- AugustZephyr, on 10/11/2007, -7/+117Procrastination is like masturbation. It feels good, until you realized you just ***** yourself.
- ktchpmn, on 10/11/2007, -10/+86the article is quite useless. i know about procrastination, i'm quite good at it. what i need is a cure.
- fowleryo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+47yeah, i read it thinking, wow, this is accurate.. but it fell short at the end telling me that i basically need to get years and years of psychiatric help. thanks interweb.
- benijuana, on 10/11/2007, -8/+39that was the best description of myself I've ever read. damn good article.
- mehan, on 10/11/2007, -11/+39wow, 10 comments, and all of them are the same lame joke. ^^
- pixelmixer, on 10/11/2007, -6/+27According to the article it seems all procrastination is bad and gets in the way of productivity, a way to "avoid success in life".
Apparently they haven't heard of structured procrastination: http://www.structuredprocrastination.com/
The link is an essay on how to use procrastination to your advantage, and you're probably already doing it. - goeatsmsht, on 10/11/2007, -17/+33When I procrastinate it's entirely because of the internet. umm.. kind of like what I'm doing right now actually..
I dugg this article so I could read it tomorrow... - PabloMac, on 10/11/2007, -3/+18Are you really and English major?
- ohmyblazes, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Don't worry, he'll fix it later.
- Nocturnal, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14I agree and stated the same thing below but apparently we're being dugg down because we'd like to figure out how to break the cycle. Douchebaggery if I must say.
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Yeah, I can't be bothered spending years of my life fixing my procrastination either.
Wait. - victorycig, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Years of therapy, my ass! I'm one of those people that avoids drugs (pharmaceuticals) at all costs, but if they made a drug that helped me get past my procrastination habits, I would buy it.
- logik3x, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12Ok, so what now? I know I have a problem, how do I fix it?
- phirestyle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Good catch dude...
I didn't notice that... - filmbandit, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7maybe it's because 30 people made the same lame joke
- RussellDovey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5See, no-one could be bothered making a different joke, because... aaah, forget it.
- Spartan078, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I read this and realized my rent was due yesterday
- g0nzilla, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I actually felt queasy reading this article. I am a classic avoider with a fear of failure. I would rather people think I am laid back than an under-performer. Not only that but as a child my parents were fair but also very dominating. As an example if I was carrying out a task say hoovering and I was not doing it to their satisfaction instead of showing me how to do it properly I would be told off and the task would be completed for me.
Other characteristics include being overly-optimistic although I am in fine health and I tend to take on responsibilities as opposed to shirking them, as in group design work etc (I am an Urban Designer). I have also never had any serious problems surrounding relationships and I am not a heavy drinker.
I am glad I read this.
p.s I am not an under-performer, I have won awards for my work. However procrastination has caused me some problems particularly at university. - DatuPuti, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5dugg. i'll read this later
- hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+510 Things To Know About Proscratination:
1) I just made it up. - barryiggins, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3by george, this crazy son of a bitch just might be on to something...
- vspazv, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Procrastination: Hard work pays off in the long run, but laziness always pays off now.
-- despair.com demotivational posters - ElRayQuieres, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Great read, people who dugg you down must not have read it.
- abxy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4This article perfectly describes me and my problems. But what the *****? I wish the author would be just as equally detailed in giving a solution to the problem — I could really use it.
- RobynG7, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3"And there may be more of it in the U.S. than in other countries because we are so nice"
Well, that's a riot. - Pilot85, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1no? ok, I can live with that.
- BevansDesign, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Well then you're not a procrastinator. At least, not as it's defined medically. You're just lazy.
- ElRayQuieres, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3It actually was worth reading through all the puns to get to the bottom of the page I guess.
- maklershed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Even better .. make it a "ten best" or "ten worst" list.
- Ruckgesicht, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I love how I was identifying more and more with what the article said, only for its total real advice being to seek "highly structured cognitive behavioral therapy." Do they not realize that this entails one to overcome their procrastination in seeking treatment for their procrastination?
- burdalane, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Hmmm, I'm a chronic procrastinator. I grew up in a home with a domineering, bad-tempered mother and an indulgent, patient, but paranoid and over-sheltering father. Both parents valued studying more than anything. I studied my way to excellent grades and a super-high GPA because my parents dragged me kicking and screaming to school every day. I think my procrastination is a response to the value they put on studying and working hard. Now I try to shirk responsibility and work as little as possible, except when it's something I really want to do, but those are few and far between.
- libertao, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Those aren't puns.
- oana77, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0My friend was cancer and we were trying to help her . One day I wanted to see her, but thought " Tomorrow I can see her, today she is with his boyfriend. " She died that night ... I could not say " I love you " to her
Oana,
http://benvarim.blogspot.com/ - Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -2/+2Aside from posting spam links, what the hell is comment abuse!? There was nothing abusive about your parent comment, it was just lame.
- ebiz1022, on 03/01/2008, -0/+0It is an epidemic with no cure.
http://theedgyblog.com - beatleman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1After reading this article, it turns out I'm one of the procrastinators that's NOTHING like the types she described. When I say, "I'll feel like doing this later" or "I'll have the energy for this later," like studying for an exam, I do usually do it later (or the day before the test, whichever comes 2nd).
Also, I almost never get colds or illnesses despite (or maybe because of?) my chronic procrastination. Am I alone, or do other people not fit her description at all??
On a side note, I don't think I've ever seen as many comments get dugg down as in this post... Not much of a tolerance for really unoriginal procrastination jokes, apparently... - punx45, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0would it be too much trouble to require the use of the spell check (or run it automatically) before submitting an article?

____________________________________________Air hostess - http://www.sristysaviation.com - dodus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Yeah, I'd have to agree with BevansDesign. Being unmotivated and lazy doesn't fall under the banner of procrastination. At least we procrastinators have an excuse.
- catxors, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I've always heard that Americans avoid criticizing others and try especially hard to be friendly in personal interactions. Is it not true?
- catxors, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I imagine either parenting style tends to encourage procrastination--I procrastinate and my parents were strict and overprotective.
- cusoman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Good article, but it doesn't really get into solving the problem at all.. I have procrastinative (?) tendencies, and would like to help myself in that respect and this article does nothing for me :P
- ThinkBox, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I won
- MagikMsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0File income tax returns late? I file every year at 10pm on 4/15, that's 2 hours early.
I always cash in gift certificates on time, I 've had this Polo on here on my table for 6 months and I think I still have 6 more to use it....
Christmas shopping on Christmas eve? Where are these people shopping? WalMart? Christmas shopping is always on time if you do it on Christmas day, but you say you're getting a head start on next year.
"Procrastination predicts higher levels of consumption of alcohol among those people who drink"? Who has time to drink with all the illegal drug use.
"I work best under pressure." That's not a sign of procrastination...that's just genius.
"Procrastinators actively look for distractions"? WTF, I have 2 computer screens in front of me and a TV, I'm not distracted I'm multi tasking. oooo....they are talking about AAPL on CNBC....BRB
"There's more than one flavor of procrastination." I can't decide what's wrong with is one...i'll come back to it later.
"There are big costs to procrastination." Health problems? Insomnia? Gimmie a break, Ambien is a recreational drug...not something to help you sleep...
"Procrastinators can change their behavior" Yeah, but why would they want to buy your definition of it...life sounds great like that! Maybe tomorrow I'll come back and talk about this more...right after I check my e-mail and flag some items to follow up on later. - Asvetic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wall of Text = I'll never read, later...
- drachemorder, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The very last sentence in the article says something about "highly structured cognitive behavioral therapy" as a cure. Uh, I think I'll pass on that one. That phrase conjures up some pretty vivid mental images of re-education camps.
- mmmmmmmCHIPOTLE, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Procrastinators UNITE.....Tomorrow!
- jack2bip, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This is article is called "10 Things to KNOW about procrastination"...not "10 ways to FIX procrastination" so to answer the question "How do I fix it?" ...well...for starters you can decide yourself, or this article states at the end "highly structured cognitive behavioral therapy" can change procrastinators...so try that. My point is, in order to fix a problem, you have to be aware of it! - and it's affects. So good article on enlightening procrastinators.
