Rule of thumb from our systems administrator:
When your system is all screwed up to the point of a pending BSOD, you'r better off doing a fresh reinstall (preferably with another type of OS).
By analogy:
system -> relationship
BSOD -> breakup

The first step is to get some space, calm down and decide to listen to each other though you know you won't like what you hear. The approach in this article is best tried with a counselor in the room. After all, doesn't the average human being have difficulty listening when they become tense, feel hurt and believe they are suddenly in a position that feels as if they have no control?

Dealing with conflict is a skill that can be learned, just like programming. People think it should come naturally, but that is not usually the case and it causes breakups all the time.
