- granolajoe, on 11/20/2008, -1/+21Guys, proceed with caution. Doing all of these in one sequence may turn you into a girl.
- Jabrams2, on 11/20/2008, -0/+16I like the relax for 10 minutes one. I just try to make it 5 hours in a given day instead. extra protection, you know?
- Winkleman, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10I hate slideshows.
- AFelsinger, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9yep, very nice of Bukowsky to sub the print version
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8Womansday? on Digg
Methinks something fishy is about.
No pun intended. - ClevelandBrown, on 11/21/2008, -0/+612. Masturbate.
- eternalfuture, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Does that include using cellphone while driving? That's what the first picture (and the Wear your seat belt stuff) seems to be suggesting...
- RobotBuddha, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5What is it with women's magazines/sites and health information that boils down to either anecdotal evidence or an appeal to authority. Who would even consider making a change to their lives based on a soundbite from a single person, with no citations provided. Just off the top of my head, the red wine one is incorrect as to the mechanism of action. You'd have to drink something like 30 bottles a day to get a high enough dose of resveratrol to provide that level of health benefit in humans. Assuming it even can do the same trick for us as it seems to for rodents.
- Bukowsky, on 11/20/2008, -6/+10FYI - this is the print version. Here's a link to the main article, but it's a slideshow...

- bannonto, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3What about SEX? I am sure daily, or at least weekly sex can add years to anyone's life.
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Amazing, thanks for posting such a wonderful tips. Thumbs up for you.
- MarkusDee, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3How about don't talk on the phone while driving!
- Eqxy, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4I got about halfway through this and realized that I'm drinking everclear and eating potato chips...
- slaws24, on 11/21/2008, -0/+311 Life-Saving Health Habits? We Can All Follow???????
LIFE SAVING? are you nuts
death preventing. maybe
life saving is heart transplant.
not a fruit salad. - Kumaku, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4Nah dude. I used to be the same way, then I started to take a stand on what I thought was right. Turns out all the reading I did helped in solving stuff out.
If you are anything like I was, you didn't even talk to people at school and thought to yourself, "Maybe if I did such and such..." Maybe's don't get you anything, it's doing stuff that gets you places.
Yeah, it's easy to say but it's true. Just be friendly and the nice people will be friendly back.
And obviously you have alot to say, you've commented more than dugg stories.
Keep it real and hit me up on gtalk or send me an email.
kumaku@gmail.com - TheHim, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3That actually was a reasonable list, you know... stuff that actually has effects (sleep, activity). I expected Digg's american community to pick an list of dietary supplements, sex and what else sells nowadays.
- fuxxx, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2No way! I guess you mustn't realise how small a serve is.
A serve of fruit is basically half a glass of fruit juice, or a small apple.
A serve of vegetables is one cup of raw vegetables, or half a cup of cooked vegetables.
Most people get enough fruit, or if they don't it's very easy to replace sweets and snacks with fruit. Replacing some meat with vegetables is more unpalatable to most people, but if they think that it's worth decades off their life and major health problems well whatevs. - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2The FDA actually recommends that any woman of child-bearing age NOT eat fish due to concerns over rising mercury levels and the impacts on unborn children (mercury accumulates in the body over time, so just avoiding it while pregnant will do nothing). Just so you know.
- fuxxx, on 11/21/2008, -1/+3What are they on about with 5 serves of fruit and 3 of vegetables? I know that's what people might want - but in fact 2 serves of fruit is enough (which is basically a large glass of mixed fruit juice), and you need 5 serves of vegetables. Well that's what Australian Government propaganda tells me anyway (http://www.gofor2and5.com.au/)
Reducing the extent of your vegetable intake to a 'colourful salad' and eating excessive amounts of tropical fruit is probably a great improvement to many americans' diets, but it's not very nutritionally sound.
Telling people to drink red wine directly is also simplistic and damaging, especially to the kind of target market Woman's Day has. The recommendation is that if you drink, drink red wine, and reduce the amount you drink to one glass per day at the most. No credible medical source has recommended that people actually start drinking, that'd be utter nonsense. If you're after more antioxidants, a cup of green tea each day is far less damaging source.
I give them credibility for mentioning the social aspect, smoking, relaxation and wearing a seat belt - far too many of these lists focus heavily on diet while ignoring the elephants in the room in terms of preventable disease and death.
They do neglect to mention that driving a car is the riskiest activity we engage in on a day to day basis, and that catching public transport effectively kills two birds with one stone here - it both encourages more physical activity in terms of walking, and it takes you out of the most dangerous aspect of our lives. - cJw314, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2/drama
You can't live with relaxing for 10 minutes a day? -.- - modgirl17, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I'd rather text.
- scalded, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2It's an article for a magazine called Woman's Day. They wouldn't alienate their entire subscriber base.
- Eqxy, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I'm planning to never die... so far it's working out great.
- tyrannon, on 11/21/2008, -2/+3I don't get how looking at 11 girls in a row will save my life? Oh ***** there's text there....
- pbeternal99, on 11/21/2008, -2/+3I feel like if I was eating that much fruits and vegetables I'd be eating nothing but fruits and vegetables all day.
- craiginct, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Oh and use your cell phone - A LOT
- specialK16, on 11/21/2008, -2/+3"A growing body of research suggests that loneliness or social isolation can negatively affect your hormones, heart and immune system"
Now this is a serious question. What if you just find extremely difficult to handle social situations and to meet new people. When I was in high school I thought that this would eventually solve itself, but in fact it is now more difficult. I'm pretty sure I might have AvPD because of the signs, it is just that I really have no to talk about it. I read somewhere that people with strong relationships (family, friends, etc) live longer (yup). Meh, guess I'll die alone and young :(
(inb4 "go outside" or anything of that sort) - Sheaan, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1*****
- Spokanimal, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I notice that there are no guys in the pix....guess they don't want us to live.
- StigNordas, on 11/20/2008, -3/+4The wine one I can live with. The others? Not so much.
- burnnbuild, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1You can also visit http://burnfatnbuildmuscle.blogspot.com
- numb401, on 11/21/2008, -2/+2The united states also has the largest deficit of common sense in the western world.
- Kumaku, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1Is this a ploy to get diggers to admit they are women at heart? Aww the hell with it, I tend to think like a woman sometimes and these women magazines are nice to me and call me a winner without the added coyness that you find in mens magazines.
- priceyboyo, on 11/21/2008, -0/+0It's all pretty standard stuff really... though i reckon they should put laugh at least 5 minutes a day
- Truson, on 11/24/2008, -0/+0Don't forget the soy Nuts!!
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -4/+0Amazing!
- Sabre24q7, on 11/21/2008, -5/+0You forgot to add "Get all of your 21 essential minerals and 11 vitamins per day," and exercise perhaps too?
