- RealmDown, on 10/27/2008, -0/+42Brief, concise, and just the right amount of wit. Nice article. I'm going to research the one on carrots though. I didn't know that one. WAY cool if it is true.
- Tychee, on 10/27/2008, -1/+255. Carrots: honestly good for the eyes or old wives' tale?
Lutein is the best for eyes--and it's in leafy, green vegetables. The carrot rumor was started during the Second World War. The Nazis realized that the British were getting a lot of lucky shots on their aircraft, and so the British started the rumor that their pilots were being given carrots to improve their eyesight. Which was hogwash. What they really did was discover radar.
Interesting story, but what a rumor. Until now I actually believed that carrots are really good for the eyes. - AmyVernon, on 10/27/2008, -0/+1992 percent of dollar bills had trace amounts of cocaine? That seems insane. Everyone knows you use a $20 to snort coke.
- Autodidaddict, on 10/28/2008, -0/+17#13: How much coke do you suggest when you say we should all do less coke?
- RealmDown, on 10/27/2008, -2/+13I was going to read the article, but your comment confirmed it is just another political rant, so I am moving on.

10. My bum knees mean I can't jog. What are your recommended alternatives? And please don't say elliptical machine. Boredom's worse than joint pain.
Elliptical machine. But if you want something more athletic, cycling or swimming are both high-energy and low-impact. - ParanoydAndroid, on 10/28/2008, -1/+4I've heard around 80%, but either way don't forget that sorting mechanisms aren't just in ATMs. Most of the transfer (and we're talking incredibly tiny amounts here) take place in the counting machines in the banks at the end of the day - not in the ATM; and dollar bills definitely go through those.
- Scrappy1850, on 10/28/2008, -0/+3i worked in the food industry for 10 years. gloves are LESS sanitary unless you change gloves for every food item you touch. when have you ever seen anybody wash their hands with the gloves on? those gloves are GROSS!
- shaelen, on 10/28/2008, -1/+4I gave up watching Oprah after I saw one of her shows for the first time.
Then I tried to give her another chance.. about 5 more times.
I now know I should have given up for good, the first time. - xan18, on 10/28/2008, -0/+3The carrot story was very interesting.
- shaelen, on 10/28/2008, -0/+3One of the biggest reasons I eat at Subway is that the "sandwich artists" wear plastic gloves, and I've always seen them wash their hands before putting on the gloves. No, they don't take your money with the gloves on.. At least, not in any of my experiences.
- NoozeHound, on 10/28/2008, -0/+3Them old wives don't mess about when it comes to rumours. Think how many generations of boys never went swimming after eating?
- SmilinJoe, on 10/28/2008, -0/+2Cool! Learn something new everyday! :)
- PizzaCat, on 10/28/2008, -0/+2he doesnt mention people handling money then your food, ie sushi take away places where they are touching the fish with their hands and then take your money with that plastic glove on, then go back to the fish.

- FLarsen, on 10/28/2008, -0/+1As far as I know, it shouldn't be too bad to chew on the leaves (it's apparently much like caffeine in effects). Just don't start snorting or injecting the extracted cocaine.
Better yet: Don't do it. Use something safer. (Yes, I'm quite sure you were being sarcastic, I just decided to answer anyway.) - jster89, on 10/28/2008, -1/+1But without references is equally as likely to be wrong as the old wives' tale.
- AnthonyFTMFW, on 10/28/2008, -0/+0Whoa whoa...don't DEFEND the bailout...at least not here...
