your thumb. The vagus nerve, which governs heart rate, can be controlled through breathing,... It'll get your heart rate back to normal.
It does work. We were playing around at work yesterday with one of the medics and he was showing us on the EKG how it does works. But it can also make you pass out. So be careful when trying. - PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"This tricks your brain into thinking it has more oxygen."
Yeah but in reality all of your muscles are failing because they're out of oxygen, regardless of what your brain thinks. - MoeDrippins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't get overly worried about Afrin's "addictiveness"; what they mean by that is NOT that your body (or mind) "craves" it, it's that its effectiveness wears off if you use it a lot, so you need more and more to do the job. Lay off (and suffer) for a week or so and it's fine again, given a normal usage pattern. Don't go crazy with the stuff.
- therernospoons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For #8, try Vitamin E--the pure stuff, no sissy lotions!
- zakool21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I tried it too, but on my sister. Maybe I need to try it on another guy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5hah good point

http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Hack_your_Body - hudef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I read this list on catch.com (now defunct) about 5 years ago. I made the mistake of signing up for the free health newsletter. Been getting spam from them ever since.
- mankyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hereisandy, I suppose that's a risk. Luckily, if you just want to clear it out for a moment of relief, we're talking less than five minutes of activity. There's no real benefit, in this case, to a full blown workout.
@MoeDrippins, the actual term for the addiction is Rhinitis Medicamentosa. You are correct, it is not a mental craving but it is a dependency - your nose will become stuff if you stop using the medication. Taking time off, like you suggest, is definately a good idea.
One thing I've also noticed: by using this trick before you using something like Afrin, I usually need less - only one spray per nostril as opposed to two or three. - jshooter1377, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dang, very useful stuff right there.
pretty sweet...great find. - dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Girls and women have longer legs than men so you may have to increase the height a bit.
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess thats why sometimes its a reflex to try and grab something but mostly we are just thinking about holding are selves with something not about tricking the body.
- av4rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well in that case, let's repost every Digg article every day so it's "not *****" for anyone who happened to miss the day before! What a great plan!
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 #5 I've also heard of wearing cold wet socks, it's supposed to force your body to send more blood to your feet and make your nose less stuffed up.
I guess by that logic an erection would do the same thing.
Hey #3 and #5 could be both solved with an erection! - goodkidyo, on 04/14/2008, -0/+1you could always just block their email.
- phronko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, this is interesting, but I wouldn't take it as a scientific source. In particular, I'm not sure if the "memory is consolidated during sleep" hypothesis is well-accepted.
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a very interesting read, I like it.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 For the list they need a #19 Improve Your Memory.
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No. 6.
I'll believe this because mother always said to lay on your left side to help you fart. - lcarsdeveloper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@darushman8, I'm venting my frustration. It's not my fault you submitted an article that has been posted so many times before.
